Diablo 3's Leah is one of the worst characters ever.

Thanks guys... a lot of people just ruined what is likely a major plot point. Seriously, I don't expect it to be deep and riveting stuff, but any kind of plot turnaround is something.

SPOILER TAGS, MOTHAFUCKA, DO YOU USE THEM?!

Also, PE made a strip on this...

Also, ignorance aside, I don't think she even ranks that high on the list of bad characters in games. The Medium has millions of awful examples, thanks to the awful writing that goes into most games.

Blizzard can't do a story that isn't nailed down to 30 minutes of cinematics? Say it 'aint so!

It's true that nobody plays the Diablo games for their story, but I typically like to know how my actions fit in the world. Here, they just... *kinda* fit. I mean, consider the initial hook:

A fallen star which, as it turns out is not at all a demonic force, more or less wrecks Tristram Cathedral. Somehow, that not-at-all-demonic force ends up being the cause for an undead crisis.

No sense was made here.

Then there's how three McGuffins have fallen along with the star and we need to retrieve them in the general area around New Tristram. Those three elements are very much NOT demonic either, and yet they drive the Goatmen to madness. Sense? None.

What's even worse is Cain's nonsensical leap of logic concerning how these objects are affecting the local Khazra tribes. How in the heck would Deckard come to that conclusion?

Yes, Blizzard deals in sloppy writing, but this honestly takes the cake. What hurts even more is how Leonard Boyarsky, the lead designer on Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines, which also happens to be one of the RPGs with the best character development and dialog around; was actually part of the writing team for D3.

There's "dumb writing", and then there's "we don't give a shit" writing. This is the former.

Yea, no one plays diablo for the story:
Diablo 1: A voiceless nameless hero comes to town A to kill demon B

Diablo 2: A group of voiceless nameless heros come to point A To kill demons A-C

Diablo 3:A character who now has a voice goes to kill demons D and E, and then kill demon A again, who they accidentally help bring forth it's return.

From this we can see that Diablo 3 has the strongest story out of all of the diablo games.

Well okay, if only Nephalem can enter the temple, how did Maggie and her cronies manage to telleport into it? Seems to me a lot of the danger and hassle could just be avoided in the Diablo world when using a school of magic known as plot convenience.

And as for him talking to diablo? Could you expand a bit on this one? He clearly aknowledges the girl's presence so was he inside her all this time or something?
Well, they teleported after our hero had gained access, so at least there's an excuse.

Leah is the Dark Wanderers(Diablo, eventually) and Adrias child, and Leah's constantly becoming more intertwined with the black soulstone(where Diablos soul is). So she's a glorified telephone in the scene.
Azmodan never addresses the girl, in fact, he says: "Our brethren". The soulstones weren't her trap, but Diablos plan to become the Prime Evil.

EDIT: Since physics is hard, I guess I'll address this too:

It's established in the lore that "not-at-all-demonic forces" can also raise the dead.
It's also expanded on that(talking to Tyrael or something) the undead are the ones that were unjustly slain troughout all the shit Tristrams been trough.

As for the madness (and this actually would have sufficed for the zombies, but oh well.)
Excessive. Magical. Power. Why should it matter what flavour?

Lol . I agree with the Leah thing . She is dumb as dirt . But cain isn't the brightest star in the sky either . He always points out the obvious . And is it just me or does cain not age at all?
It's the Sean Connery-like voice. Just sounding like him makes you ageless.

Meh it's usual blizzard fare, keeps the location changing and more bad dudes showing up and not much else.
Can't say any more should be expected compared to the story in the previous games.

Chris Metzen has been quoted as saying...

Chris Metzen: "Her spirit's still out there somewhere. There's a good girl there, that deserves to be saved and brought back from the abyss. So, while we don't have any clues yet what subsequent chapters will be (a couple of clues), I would bet that we would chase that down, because it feels right from the story level and it feels right from the character level."

Leah's Journey video, Collectors Edition DVD.

So, Expansion/Sequel fodder. Nice work again Blizzard. Trashy and Tactless as ever.

In short, Leah could have been better if the writers weren't so goddamn sloppy.
Yeah, this feel for expansion like the ending scene of Diablo 2 with Baal chatting up the nut is kinda what I felt the lack of concern for Leah in Act 4. Also, why nobody mentions the "traitor" Adria. As the last apparent ally of Evil, I would expect to expansion to revolve around Adria and some business of using Leah's soul for something.

I mean, I recall playing the first Diablo. I don't recall the Angels being a big thing, or any mention of a world stone or that the crystal then end scene has you jabbing in your skull being made from it. Maybe that's cause It's been 14 years since I played it.

Not really sure if I'm trying to make a point anymore.

Like half the manual of Diablo 1 shows us the backstory of the war and the origin of the soulstones and how Diablo corrupted Tristram.

The most memorable moment for me so far was finding Warriv in the beggining of the game, that was aweseome, hurtful, but awesome.

Every character in Diablo is simply a plot device with a voice and a brief personality, in order to drive our epic adventure through 1,000 labyrinth style dungeons of clicky goodness. I think we are all aware of this by now, no?
But no character in d1 or 2 was this retarded. D2 had some great dialogue by the way.

"And the evil that was once vanquished shall rise anew. Wrapped in the ?guise of man shall He walk amongst the innocent; and Terror shall consume thee who dwell upon the Earth. Behold! The war amongst the heavens shall not be contained; and the sons of man shall be engulfed in the flood of conflict, and all hope shall be lost unto them. And He shall make war upon the heavens, and the heavens shall gird themselves as for battle. The righteous shall fall upon the wicked... and lay siege to the very gates of Hell. And He shall take peace from mankind and loose great destruction upon the earth. The Lord of Hatred shall ascend his throne; and the fires of Hell shall devour all.
And He shall mete out his vengeance upon all flesh. And the blood of innocents shall run as great torrents.
... Who then shall be saved? ..."

Why can't blizzard take diablo as serious as blizzard north did? I very much dislike Diablo 3.
Wouldn't the main guy who actually became diablo in Diablo 2 be classified as big retard because of what he did in Diablo 1?
Ok I got the stone, what to do with it. I know I ram it in to my skull before talking to Cain.

Somehow I don't think Blizzard were really focussed on consistent characters and the like when making the game.

I mean, who on earth plays a Diablo game for the story characters?
Well, after Blizzard took away all the RPG elements...what else is left but the story?

But yeah, Leah is stupid.

To tell the truth, I had no f-ing clue what was going on in Diablo 2. Following this guy Deckard Cain around and an angel and fighting some bad guys until you got to hell and killed Diablo. I never finished the expansion pack.

At least I knew what was going on this time.
