Meh. My first character had 60 hours, my father in law has a character at over 100 hours.

I'm not saying this issue doesn't exist but its hardly relevant on the PC (for the people saying PC are hurt by it too).

If a game this buggy had been released on the PS2, would anyone have blamed the hardware? Why is Bethesda so fuckin' special that we are blaming the hardware for the failing of the developers?

He explains this probably wont be fixed, because like in FO3 and FONV its an engine issue, they'd have to completely redesign the game...
So why the hell didn't they redesign the engine after these examples?
Yeah thats pretty much the point of the thread.. i dont understand how we keep letting them get away with it.
Because people see a new game in a series - Elder Scrolls, Fallout - and just think "MUST HAVE" without remembering the substantial issues that came with its predecessors.

Fallout3 was issuey enough. New Vegas destroyed my faith in the series. Unless the next one comes with a new engine, I won't be interested.

And this is a bit jarring for me to find in a video game from 2011 specially made for supposedly the most powerful console of this generation, when a whole 7 years earlier in 2004 we had faces like this to set the standard:

That's Two Thousands and FOUR! Three years before the PS3 would even be available to purchase in UK.

And don't get me started on animation. So intricate and complex in 2004's Half Life 2 yet simplistic in 2011's Killzone 3.
I think this is more of an issue with the developer creating the game then it is with the hardware it was developed for. And it's not exactly fair to compare Guerilla to Valve, is it?

Sony pushed Guerilla to be their Bungie, but Guerilla just doesn't have the experience or talent to pull off major blockbusters. It also simply isn't in their mentallity because they're Dutch.

I also don't really get how because of the lag issues with Skyrim the PS3 is suddenly back to being the worst console ever conceived.
Well I think it IS fair to compare a game from 2004 with one from 2011, Valve or not, they are dealing with hardware a whole generation ahead and it is still severely lacking in such a key area as facial detail. And Half Life 2 was hardly pushing things as much as Crysis did,

I'm not being a graphics-whore, I am being a "What-the-fuck-did-my-$600-get-spent-on" whore. PS3 was very expensive at launch as still sold at a loss. In fact in the UK where it was delayed 6 months it was £425 which back then was $800 equivalent. And you know what, it was kinda based on the promise that Sony was delivering something really exceptional.

Killzone was supposed to be the best-of-the-best. Sony gave Guerilla Games the time and money to hire the best graphics designers in the industry, it's not JUST that studio whoever happened to be there.

Tbh stills never really show the hole story... most of the time i think screencaps of games look ugly even if they're from a game i think looks great.
So you posting 2 screens doesnt really prove anything, especially given they're two different games by two different devs.
Well I just posted that to help illustrate an overall impression, not that it DEFINES my overall impression. People have just kept replying in reference to it.

Overall I an not impressed graphically with Killzone 2 or 3 and that is after buying and playing both of them. Of all the things I appreciate my PS3 for, its graphical capability is not one of them. To spite its much greater cost it has struggled to match 360 in terms of quality and in wider consideration of performance PS3 has been a major letdown.

I've been again and again impressed by the SMARTNESS of Xbox 360 and rendering good looking games, rather than by inefficient brute force of the Cell processor it has all the same elements just arranged perfectly. And more recently the use of HDD installs to hugely increase the capability.

Always amazed that global loads still happen,

This is why I have 8GB of RAM and a Skyrim launcher that fixed the memory address issue by allowing it to use 4GB RAM. I just checked and it's still in the top ten for Skyrim nexuss (http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=1013)

o.0 and someone added Dragon Bone Weapons FTW, now if only I could get marriage fixed in my game (I already did the favors before getting the quest apparently making a few of my options impossible, there have to be some console fixes (like restart their quests) but until I get the creation kit I'm stuck...)

I was planning on getting this on the PS3, but after hearing all the crap about lag issues, I might wait until I get it a bit cheaper.

This might not be a breaking issue for some, but from what I understand, a lot of players have frame issues like there's no tomorrow, making the game unplayable; a risk i am not willing to take for 50-60 euros.

EDIT: Ergh, okay, okay, I get it. Skyrim is capped at 2GB. Everyone can stop quoting me about it now. Jeez!
ACTUALLY you can uncap it with various mods, so you used to have a point, but now you edited it to make it wronger. :p

And yes, I'm trolling just a touch. :p

Didn't they sell over $400 million in product with Skyrim? I think perhaps they should consider fixing this for the next game release, as it will likely only get worse as games become even more detailed than they already are.

