Well I think GAME have already gone and fucked themselves to be honest and they are now in a right mess thanks to poor game selection, poor customer service (mostly some employees are the exception but managers have always been ignorant on the products they sell in my experience) and poor pricing.

There is no reason to shop there anymore unless the price of something is more or less the same everywhere (like a new console) then you may as well get it from GAME and get some points I suppose, hopefully it will collapse and we will start seeing some independents again im not sure there pricing would be much better but they should be able to provide good customer service and perhaps differentiate themselves by stocking more niche games.

It is a pity for those who had a gift card and cannot buy it now i know i would be furious in their place. How can they not refund you for something they were advertising? This has to be illegal imo.

Amazon(uk,de) and Play.com are probably the most reliable places out there for Europe at least and play also ships free in EU which is a big plus for me as i live in Cyprus.

There's many things wrong with this. Here's a couple of my favourites:
-Blanket assertion that when something involving EA happens, it's always the fault of EA, and not, as in this case, the fact that Game doesn't know how to business.
-That because EA do make some decisions that are unpopular, that their products can't be entertaining.
Unfortunately for the gaming industry EA keeps trying to force new rules on people and that's what i disagree with.

If the gaming community were to just tell EA to piss off and sort themselves out by refusing to buy their games for a while they will back down and actually give us what we want.

ME3 is even more stripped down than ME2 was and they think its ok to publish games in this way.

GAME tried to make a deal. they know that ME3 will be a big seller regardless and asked to simply let them sell the game then they will repay EA when the sales roll in like a landslide.
EA in their infinite wisdom have said no to this and therefore have also shot themselves in the foot as alot of people rely on game stores still to get their games.

It will be sad to see Gamestation go. My local is brilliant and the staff clean my discs for free. Game, on the other hand, can suck it for all I care.

I have spent the £5 credit they gave me for screwing me on ME3 and the balance on my points card on Batman: Arkham City. Don't want to lose my money when they go under!

Interesting, yet you have no problem with the following as it's totally logical?

I was only saying to someone just earleir today on xbox live ''Well I dont like game because of the big fat ignorant **** who stares at you like your a big mac when you walk in the shop, so I hope the fucks crash and burn''. P.S. In ireland we have Gamestop aswell so Game can go choke on an EA dick for all I care :D
The whole of GAME should crash and burn because their local manager is ugly, fat and has the gall to actually look at the shop's customers? Hmmm.

Gamestation is basically GAME with staff who actually know about games, and care about the customers. Sadly it'll go under with the rest of the group.

GAME tried to make a deal, yes. EA didn't take it, because obviously the deal wasn't as good as the deal they normally get. That's fine. That isn't EA being jerks, that's EA running a business. EA doesn't need GAME. The stock that would have gone to them will be happily sent on to Amazon, HMV, or a dozen other stores that can actually pay for what they want. EA isn't the bad guy here for not offering charity to a store that is nearly dead.

I don't think they decided not to stock ME3 to spite you to be honest, it's not like it's their decision that a lot of developers think they're bastards.
It's not their decision but it is their fault, for treating developers badly for years, cutting into their profits by pushing pre-owned sales and making demands because they're the biggest game retailers on the high street.

I only buy from GAME because one day I will muster the courage to ask out the girl who works there, who is not only attractive, but is interesting and I get on with quite well... I just always get this feeling I won't be the first guy to ask, and I am probably lumped in with the usual 'desperate nerd' types... (Which I am, I just don't want to be! :p)

I also just had to scan through the thread to see if it was one of the GAME hating threads I had already posted in! Seems that they really don't have good crit right now! Sucks to be them!

Unfortunately if GAME goes there won't be any places to buy new games in my town. I mean, Jesus, they got rid of HMV for another JD sports. Do we really need another one? Are we really that starved of tacky shell suits?

I did exactly that, now my plan is to use that trade-in money to get SSX and then trade that in for straight cash, use it to buy Mass Effect on Amazon.

Good job GAME got their SSX shipment before they burnt the EA bridge, or this plan would've failed too.
If by "burnt the EA bridge" you mean "had no money and asked for stock for free on good faith so that they could stock ME3 and then pay EA back after they'd made sales", sure.[/quote]

Fine, EA burnt the GAME bridge. Whatever the case, a bridge was burnt.

But I did buy SSX, and I'm very happy with it so far :D

Yeah, fuck Game! And fuck all the poor fuckers employed by them,

Seriously!?!

