I have one word why you should get it:

TYRAEL!
Yeah... You're assuming the story in Diablo 3 will be worth a crap. Had you seen the opening cinematic, you'd know that is not the case.
I've seen the cinematic, and I have no idea what you're talking about.

Also, they could have the writers for Call of Duty writing this game for all I care as long as I see more Tyrael.

And before anyone says it's an anti-piracy method, Steam does DRM better seeing as it has a functional offline mode.
On the rare occasion it works.

I myself would recommend Diablo III if you like loot and killing stuff
Just have to point out that I didn't have internet for months and months. Then, I got a wireless connection through my phone but still go into offline mode every day. The only time it failed me was when I downloaded a game, then went into offline mode without opening the game first. Offline may have a few bugs, but it is still functional.

On topic, don't buy Diablo 3. Why? Well, looking at how its set up, Blizzard is geared up to make a bazillion dollars through the real money auction house. The biggest bottleneck to this cash will be having a bigger player base. Once they have gotten full price from all the hardcore Diablo fans, it will behoove them to at least drastically drop the price. Should the real money auction house not work, then someone at Blizzard will suspect that they need a bigger player base, and drop the price very quickly. Or possibly the AH system will tank the fun of the game and player confidence, in which case...they may drop the price of the game. If I am wrong, or people play the game while ignoring the AH aspect, then Diablo will stay at a high price, sure. In this worst case scenario, you will avoid the crazy rush and post release problems, and possibly just get to play Torchlight 2 for a while instead. Very Small risk of a very small punishment versus a lot of potential savings. It's probably safe to say that if you ignore the AH, the game will be loads of fun. Be patient.

How much story does D3 have? Blizz said it has more that D2 but from the ~1h I played D2 it has no story whatsoever so 'more' wouldn't be much.

D2 has no story? Blasphemer!

Of course, it's a hack'n'slash game so it's pretty much natural for the story to take a backseat to killing monsters, otherwise the killing monsters part would be really dragged down by the story elements. Which is funny, that's exactly the case in D3. It's riddled with shitty escort missions, shitty characters with shitty dialogue and severely unimpressive cutscenes, at least throughout the demo.

There are literally something like 4 escort missions in the space of one hour. Seriously hoping that's not the case after the first couple of hours.

Edit: And I don't know how the hell I posted this. This comment was supposed to be deleted, heh.
I played the beta and there were no escort mission in the regular "take this guy with you and go here, done". I think we had two missions where there were someone with us, but we still focused on killing monsters and the guy that was following us was supposed to go to the same place we were.

But Diablo 3 is supposed to have random events and missions, perhaps you got something we didn't.

Well from my personal experience with the diablo 3 beta over the past 3 months i can say i thouroughly enjoyed it.

It just feels more streamlined than diablo 2 and each level (at least to 13) you get some new mechanic or tool to play around with without the need to worry about assigning stats and getting it wrong.

From a new player perspective i got the mrs to sit down and play it and she picked it up pretty fast and was enthralled within 30 minutes struggled to get her off the pc an hour or so later.

I played alot of torchlight and if im honest... i really do preffer diablo 3 it has alot more shine. Playing as a barbarian when you crit an enemy and kill them they get sent flying leaving a blood smeer along the path they landed and slid along then crashing through destructable objects such as barrels or sign posts.

Very satisfying indeed.

As for torchlight 2 i plan to play that as well i'm a big boy and can do both ^^ so i don't need to swear alligance to one or the other. As it stands Diablo 3 is a good game and alot of fun.

Some people seem to carry a chip on their shoulder about blizzard, from my experience i have yet to not throughly enjoy a game they have made if thats worth anything :)

You should get it because it's "D I A B L O I I I ".The game might not have the same executives from Condor that worked on the first two games, but it's still feel all the same.

I played the beta and I can feel like the wait was worth it.The fact that it's online only I can perfectly understand. In this day and age especially with the introduction of RMAH there will be a higher risk of your accounts getting hacked.

If they would of implemented an offline mode then duping/bots etc would of ruined everything. Those might occurr later on in the game(I bet pirates will hack the game so it can be played offline anyway),but I get why they need to make their game be played on their servers,so they can monitor everything.

I've been a fan of Blizzard ever since I started playing the first of their trinity titles(Diablo,Starcraft,Warcraft)and they haven't disappointed me so far and I doubt they will with Diablo 3.

My 2 cents.

I'm getting it, considering I have a working connection to the internet and it looks like good fun.

It's the Call Of Duty of RPG's. Bland, generic, no plot, flat characters. It's rather meh. Yet you have thousands upon thousands of people going crazy over it. At least Blizzard >>>> Activision and it's only the third game since forever and not the 10th game in a yearly series.

Don't bother. Get Fallout New Vegas: Ultimate Edition or The Witcher 2. Now THOSE are RPG's.
Hell Zelda is better than Bored-out-of-my-skull Diablo