Not expecting miracles in Skyrim, but this seems like a big deal that should probably be sorted out come TES6.

I want ladders too, but not if I can't quick release from it (to prevent myself from getting stuck between two dipshit NPCs. It's bad enough getting trapped in a room at the goddamn Inn, I can't imagine being trapped on a ladder. Now that I think about it, they should allow me to shove NPCs (push) like in Left 4 Dead or something that does not (immediately) provoke a guard induced ass kicking.

Couldn't they just make a patch to raise the storage cap to buy some time while they modify the positioning code for a second patch?

I don't know what's going on with some of the people, but I have clocked in over 120 hours on my first play-through and I've had the game freeze on me ONCE and very little lags. I think people just need to take care of their system/game better or something...
If you'd read the answers to the problem by a dev who's worked on the engine before you'd see that it's a fundamental problem with how the game tracks the states of various objects in the world by changing bit structure on placement, holding, ai routine to run etc with objects that must be loaded each time taking the worst toll on the system such as NPCs and companions.
If in your 120 hour save you've only visited Falkreath, Whiterun, Windhelm and the college of magic and Markarath (and a few dungeons along the way) and never taken out a a single companion or touched any placeable object such as the various pots and pans that are lying around you probably won't have a major problem but if you visited/interacted with more people, objects etc in the time it takes for the game to reset certain fields (3 ingame days for non static container contents as an example) you'd also be facing these problems.

>>>>>>>>>><<<<<<<<<<

With regards to the engine it is the Gamebryo engine with a new coat of paint without any of the underlying problems sorted out.
Why don't they pick up their dishes that get knocked over in town? I smashed the hell out of the hall in whiterun (didn't kill anybody), came back days later and the shit is still laying about. I asked the king about it, but he didn't want to talk about it. I shouted at him, (he might have been hard of hearing) but the guards didn't take very kindly to that.

Anyway, the lag issue could be fixed if they add some "patch code" to put everything in a town back to default after a few days, no? That way the game only has to track what is in your inventory. They could leave the shit in the caves alone if they wanted to, but in town I'm pretty sure the Jarl's have a cleaning service or two. :)

Have not picked it up yet for the PS3, and I am hopeful that the problems get fixed.

So, Skyrim, the Escapist's Choice BEST GAME OF ALL TIME, is unplayable in 1/3 of the copies.
Yep. It's just that good, even the 33% who can't play it think its the best game ever!

OT: 360 version, no issues to speak of, just over 40 hours. I've a friend with the PS3 version, and while he's had the occassional FPS stutter its nothing like the huge drops reported in the article. He's put in about the same amount of time as me, though, and doesn't play in very long bursts.

To all those having trouble, I'd recommend limiting plays to less than an hour. If you want to go over, restart your system every hour or so. Its annoying, but it should help a little. Just imagine you are playing the PC version and crashing to desktop or something.
HAH! :D

OT: I love my PC. And Skyrim. Why arent there more hours in the day?

PS3 RAM issues... Wonderfull times.
I remember trying to use the internet browser when I first got my original fat ps3. When browsing certain "image-heavy" sites the screen would sometimes turn white and give an "out of memory error"

Well... shit. I've put in about 100 hours now and it's starting to lag and freeze when I fast travel. I give myself about another 50 hours until it becomes unplayable, but I've still got stuff to do :(.

They made alot of money with their other games, they need to fix this now, not wait 5 years until TES 6.

The only time I've had problem with lag on my PS3 is if I've been playing for a long time in one sitting. If I turn it off and come back a few hours later, lag is gone and I can go straight back to playing.
I want them to fix the resistances though. Fighting Dragons now is like fighting them at level 10ish. I'm level 59. I shouldn't be hiding behind a rock chipping away at its health because my flame resistance no longer works.

Sorry, PS3 owners. You got screwed by a system that doesn't play well with third party developers. Contact Sony, maybe try to get your money back.

High five for pc gaming =P

Anyway no doubt modders will make it use 8GB or more like they did with fo3 and fnv, which were gonna need when the high res texture packs come out

I know I'm not making any friends with this statement but:

And this is why the PC is the superiour platform. Because it can have the power I want it to have, I am not limited to 6y old hardware, I am not depending on the big brands to release a console when 1/3 of the playerbase has already surpassed them by far in terms of hardware.
not all PCs are created equal...

but my lack of investment abilities aside...I don't recall my friends having many issues with New Vegas despite its reputation. it was fun, group of us all playing the Fallout games (and Oblivion) on different platforms and sharing stories...but maybe the games got patched up by that point
