Personally. I think the look makes sense. It's set when he was a kid.

And like it or not. A new game that was exactly like the last 4 wouldn't have sold. They're re-booting the series. Not literally. But close enough.

This is probably exaclty what the series needed so it didn't get stale......er
I'm not a 100% sure of this but wasn't DMC bought by a new company or director? something like occured or so forth that caused the new owners desire to "fix" the series due to the messed up chronological order and dead beaten horse orientation.
Yea.

Team ninja or something bought it.

They're gettin flack because the new Dante kinda looks like the guy who owns that company.

But I'm glad I'm not the only one who felt Dante had been beaten long past his death.
Oh I didn't even hear about how the Heroin addict looked like the company owner, but thats definitely interesting xD

and yea, it was a feeling that slowl creeped up on me as I progressed onto the fourth game. Poor poor beaten Dante!

Look, the gameplay may be fine, but the direction they're taking the character is horrible.

I think if it's a prequel, which I'm guessing it is, it could be quite good. Whiney heroin junkie Dante could very well turn into goofy pizza junkie Dante by the end of the game. I'm reserving judgement 'til it actually comes out. I will say, graphics look gorgeous.
Well you have given me the oppertunity to hope for a goofy pizza boy dante, thank you! xD
And I agree, Gorgeous Graphics that make my eyes jealous!
We all go through that teenage angsty phase before we grow up, get jobs and realize how much more fun life can be if you're just cheerful about it. Who's to say Dante's any exception?

Also, the fact that 'classic Dante' is alive and well in MvC3 makes me think that whiney little ***** Dante won't end up replacing him. Sadly, steroids Chris Redfield has apparently replaced classic Chris Redfield. Oh well, can't win them all.
Don't even mention Christ Redfield >.> (sore topic full of upset disappointment and enough rage to fuel another umbrella company in hopes for a revision)

And your right now that I,too, lend some though to it. he was just fine in MvC3 so perhaps thats evidence enough.

Oh the fun of thinking what jobs Dante could of possibly had as an "angsty" youthful potential kid.
Hehe, sorry. Sore topic for me too. Also a sore topic that LEON KENNEDY IS NOT IN MvC3 WTF CAPCOM.... but I digress. Yeah, I'm not worried. His hair is going white in the trailer, he's got a red coat... *in a proud momma voice* I think he's gonna turn out just fine *sniffle*

Also, now that I think about it. Maybe he's angsty 'cuz his mom died, his dad's a demon and his twin brother's a douchebag? (albeit a cool one). Idk, but there's plenty of room for them to flesh out a coming of age story while allowing us to mince lots of demons.
I KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN..LEON KENNEDY! It just doesn't make sense, *headdesk* >.<
and yea, I think he is definitely well off, what with the red coat and all ^_^

as for the family,....I didn't think about it like that. Hard to be a pizza boy with only one parent...whose a demon and your only next in immediate family is like the biggest douche to scower the earth...Dante must of been a hot topic employee. XDD

So yea, In all respects though, there is plenty of oppertunities for them to utilize the more youthful Dante and elaborate his past in a way that allows us to rip into the demon world while learning more about what it took to manifest our favorite badass cocky demon hunter.

that would be more then ideal, except for how it would greatly reduce the life of a forum xD

He definitely has the appearance of a heroin addict..who failed injecting, or injected one too many times.

And if Team Ninja screws up...kiss the series goodbye!

I'm not making any judgements at all until I see some gameplay. Because I'll tell you what, when I played DMC 1 it was -not- the character that made me love it, it was the crazy stuff he pulled off.

In any case, when it comes to the Fanbase, they have their holy grail, DMC3, and they'll never like another DMC again.

I can understand that viewpoint, it is the gameplay itself that would require more a judging then a mere trailer that leaves us completely unaware of what is to come. Though I do agree with you on DMC 1. In the beginning before I knew anything about DMC, I quickly became more fascinated with the potential in what you could do with Dante..more then Dante himself.Though that did change soon enough as I enjoy Dante as a Character.

DMC3 is definitely the shiny stone amongst dull rocks in the DMC series, we'll just have to wait and see what type of fan loving DMC 5 gets.

