Young people have always wanted to emulate musicians with dubious lifestyles. Look at the Rolling Stones, or any number of shitty 1980s metal bands, or even Kurt Cobain.

And for those youths, there was always an older generation claiming that the music and its message was crap.

Ke$a is still godawful, in my opinion. Don't get me wrong.

I did when I was younger (...T_T) but I think its starting to get out of hand just a tad
Not really. We all tend to idealise the past.

Let's see: 1995, you were 15. Number 1 hit of the year was 'Gangsta's Paradise'. A song that seems to glorify gang life. Not exactly the best career choice. Nice Weird Al spoof, though.

Hm. 'Creep' was number three on the list. So maybe you've got a point..

When I clicked on the link it came up as a black screen with an error message. Thank you unreliable internet (or unreliable youtube, whatever). For once I wasn't frustrated when the video didn't play :)

Video got removed. Now I have no idea what the point of this thread was.
Video was not removed I just saw it. And I wish I didn't. That's how pop sounds today? And I thought it couldn't get worse.
"This video contains content from Sony Music Entertainment, who has blocked it in your country on copyright grounds. "

Sorry, 'blocked' then. I really didn't take the time to read the exact message, since it had the same window as all the removed warnings on there.
Where are you? I still can c it and I am in the UK, probably the country where more Youtube content is blocked right after China.

I realized something a while ago - Kesha kinda' looks like a drunk Taylor Swift.

Anyways, her music sucks. I'm surprised people actually "want" to be like her.
She's famous with little talent, who wouldn't want that.

I find it sad that the songs that got me into music were the songs that got people of my father's generation into music, but I have no regrets about it.

Especialy when i see the great new 'artists' who this generation looks up to T_T. But hope isn't lost. To me, modern music isn't the problem. Popular music is the problem. There are good songs, but they get lost in the tidal wave of attention when the star of the hour makes a new song.

OP, Ke$ha is two years younger than you. I don't really think you're in a position to dismiss her as "young people need to get off my lawn". It's a song about douchebags, for douchebags, by douchebags.

A lot of people have super powered Rose tinted glasses. You know who was the most successful artist of the 90's? Maria Carey. There's actually a video on YouTube of Ke$ha singing Karma Police by Radiohead in middle school.

Take it from someone who has nothing better to do than sit and watch 4music all day, Ke$ha is far from the lowest you can get (Still pretty low though).

Is Ke$ha her real name? I don't care about her music and whether it's shit or not, but anyone that does that with their name should be shot.

I'm in a country where that video is blocked for some reason, so I just googled this Kesha person and found the video for her song "Tik Tok" and it is pap. There is little, if anything in this song that is memorable. No real hooks except the beat, whi9ch seems to be all the kids want these days. That and songs about having fun from people who have no idea what fun is nor how to get it. He singing is not really singing. Not really rap. It's too lazy to be either. It's just her sort of bleating like a nanny goat to the rhythm. That's it. The autotuner takes care of the rest. In any case, I couldn't put myself through too much more of it before jamming pencils into my eardrums to make it stop, so I'm off to the emergency room.

Grats for pointing out popular music is crap.

Moving on...
I would like to point out that popularity is in no way indicative of quality: only quality is indicative of quality, regardless of how many people in what people group enjoy said product.

OT: Yes, music careers have tended to completely ruin youth, especially young women. It's a sad trend that's hardly new, it's just that as our culture's morals degrade as a whole, this process sinks even lower.

I have never heard of this girl (I refuse to refer to her as a female vocal artist) before and quite frankly I think my life was better off when I didn't know!

Considering that her fan base is undoubedly teenage girls, I expect that they don't even listen to or perhaps even understand the lyrics. Meanwhile they are loving this song which seems to suggest that men should shut up and just shag her, not really the impression I'm given by most civilised womenfolk of today! Hmm I've just added teenage boys to her fan base as well.

I die a little inside when I see something like this. What happened to musicians who played their own instruments and wrote actual music themselves? I can't stand the sound being distorted by electronic crap. Besides, what sort of a chorus is blah blah blah blah blah? Someone got paid millions for that no doubt.

I'm 22 but my favourite band is the Beatles, closely followed by Bon Jovi and pretty much anything from between the 60's and now (missing out the 90's and the majority of today's crap) Amy MacDonald is a fantastic Scottish vocalist who plays guitar and writes her own songs. She's only 22 and she looks stunning without having to prance around showing her cleavage. Are we so lacking in talent and integrity these days that people such as this Kesha have to be created?

EDIT: Ok so a quick look on Wikipedia reveals that Kesha is a songwriter, she actually writes this crap... well that explains a lot.