I for one prefer Brick & Mortar stores, one because if you have any issues you can get an instant replacement & two because you have the option of trading in a few old games to contribute to the cost of the new game, because I don't know about anyone else but I cant afford to pay full retail most of the time.

plus the fact that the difference between street price and net price is usually no more than £3-4.

Wow, this thread exploded overnight. It had like 3 replies last time I checked.

I'm in a similar situation. I was going to preorder ME3 using gift cards because, frankly, I don't have the money otherwise. Then they don't stock it.

I'm going to basically sell my gift cards to friends for the exact same value, then use that money to preorder it from somewhere else.
Luckily I was able to do the same thing and I pre-ordered it at Shopto. It's cheaper and you get the N7 DLC with it so it actually worked out better for me.

I know they didn't do it to spite me, I was just very angry at the time and I had to let off some Steam, so I came here. Don't get me wrong, I'm still pissed off and I'm glad that they're probably going to end up bankrupt for the shit they've been doing since they've been a major retailer.

Also it's worth noting that the reason they aren't going to be stocking Mass Effect 3, or any EA titles during March for that matter, is because they're broke, or very close. If you're interested here's an article explaining the situation. http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2012-02-29-ea-pulls-releases-from-game-shelves-until-further-notice

Wait you actually still want to buy ME3?!

*shakes head* I guess it takes all kinds...
Why not? It looks amazing, from what I played I loved the demo, it's backed up by to amazing prequels. Probably my favourite franchise of this generation.

Though let me guess, you're all upset because of the DLC situation, or because it requires Origin? Neither of those I could give a shit about anyway.

Really? I'd say that you're the fool for disliking what will be a fantastic game because it's published by EA.

Can someone tell me why so many people hate this GAME store? I don't actually live in the UK myself but I've heard things about GAME but I'd like to understand the hatred better.

Also my local EB Games isn't much better. I went in to cancel my pre-order of ME 3 (at the time I decided to just get it online, now I'm never getting it) and the cashier person thing had the gall to tell me (now she said it in a very bitchy snotty tone) "well you're just going to pay for it more online" that's all I remember but she was very snotty about my decision to cancel my preorder
There's dozens of reasons. In my opinion though the worst reason it that they charge ridiculous prices for new games in the hope that you'll buy it pre-owned. They make more money that way. Also, with the exception of one of the stores close to me, the staff are stupid lazy pricks that wouldn't give a fuck if you were on fire.

Actually, EA are saving themselves. Game asked for free stock and said that they would have paid them back when a) they're fucking broke b) they advertise pre-owned games over new copies.

Yeh, fuck Game for the shit they do and Fuck most of their employees for being cunts. With the exception of the Broughton Shopping Park store. If anyone from there is reading this then I'm sorry that you're probably going to loose your job.

Ok, there's two scenarios here, one where they are at fault, and one where you're at fault.

scenario 1. You pre-ordered Mass Effect 3 ages ago, and they tell you not that they can't supply it - your outrage is justified, they are in the wrong, you should get a refund and go try pre-ordering it from another store (if possible, might have to be the second or even third batch at most).

scenario 2. You went to pre-order it, like, within the last 4-6 weeks, and they said 'yeah, we won't have it for ages' which you took to mean they'll never have it - your outrage is completely unjustified, early bird gets the worm and you weren't early enough, again, try another store, possible a GAME store because you've got GAME money (it seems), and get in on the second or third batches.

Got my refund back on my debit card, got the extra £5 points and then went to Grainger Games and pre ordered the collectors edition from there. Only reason I'm going in store is because of where I live, only my neighbours and myself have a front door key to the building. Sooooo if I miss it getting delivered they take it back to the post office and I have to wait 24 hours maybe 48 to go pick it up.

They seem to have stopped leaving any small parcels at the store next door....lazy pricks.

I am saddened only by the fact that the GAME store I worked in was run by a great manager and the staff were always friendly and knowledgeable (and we usually had the best sales in the group), but are paying the price of it's head office being bad at business. I have been in other GAME stores and been horrified by the drop in standards.

But yeah the one near me is a rarity I think. I see GAME going down the shitter and I can only lament for the people that worked there and actually cared.
No longer in employ at GAME because of new location difficulties but I will remember my time there fairly positively (Call of Duty launch days can politely go f- themselves).

We seriously tried everything to make up for the deals (we knew they were lousy and had to have pep talks before starting to improve moral and try to just keep the customer happy). We even all came in, dressed in random costumes and it was great how much positive response was given. But yeah other stores around the country have been a real downer, half asleep barely-non teens with a really 'whatever dude' personality.
