Hardly a contest. Ash wins hands down. Hell, Kirk doesn't even win in a contest of the best captains in the Star Trek universe, much less being awesome in any shape or form elsewhere.

Captain James Tiberius Kirk, hands down. Ash fights the undead on earth. Kirk fought a Gorn hand to hand and got into a death battle with a Vulcan. Both of which are significantly stronger than humans. The undead usually aren't that strong or nearly that smart. Plus Kirk travels the galaxy and commands starships. Ash does not, so he loses.

Edit: Also in his prime Shatner was a much more handsome man than Bruce Campbell has ever been or ever will be.

Ash is perhaps the greatest horror movie protagonist of all time. He gives literally zero shits. He's stuck in some nightmarish hellscape, and his reaction is to become more demented then the things he's fighting. To quote my man Rorschach, Ash isn't trapped with the demons, the demons are trapped with him.

Also, his design may have influenced the creation of Guts and Berserk, which automatically makes him the greatest ever. Sorry Kirk, it was never even a competition.

Nuh-uh, Guts is based on Rutger Hauer, specifically his character in Flesh and Blood. So yeah, Guts is based on a dutchmen... *epic fist pump*

OT: Eh, I don't know Kirk well enough to have a balanced opinion. Ash is great, though he's more of a cartoon character.

Damn, Miura should have seen this coming. Every country in the world is trying to lay claim to his characters. The Germans won't shut up about Gotz, that stupid mercenary of theirs, and British can't stop bringing up Michael moorcock. Oh well, countries have found dumber reasons to fight.

Ash indubitably resonates best with modern-day audiences, though objectively you have to give Kirk credit for all the space babes he's banged.

What I'd like to know is what would happen if you inserted Kirk into Army of Darkness and Ash into Star Trek.

Ash, with his infamous "Body modification" displayed a level of creativity and resourcefulness I don't think Kirk can match.

Can't top that man.

Gotta go with Kirk. Sorry. I've been born and raised as a Trekkie thanks to my mother.

We've been getting a lot of vs threads as of late; didn't they used to be a moddable offense back in the day? Anyway, I actually like this one as it's an uncommon mashup.

And while kirk is pretty awesome (he's still no picard - how do you beat the captain that made shatner respect star trek?), I still have to give the win to ash. Come talk to me after kirk cuts his hand off, duct tapes a chainsaw on the stump, and makes a car into a zombie lawnmower. That's not even mentioning all of the friends and loved ones that he has to put down after they get possessed, nor the time he drank boiling water, nor that awesome steel crushing robot hand.

Plus, bruce campbell is one mighty handsome man, chin and all.

Dead and Groovy...

OT: Ash is more kickass than Kirk, but Kirk will somehow get the girl before Ash...

Considering Ash never really gets the girl and Kirk is rather well-known for it, yeah.

Poor ash, always getting blocked by zombies and demons.

ahem, ash HAS to cut his hand off.

also Kirk kills loads of his loved one...mostly because he has so many...the Edith Keeler episode is one of the best ever made and he has to let Keeler (played no less than Joan Collins) be run over by a truck in front of him after falling in love with her.

[small]ps i may not be partaking of this discussion in an entirely serious manner.[/small]
[small]I may not be either[/small]

Kirk sure did get around a lot. There's probably some smug-faced little green baby out there somewhere that shares his genes. I'd hope so, at least, given that he spent his latter years hanging out with his old military buddies and repeatedly hijacking the same ship rather than trying to build some sort of familial legacy.

Oh god, I just pictured a kirk/tribble hybrid. I will not sleep easy tonight.

I really should watch Star Trek. It's just so slow with the first episode. And the episodes are so long and just. Ugh.

Anyway, back on topic. Ash is pretty damn badass, and also he is an ass. At any rate, he's just so...groovy. And obviously I'm not the only one that thinks that.

I'm pretty sure they're both nerds, and that Batman is the right answer.
