This and the new Castlevania have got me interested in new games. Looks like compelling narative and interesting gameplay!

I wonder if this new Deus Ex will have storyline choices such as the first Deus Ex had, or it will just be a Square Enix interactive movie? ;)

Multiple endings would be good, too!

Am I the only one holding out for more stealth than action? Deus Ex was best when avoiding the enemies or getting them from behind with the taser, not running in guns blazing. I don't mind if they throw in really good gunplay, I just want to be able to sneak around.

I've never played Deus Ex, but the trailer and hopefully represented game features look cool. I've also heard that ME is is similar to this franchise, meaning that I will like it.

On the bad side, it means the game has to have a high expected sales figure, which usually means appealing to a broad market. Since the broad market seems to consist largely of ritalin poppers this potentially spells very bad things for a game whose main appeal was complicated storyline and conspiracy theory theme.

It also means console ports, which will either make the game ugly or short.
In other words, it could very well end up as bad as Invisible War...

Whilst it would be awesome if Squeenix made a DX-style game (which you'd think would be reasonable since we're talking about a DX-prequel here), the money is in appealing to the masses, so as evilthecat alluded to, we'll probably end up with just another FPS bland-a-thon that'll make all the DX fanboys (myself included) cry.

I'm not looking forward to the disappointment :(
Squeenix in my opinion doesn't have a good track record for being inventive.. And apparently for this game they've already decided to add regenerating health (which presumably means no limb damage or 'realistic' setting.. rage already building there), stealth-kill cinematics and third person cover based shooting. My mind is officially blown.. Hey, at least we're back to distinct ammo though.

On the 'emotional' issue.. JC Denton was a nano-aug. Other than strangely glowing eyes and silvery metal threads here and there his augmentations weren't disfiguring or terribly intrusive. By the looks of it, this guy has lost both his arms (including presumably his sense of touch) and also has visible facial and body augmentations which, in a world which is clearly split on the issue of human augmentation, can't be a good thing.. Sure, he's superhuman, but it would in my opinion be the height of ridiculousness if he just badassed out and got on with it without any emotional baggage.

The challenge is handling emotional baggage responsibly, which.. yeah.. there's some pretty stupid cliche in there.

This looks too serious and angsty. I really don't remember Deus Ex being so Metal Gear Solid 4, hell it even mentions proxy soldiers and shadow governments, etc.
Yes because neither Deus Ex or its sequel had those. Oh wait. Seriously if you don't remember the giant fucking point of the plot of Deus Ex, you either never actually played the game, didn't pay attention, or you just have bad memory retention.

As to the other part about emotional baggage, the guy's had his arms replaced by cybernetics, among other things. It's a lot different from having someone inject you full of nanomachines.

Yes it had them, but it didn't pull an MGS4 monologue with flashes of the horrors of war and revolution while talking about them to a Japanese CG movie, now did it?

Apparently you don't know what a trailer is either. I'd reserve actual judgement until we see what the game is like.

What, exactly are you trying to argue here?
I'm saying the trailer is similar in style to MGS4.
And you're trying to say... what exactly?

That it's a trailer? I know that.
That Deus Ex was heavily about corporate and government conspiracy? I know that too and it doesn't have a damn thing to do with my claim.

The trailer looks Japanese and reminds me a lot of MGS4 to me. I have no idea what you're trying to argue.

That looked awful. Not graphically of course, but it put the focus entirely on being a generic cyborg badass killing and exploding stuff, instead of the deep storyline and real choices that made Deus Ex a classic. I hope the game doesn't follow along the lines of the trailer.

This.

I'm curious how they will make it work with the existing storyline which is especially challenging as a prequel.

Coupla people wondering why the game world seems to be more advanced than in the original DX.

Well in the first one ya got plagues, rioting, lotsa very bad people, evil corporations, corrupt governments, supersoldiers and terrorists, so things arent exactly going all too well until Jesus Christ Denton comes along and saves the day.

Anyway from what I remember about the original Deus Ex, things went really downhill for everyone once MJ12 created the plague, obviously thousands of people dying a day worldwide kinda hindered technological advancement, but there are still those crazy space age 'nano augs' and genetically engineered retard animals (greasels).

Am I the only one who thought the narrator/protagonist sounded exactly like Walton Simons?

That is going to give me some decidedly mixed feelings while playing this game...

Well i had a theory that the character in the 3rd game became too over powered so in the first two ( which is set after the new one) they downgrade the biotics because the companies got too worried of there capabilities hence why jc denton or alex didnt have all those gagets in there arms. Just a theroy but it could work.
