Darkness, then light. Theo speaking angrily, then blackness

Rorschach groaned as he slipped in and out of consciousness

Light again. Someone was pulling at his mask, and he raised a hand weakly.

"No. Leave it." The tugging ceased, and Rorschach nodded and passed out once more

Theodorus didn't hear Wes at first, he was too busy bandaging Rorschach and making sure he could be transported to his clinic.

"What?!" He barked as Wes interrupted him a second time, but then quickly calmed down.

"Take some of the others and carry this good for nothing to my clinic..." He said afterwards, and threw Wes a key as he made a gesture towards Rorschach. "It's just down the block from here, there are some empty beds in one of the rooms on the first floor."

He then got back to stabilizing Ben, he had lost a lot of blood, and his consciousness was fading in and out. He had already stopped the bleeding, but the wound was still open. And without the fingers, he either needed to stitch it shut, or reconstruct them.

He downed a small glass of scotch to calm himself before uttering, "It's going to be that kind of night, huh?..."

He threaded the needle, better safe then sorry, he could always reconstruct them later on...

I felt a thin string going in and out of my fingers. It tugged at the bloody stumps of my fingers as it weaved in and out of my skin.

I blinked my eyes a few times, and noticed a drink at the bar. I reached out with the hand that wasn't being worked on and snagged the beverage. I brought it to my lips, "PFFFFFT." I spit it out all over myself, it wasn't a drink at all. It was Theo's rubbing alcohol. "What are you doing to me Theo?" I asked weakly. Then I was asleep.

Carter continued to lay on the couch. He removed his hand from his head. It was covered in blood. "Since when does alcohol made you bleed from your head?"

He quickly stood up and felt the side of his head. Carter felt a rather large gash on the right side of his head. The blood rushed from Carter's head. The combination of losing blood, still being mildly drunk, and getting into a state of shock all caused Carter to pass out and fall on the floor.

Stuffing the key in his pocket, Wes lifted Rorshach off the table and pulled the unconscious mans arm over his shoulders. He lifted him onto his feet, still holding him up and half-walked, half-carried him out of the bar. He started walking down the street, then abruptly pulled the key out of his pocket. He looked at it for a second, and was disappointed to see that it wasn't a car key. Clinic must be locked, we'll just have to walk there.
It took several minutes to make the walk. Rorshach seemed to fall in and out of consciousness, shuffling his feet for a few seconds at a time before leaning his full weight back against Wes for another few seconds. When Wes finally unlocked Theodorus' clinic, he was about ready to pass out himself. He laid Rorshach on an empty bed, then slumped down in a nearby chair and fell asleep. The last thought that went though his head before nodding off was, . . . Long day.

Rorschach woke to a new scene, and was for a moment disorientated. He glanced around his limited field of view, and realized he was in some kind of medical establishment. Seeing Wes in a chair by his bed, Rorschach smiled. He was about to speak, but Wes was asleep, and he did not want to wake him.

Seeing Carter bleeding on the floor, I spoke up.

"Um, Doc? Should I just put him on the table too?"

 

[Baldrek]

"What!? Stop bothering me when I'm working for Christ's..." His angry voice trailed off as he realized that Austin was pointing at a badly wounded Carter.

"Put him over there..." He said as he continued to close Ben's wound. "And grab some disinfectant from my bag, and clean his wound. I'll be with him as soon as this git here is ready to go."

He continued stitching as he mumbled, "One second everybody is convinced we're invincible, and the next..." He sighed as he downed another glass of scotch. "Two dead, and three severely wounded... Don't say I didn't warn you arseholes though..."

 

[MasterSqueak]

I did as Theo said, mumbling to my self.

"I think I'm bad luck."

 

[Baldrek]

"Don't flatter yourself, boy." Theodorus said to Austin's comment.

"There wasn't a thing you could have done, and you're full of yourself if you think that you could." He cut the thread and finished up Ben's wound.

"Now stop sulking and do something useful, like carrying our drugged leader to the clinic." He said as he made ready to stitch Carter's wound.

Picking up Ben, I made my way out the door.

"Heavier than he looks..."

Wes heard a door open, and opened his eyes. He saw Austin struggling to carry Ben into the clinic, so he got up and helped. They laid Ben on a bed next to Rorshach. "What's happening at the bar?" He asked Austin.

I awoke to the smell of antiseptic, I sat up and rubbed my eyes. I was in a medical facility, lying on a table next to Rorscach. "Ohhh. What did I miss?" My head hurt like no tommorow.

I reached up to scratch an itch on my head, and quickly realized I was missing fingers to itch with. "Geez I forgot." I burst off the table. Looking at my bandaged hand. Blood had collected at the tip of the gauze. I realized I wasn't getting those fingers back so I sat down to let the sad truth sink in.

Sorry, I was gone all weekend. I didn't really have time to post this week either, so here we go. Getting the story rolling again.

"Turns out we have three wounded, I think his name was Carter? He's still getting patched up."

Ben woke up, and after a moment of disorientation, sank back down. I could see the sadness on his face.

Rorschach came round again to see Ben sitting down, looking depressed. Rorschach had no idea why, so he assumed something had happened while he was unconscious. He sat up, groaned, and called to Ben

"Hey, Ben, what's wrong?"

Rorschach asked me what was wrong. I held up the hand I was missing fingers on. I think I made my point.

"Shit" said Rorschach, softly, "That's bad. I never lost anything, but a guy on my old team had his leg ripped off in a blast, and I think he lost a bit of his soul with it. It's a heavy weight to bear, but you'll pull through."

Exhausted, he lay back, and was surprised by how tired he was. He wondered how badly he had been wounded. Had he too lost some vital body part?

"A great day for all." Wes said, loaded with sarcasm. "It was a bad idea to take two matches in one day. Everyone gets wasted after a match. . . those two didn't need to die. You guys and Carter didn't need to get hurt. . ." He trailed off, forgetting that they had been in a competition that thrived on death.

"I'm going to sleep." I announced, sitting down.

When Carter was properly stitched up, Theodorus helped the tender clean the bar before carrying Carter to his clinic.

"You're not as heavy as you look..." Theodorus muttered as he opened up the door to the clinic and stepped inside. As he walked into the room that used to be vacant he noticed that Ben and Rorschach were awake and that Austin and Wes were sitting in a couple of chairs.

He put Carter to rest in a vacant bed before seeing the look on Ben's face.

"I can fix that later on, however..." He shook his head, "They'll never be as good as the old ones, and the operations will be numerous, expensive, and not to mention, painful."

He made ready to walk out of the room to get some sleep in his own bed, "Your call... Oh, and I'll let you off the hook for now, but only because you need rest, you git..."
