Dell, can I please have their jobs instead? I can come up with ideas twice as stupid and half as illegal.

I may have a future in marketing after all.

Uh, and just HOW was this supposed to promote their product?
This is the exact question I was asking myself while reading this whole article. Anyone have any ideas?

I honestly dont understand the the publicity stunt was supposed to be besides "Masked Gunman forces you to look at new product"

reminds me of that wrestling video where they jump off the roof and hurt themselves....how else can it be besides "exactly as planned"? lol

That is pretty hilarious. I wonder how long it took them to think of this.

They must have been sat around the table all night when a 'eureka' moment popped at 2am.

Why did he want them to go to the lobby?

Two ex-Dell employees, Bryan Chester and his boss Daniel Rawson, have been arrested after they caused a panic at Dell's offices in Round Rock, Texas. But, honestly, it sounds like they pretty much deserved it.
There, I fixed that for you.

I really don't know what in their minds clicked and made them think that doing that was a good idea.

Next thing you know, a store will hire people to bring packages onto airplanes, then stand up mid-flight, turn to the passengers, hold up the package, and say "Everyone, I have a bomb! A bomb that will promise you an explosion of SAVINGS! Shop at Wal-Mart today!" Then the package will explode to release confetti into the airplane.

Nothing can possibly go wrong...
That made my day.

Uh, maybe because they won't sell unless you're forced to use one at gunpoint?

I got nothin'. Especially since in most places the laws about threatening with a deadly weapon don't require a deadly weapon to exist, just for the person to behave in a way that makes it SEEM like he has a weapon and intent to use it. That's something even a kid should know.

Seriously, I think some marketers don't have that part of the brain that verifies whether or not an idea is retarded or not, and try to make up for it with focus groups. But if they can't get a focus group, it's.... Well, it's like the difference between the output and the input of a sewage treatment plant.

Evidently they didn't pay close enough attention to the time Ubisoft tried this with Splinter Cell Conviction.

I mean, how fucking stupid can you get?

Didn't something similar happen in Australia? I vaguely recall a video game marketing stunt that lead to police intervention.

This might have been dumb but people are even fucking dumber for saying he had guns when he clearly didn't have anything even remotely similar to a gun.

Wow... I bet I could do a better job of marketing for Dell then those guys. Also, why would you be marketing your product to your own employees? Shouldn't your employees already know about the product? Are they really the market you are looking for? Just sayin'
