Well, that was informative. Now we know this game has zombies. Thanks, Deep Silver!

[sub]Left 4 Dead Rising... tropical edition.[/sub]
Left 4 Dead Farcry

So...is this going to basically be L4D

or

Are we going....survival horror OH GOD RUN FOR THE X?

Ya know...a zombie style game based on the Elder Scrolls/Fallout way of thinking would be pretty neat...

EDIT:

Wikipedia:
Dead Island will feature open world gameplay, played from a first person perspective, with up to four-player co-operative play (local and online) in a sandbox environment, including a heavily interactive environment. The focus will be on melee combat, incorporating customizable weaponry, vehicular customization/combat, and RPG elements.

There is an experience system and a skill tree system. There is also a stamina bar, meaning that after a set amount of action with a weapon, the character will need to stop to regain their stamina before continuing to attack. It has also been confirmed that there are "special class" zombies, which are more powerful than the standard enemies.[6]Also during night time and other areas of darkness, players will need to use flashlights giving players a suspenseful feel to the game.[7] Contrary to the depiction in the trailer, there will apparently be no children zombies in the game.[8]

OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG.....maybe!

Uhm...did I blink and miss the "In game" part of that trailer? I get it, depressing survival horror with zombies, that's nice, now show me some gameplay. You can show me all the random vacation pictures and scenes of abandoned streets all you want, but I want to see how it plays, how the emphasis on survival is, how the combat is, etc.
Ditto here. I'm surprised given their press release a few weeks ago stating that their game was nothing like the first cinematic trailer that they're still going with the "morose and depressing" direction.

Well you implied you wanted to learn something about the game,in what way would you like to be informed?
I want to be informed about the gameplay. Combat, inventory, enemy types, stuff that will give me an idea of how the game feels and plays. It's one thing to see a screenshot or read some text from the developer, seeing it in action is quite another.

Was I really that unclear?

Looks incredibly pretty. But I feel that all these "profound" and sentimental images are just tricking me into thinking that this will be more than just a zombie-slaughtering game.
Yeah, that's exactly what it's doing. It is possible that it's going to have a strong story, but nothing apart from the dramatic music and non-gameplay trailers actually seem to suggest this. The game is a zombie hack and slash RPG. Hack and slash RPGs don't tend to have good storylines, and games with weapons such as electric-machetes also tend not to focus on a strong storyline. Everything I have actually heard about the game has all been about zombie-massacring fun, and nothing else.

Basically, don't get your hopes up that this will be "more than just a zombie-slaughtering game." It certainly could be, but I really doubt it.

Man, every time I watch something on Dead Island, I'm convinced more and more it will better than any other zombie game,or at least different enough than the traditional one. I,for one,am very exited for this game, and my excitement just keeps on growing!

Finally managed to understand what was going on with this game not too long ago, with the initial trailer, and I'm impressed again. Very good new trailer.

As with the teaser, this shows me that the game is taking itself way to seriously. I can never take zombies seriously unless theres a HUUUUUGE twist on the concept, like the Flood from Halo.

So this game is a huge, huge miss for me. I don't care how fun the gameplay may be. If it's using your stereotypical zombies and trying to pass off as some serious drama about survival, it'll be shit in my eyes. I can't stand it.

EDIT: For the record, if this is all satirical, they fail at satire, because it's way too serious. But if the game comes out and it seems much funnier, THEN I'd give it a chance.

You pick 1 of 4 characters, its 1st person and relies on melee combat, geez i thought everyone knew this, I'd say the only thing thats similar to dead rising is that they both have zombies
So it's Left 4 Dead 2 on an island.
No mecause its a sandbox, why don't you look it up, the only similarity is that its the same enemie type and they both have weapons
The game you described is essentially Dead Rising in 1st person. Yeah, you get to choose characters, that still doesn't change the fact that it's Dead Rising in 1st person. If they live up to the promise of making this an actual survival game, then that's fantastic, but don't hold your breath.

Its like saying that crysis is the same as mass effect because they both have aliens, dead island looks a lot more serious than dead rising, its proper open world, not several open sections, and it has RPG elements

Almost as pretty as Crysis; the first one. I hope they actually have some fantastic story in the game to back up this advertising campaign. Island-wide zombie avoiding with an involving story would be bloody awesome.

There is still one thing that deeply worries be about this game: Deep Silver. STALKER Clear Sky is still damn near unplayable due to all its bugs and issues...
And? Deep Silver is the indie publishing arm of Interactive Entertainment. They just package, publicise and arrange distribution. The bugs in the S.T.A.L.K.E.R are squarely the fault of GSC Game world.

As I said before, if this game turns out to be just another shooty, explody, silly, stupid zombie game, DeepSilver/Techland will have proven themselves to be one of the biggest assholes in gaming.

While trailers don't give you everything about the game, they do tell you want the developer is aiming for. The trailers for Dead Island show that the developer (hopefully) wants to take a darker, more mature tone with the concept of surviving a zombie apocalypse. But from the little gameplay previews I've seen, it seems to be yet another wacky, crazy zombie game with one-liners and explosions.

So, basically, if this is true, DeepSilver/Techland have pretty much manipulated the public with pulling heartstrings over the death/zombification of a little girl all to sell the game as "edgy".

HOWEVER, if they are going the more "mature" route, I will honestly be impressed by that. I think we've got enough crazy zombie games, let's do something more interesting with it for once. Please, DeepSilver/Techland. Don't fuck up. And don't be fuckers.

Why are you so vehemently defending this game? It hasn't even shown us gameplay videos yet and you are defending it with crazy zealotry.

Seriously, it seems reasonable to defend a game from people that bash it before we see anything about it, doesn't the argument work the other way? We are skeptical about this game. It seems like nothing but a zombie slash and hack that is relying on sorrowful piano music and artsy style bullshit to reel in customers.

I personally think this will be a moderately fun, but not really a stand out sandbox zombie game. Something like STALKER really, just in a different setting and circustances.

In a way the Dead Island team have got a PR nightmare. They've been a runaway success at something the game isn't and wasn't even developed by the same people. So they've got to ease people into what the game is actually like, without destroying everything people think of them so far.

This kept the sentimental tone, without being as awesome, and began to worm into our heads that, in the end, this is a game where you fight zombies. I suspect they're going to have to release a few more trailers before it really works
