Sounds like a good, but not a great game. I'll probably wait till the price goes down or Yahtzee points out some huge flaws in the final build.

This is one of those games that really has me on the fence, and the main reason is that the first game was bad. The first game had bad gameplay, bad level design, bad understanding of what I did or did not do, misinterpreting almost everything I did in the game, and to top it off a bad story.

So you can se why the new game doesn't fill me with confidance, Lets hope this one doesn't get screwed like other promising titles.

I really gotta decide if I'm gonna get this game or not. It sounds good, but will it live up to it? We've all played games that sounded good, but turned out to be crap. Or, at least, games that didn't live up to their potential.
Invisible War springs to mind.

The preview didn't discuss if there will be some kind of class system.
There's always a class system in DX games. Usually, the rich guys are assholes, and the workers are poor assholes.

OT: Can't wait. Looks like it's nearly time to upgrade my system.

Sounds very good but I will reserve final judgement until it actually released, I don't want to get burned like Ivisible War again, and given their poor form this year I'm half expecting Square-Enix to ruin it somehow.

Yes it won't certanly blow you away like the first, but seriously it would be too much to ask for.
This game is 1. on my wishlist. Sure there are a few things I don't like, but if it captures the feel of DX1 then it will be great :)

I can't tell whether it was a joke or not, but if not: He meant as in you picking a class (i.e a Melee class or a Ranged class)

Anywhoo looks awesome! glad to hear that eventhough it won't surpass the original game it still holds quite a lot of ground!

There typically isn't a class system in Deus Ex... your able to go about the game as you see fit building your character in anyway, to suit your needs, unrestricted by such a system... but in Invisible War... the way the augmentation system was set up you might as well have been choosing a class...<.<

I was clarifying to that guy, but never mind :p I would ask you to answer my thread (Why all the flak for Deus Ex 2?) for you seem to be one of the people with flak for Deus Ex 2 :p

After our time with the demo was over, everyone at the event gathered around to compare notes - what we had tried, what'd we'd found, what had worked, what hadn't, what quests we'd unearthed, and what secrets we thought we knew.
Does that mean other gaming journalists, or sharing notes with the developers? Is that a usual thing to do in preview events?

Ok, so it won't boggle minds like its illustrious ancestor, but it does sound like it could be a good game in its own right.

In this case, both. And it's certainly not unusual to share impressions with each other, but this was a little bit different. We weren't discussing the game as professionals, we were doing it as players, if that makes any sense to you.

Two slight little complaints.

1. You complain about blind-fire being fairly inaccurate. Well duh it's going to be inaccurate. You're just sticking the gun out and holding the trigger.

2. You complain of balance issues. From other reviews I've read, they all praised the difficulty and were happy that nothing had been toned down for the consoles.
1. I emptied a full clip into a guy's stomach. He didn't so much as twitch.

2. The devs themselves said the balance was off and asked us to play on casual. We still died repeatedly.

This sounds amazing! I can't wait to get my hands on this! It's about time we get some deep games, both story and play wise, as the current trend seems to be to dumb everything down to: shoot him, blow up that. I hope the story is as batshit (batshit in this case meaning great) as in the original. I mean Templars, Illuminati, world government conspiracy, cyperpunk weaponry, and some genetically altered disease? Madness! Yet so much fun...

dammit, i made a huge comment, and all was lost because the page bugged...*ARrrrrgh!*

Personally it seems this game has similarities with MassEffect2 and DragonAge2 in the way that there's more focus on the main character, and less in the scenery and less "stuff to do apart the main storyline" i mean in both of those examples, the games were dumbed down one as a shooter the other as a beatem all version: less customizations, less suits, less items, in ME2; similarly in DA2 it was the combat system, and the npcs: packs of grunts followed by a mini boss, then the same with different generic npcs, then a mini boss.

it seems that either this is done for a more persuasive approach for newcomers aka casual gamers, or the path where this is going is becoming even more minimalistic.

I do have high hopes for Deus Ex 3, but i'm also skeptical about what it will deliver. i did enjoy there's those tidbits of information about the story disseminated around the levels, and there's some investigation to do, if you want some more.

My biggest complaint is the lack of stealth. And with this I don't refer to this "pseudo"-stealth system where everything is preprogrammed (you can stealth-kill/knockout only HERE). What made Deus-Ex 1 great is the freedom you had. Here you're running on tracks especially if you don't run-and-gun around. That said there is a chance they fix it until the release but I'm still burned from DX:IW so I won't hold my breath. So far TNM is the real Deus-Ex 3 for me. Only reason I see right now to get DX3 is if the modding is up on par. This way the game is most probably crap but high class mods can save it (and mods are nowadays usually more interesting than the original game).

Huh, odd. Other reviewers had pretty different experiences. Being goaded into playing on the hardest difficulty (Deus Ex) and having weapons do tons of damage either way.

Then again, I wasn't there so I'm not really in a place to argue the validity of your experiences.