There, now you know what the fanbase wants.
well actually i want this. :D

Seriously though, I was among the fans who hated the new look. However when capcom stated it would be an origin story of how he became the Dante we know, I kind of changed my mind. The game is most likely set only a few years after his mother was killed by demons and was separated from Virgil, and has come to hate his demonic heritage. He?s dyed his hair and seems to be living rough so no one can find him, doing what he wants when he wants of course this gets him in trouble and on the radar for the human antagonist (I?m only assuming there is one as there was one in three of the four games).

So by the end of the game he may loosen up, until then I?ll wait for more updates.

and I prefer this Dante over 2,3 and 4s.

You make some good points here, and I find your observation funny!
Definitely can't win when half the fan base doesn't even know what they want anyhow lol.
Give them Dante and they want something different, Give them something different and they want dante. Perhaps a trailer that keeps them in the grey area is what is called for!

And in the same light, I'll also being buying the game once it hits the $20 range as like you said, will happen in due time.
It's very simple...

We want this.

Not this.

Or this.

Very informative, I appreaciate your continued response.

and I feel ya (on the pic) xD
As for your paragraphi, That does sound fairly logical and most likely the way capcom is going to advance the game. As for the human antagonist, I'm willing to bet on that. Seems to be a common archetype found amongst the series so I wouldn't expect to much different. Though thats a flawed thought seeing is the series is under new management and its the "reset" game so perhaps they take the game on in a different pattern/way.

This game will prolly be the direct link to the Dante we all know and love actually.

It's not only that the new Dante looks like Hillary Swank on meth, but that the game is being developed by Ninja Theory who haven't made a good game ever.

I was never a huge fan of the series myself, but the one thing DMC always nailed was the silky smooth combat controls. Compare that to the clunky controls of Heavenly Sword and Enslaved.

I myself have never played either Heavenly Sword nor Enslaved so such experience has passed me by but by your report, its nothing to be proud of, ehh?

I enjoy your comparison of Hillary Swank. That gave me quite the laugh.

I'm going to be bold here and suggest my hypothesis on what's going on:

I think it's going for the old "Tony Redgrave" storyline, which is something I've always wanted to see because that back story makes the rest of the series make a lot more sense.

I think they changed his look because he's supposed to be incognito so that he can't be found since his father (Sparda) wanted him hidden from Mundus and the various other forces of the Underworld. He won't be Dante until the 3rd game, at this point he's Tony Redgrave, so I don't think he'll have Ebony And Ivory in the beginning of the game either, because he doesn't get them until later on in the back story where a gunsmith etches "For Tony Redgrave By .45 Art Warks".

Although in their place he may have Luce and Ombra, his father's guns which also have the same etching on the side.

He does get Rebellion for his birthday as well as his half of the medallion (the other half going to his brother Virgil), but I don't see either in the pictures or the trailer anywhere, so I'm guessing he won't have Rebellion or the medallion and this happens before they were given to him, which also suggests that his mother might still be alive and his father would still be on earth since they have to be around to give them to him, this could also mean that Virgil might be around there somewhere, too.

However, I highly doubt they'll be following the canon of the "original" series and this seems like a complete reboot, so, more than likely, this will take elements from the "old" games and make something new out of them. To be honest, I'm not fussed about the story, it's the combat system that I'm concerned with. That's the one thing they shouldn't mess with too much unless they're improving it in some way, but if it's not broke, why fix it?

I want to play the game before i make an opinion. As long as it fits the story and fleshes out Dante, sure why not? It´s not like the story is one of the strong points in the series...they must keep the kick-ass gamplay and soundtrack though!

Well said, your hypothesis is bullet proof from what I can tell. I hadn't even thought about Luce and Ombra actually. If this does include his mother being alive, i'd be surprised really.
I think that with the way the series was heading, that it indeed needed a reboot so I do have fingers crossed on that but like you mentioned, they best not be messing with the combat system unless they are a 100% sure that its for the better!

You have reminded me of something I hadn't even thought about...the soundtrack! I'm a little bit scared now that this new production company won't keep up with that element of the game. Sad face!

Aside from being stuck as playing as Tommy Wiseau's Long lost brother now while Dante is off making Marvel Vs Capcom 3..well, i'm more or less willing to wait for a few more trailers. BUT, i will have to ask...if this is indeed a prequel, what are we gonna have in place of the Devil Trigger?

If i remember, he doesn't get that till the third game so....yeah, is it gonna be completely left out or are we gonna have something to replace it with? I just ask as it is a rather key part of Devil May Cry and all..so if he DOES get it without a damned good explanation, I will be more pissed then when i played Sonic 2006.
