But this music is still depressive but better: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QhRrqPVDf9g

Maybe I should lookup how to post youtube movies in posts instead of using links.
youtube=(the set of number or letter at the end of v= then (with the [])

Like this

youtube=d2tr35f2 (With the [])

Eh sorry i should have been more clear. I just couldnt be arsed to find Black Metal links.

I know At The Gates is Death Metal, although quite unconventional in its early days.

Props on Opeth, although i think that from Blackwater Park it isnt all that depressing.
S'all right I'm only kidding. I'm not that much of a genre schtikler but I'm not overly fond of most Black Metal and At the Gates had always been pretty experimental and hard to define. As for Opeth, depends how you look at it. Lyrically I'd say Still Life going backwards were their most despondant and poetic while the ambience of the music from Blackwater Park onward still elicited a downtrodden reaction. I don't know what kind of shit Akerfeldt thinks he's pulling with Heritage though 0_0 heard a couple of sample tracks and it's got me kinda worried.

I always thought that 'Piano Man' by Billy Joel was quite a sad song.
You hit the nail on it's head

Also, this one is pretty much unknown:
It gives me an incredible melanchonic and nostalgic feeling

edit:Mad World, how could I have forgot.

Frankie Teardrop by Suicide. I love Suicide but Frankie depresses the hell out of me. Great slow burn song, but I'd rather listen to Dream Baby Dream or Ghost Rider.
You can't have a depressing song thread without Gloomy Sunday (Hungarian Suicide Song), Frankie Teardrop and Cohen's Dress Rehearsal Rag.

As a general tip, an easy way to figure out markup templates is to hit the quote button next to the post of somebody who did what you're trying to do and identify the bit you need. Be sure to delete the rest of the text though, no use quoting people in your post unnecessarily.

Otherwise if you want to read up on a comprehensive list of what is available I believe there's a guide on it somewhere around here [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/markup_help.php]

Happy trails!

Edit: Added the link.

This always gets me close to tearing up every time. It may be part of a video games' soundtrack, but fuck you this is music.

Hmmm, are we talking about music that just sounds sad or something that makes you actually depressed?

Well either way I'd say these two:

Nooooooooo, this makes me cry sometimes but i like it so much, Curse you!

I'd say some of the stuff in lost oddysey gets to me sometimes. the stuff from the sad memory sequences can break you down pretty well depending on your mood.
This
Then this
Then the vocal version of the above, which gives me a mix of cheeryness and depressiveness

Some golden sun stuff

ok........... i swear that's it...

Porcupine Tree's album Fear Of A Blank Planet is pretty fucking awesome. It's about how the angry middle-class youth wilfully separate from society, anaesthetise themselves with drugs and are consumed by apathy and cynicity. You might also want to check out the EP Nil Recurring which contains four outtakes that didn't make it to the final Fear Of A Blank Planet album.

This song is incredibly sad, but only if you know the story behind it.

The song is about the singers old girlfriend who got pregnant. At first he was scared, but later, "When I saw that heartbeat, I knew it wasn't a sin". Unfortunatly it ended in a miscarriage, and the child died.

You saved me having to post it. They played this song at my school on Anzac day, and I thought it was just going to be some shitty patriotic crap, but it ended up breaking my heart.

I would also add:

Aaaaaaaaaaand I ended up getting carried away. Woops.

Given To Fly - Pearl Jam
You find Given to Fly depressing? I always find that song really uplifting. There's someone out to do nothing but good and spread love, and even when he gets attacked for that, "Well fuckers, he still stands". Is there a particular reason why it has the opposite effect for you?

As for my depressing selection it has to be Disintegration and Bloodflowers by The Cure. In particular, The Loudest Sound from the Trilogy show. You can see Robert Smith about to cry and it just kills me.
There's also a few songs on beautifulgarbage by Garbage that are pretty sad, like Drive You Home and Cup of Coffee. But then Cherry Lips (Go Baby Go!) is on that album too, so it's hard to be depressed for long.
