Deciding on an Avatar

Well, I took your advice and chose something I liked. It's a Persona 4 and Gurren Lagann cross-over image of Izanagi-No-Okami (Which is what I named my computer build after). Lemme know what you guys think! And thanks a lot for the advice ^w^ If I decide to change it later, so be it, but I am rather liking this one~

Are you thinking of keeping your custom title as it is... or have it correspond to the pic you've chosen? (Just curious, that's all...)

I'm actually one of those people who changes their avatar constantly, but not as frequently here as on other sites (my steam friends must have a ball trying to pick me out of their list on weeks when I change daily, it's been known to happen).
Ideally an avatar should say something about the person in question, my avatar says three things: I am a fan of Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt, I am not afraid to use a character in a distinctly feminine pose to represent myself somewhat laying my gender identification on the table, and that I do not know how to animate GIFs, otherwise Scanty's lashes would be fluttering like they do in that scene.

Basically, just find an image that you don't mind being your first impression.

I just really like John Entwistle. I set it when I first joined and I've never seen any reason to change it. Just go with something you like. It's not really that important.

Stumbled accross this one 4 years ago. I thought it was funny, so I started using it on every site and never changed it.
Probably, because I'm too uninspired for looking for a fitting avatar?

I guess, waiting until you find the perfect avatar by simple luck is the best way to go!

My advice is to try wearing a few and see whether you still like them after a week. Most of mine I either wear a similar theme for months or years on end, or they don't last more than a fortnight before I get tired of them.

Mine will probably always be Persona 4. I just take one picture and tweak it a bit so it's unique to me.

I don't know how to give advice on finding an avatar. I just came across mine one day and thought "you know what? I like it. I wants it. I shall keeps it." And that was that. It used to be the Escapist's default picture of Winoa from FF8, since people said I look a lot like her and I like her character a lot. But then someone else started using that avatar so I had to change it because I was getting confused.

An artist friend of mine created it for me as a likeness to my online persona at the time.

I originally had one from Fire Emblem, but then I found Cynthia's really pimp animation from 5th gen and swapped it out. I'll prolly keep this one forever seeing as avatars are an easy shorthand to remember someone.

So I created the thing that is my avatar and have kept it since. Sides if I change it people would get angry at me.

I used to change my avatar a lot. I used all kinds of what-the-fuckery type avatars (always animated gifs).
(I posted the full gallery in a thread somewhere here. I'm sure you'll find it if you look hard enough.)

Anyway, one day, I changed it to a really shitty animation of a game of Tetris, which I planned on only keeping for a short time. (The fact that it was non-pubclub size made the animation worse than it already was.)

However, when I changed it to something else, I got bombarded with quotes, chat messages, and PMs, telling me to change it back.
So, change it back I did. And I've mostly stuck with it since (even though I don't play Tetris).

Since then, it's been improved. Increasing it to pubclub size helped immensely.
And [user]FizzyIzze[/user] was kind enough to re-do the animation to make it less jumpy and choppy. (He did that without even being asked! Kudos to him!)


TL;DR: So, it wasn't really a case of me choosing my own avatar. Everyone else chose it for me!

OT: My avatar changes depending on my mood. Usually it is a photo of me. Usually. Depending on the time of year it's either a "normal" photo (my prior to this was captain america staring at my boobs) or one of me in costume for halloween haunt (like this one or this one). Currently, though, I had @Drummodino re-size a RvB gif I made into something of an appropriate size for pubclub. I think he also smoothed it out a little. And for now, I'm really happy with it. But I'm fond of leaving an avatar as an avatar for a few months.

I changed my avatars about 3 times in the last month, but its because I just use memorable scenes from things I like:
The Yasuo login screen,
Transistor travel montage,
Frank Underwood nodding,
etc.

I would recommend just choosing whatever you think looks cool, but if you want to find something that is truly you, go for it.

I have trouble defining exactly what "me" is, so I just go with stuff I like.

Well, I picked this avatar because 5 years ago when I made this account I had just bought the Metroid Prime Trilogy.

My only advice would be to pick something you vaguely enjoy, but won't get sick of looking at.
I've never changed my avatar because I could never be arsed to change it (especially when the good ones are taken (LOOKING AT YOU TOPAZ!)), besides, its sort of humbling to look away at your account and remember the cringe-inducing person you were that once made this account.
