Maybe it's too early to say this but the more I see of Diablo 3, the less enthusiastic I get. Many games such as Dragon Age: Origins have claimed to be "dark fantasy" but it's been so long since we got one that actually was, rather than just being regular fantasy with a coat of brown paint. I'd been hoping that Diablo 3 would bring back the series dark atmosphere and epic storyline and show everyone how it's done, but it's not looking to be the case. I'm not just talking about the increase in colour either. The subject matter has taken a turn from grim to silly. For example, take this cutscene from Diablo 2...

And compare it to this:

The gameplay looks alright, I'll admit, but they've made a lot of changes that hardly seem necessary, especially when they already perfected the Hack-Slash-and-Loot system 10 years prior.

Overall, I'm not too enthusiastic about this third installment, and it seems unlikely that Blizzard is going to turn things around. I feel like they sort of lost their soul to WoW, especially since D3 looks more like WoW than Diablo (aesthetically at least.)

All I can say is that they sure don't make em' like they used to.

Are you looking forward to Diablo 3, or do you feel the same way I do?

Blizzard have taken to heart "Dont fix what isnt broke" a little bit to seriously. They see that just upgrading it, adding a few touches and boom a sequal true to the orignal. When infact they make no new ground and dont inspire anything new. Starcraft 2 (althought ye is a truly amazing game) is not much different from SC1. It's what blizzard seems to be doing now.

I have Sacred 2 on PS3 and PC. I have yet to see anything that warrants me buying D3 - Especially with me having to have a net connection for Blizz net

Diablo 3 is more about making a single player WoW primer than a actual third diablo game. Rather than strip away the sharp edges (inventory tetris, even if I liked it) and increase complexity (more abilities, more skills, more equipment, more characters, maybe a dash of non-linearity for flavor, all balanced), they're just repackaging WoW.

As for an actual third diablo game, pretty sure borderlands is the closest we'll get... but they forgot to include a story. Instead its just "wacky" humor. Even though they already have a pretty perfect story lined up for them (its the "borderlands" of this dimension, the vault isn't a prison, its a gateway opened and very shoddily resealed by the eridians. Being on the same planet is enough alter the way people's minds and circuitry work. Claptraps are programmed to be insane in effort to dodge the influence from the weakened dimensional border, so 4NG31 can maintain the planet a bit, etc), but they don't seem to be willing to do anything with it.

Your all seem to class Blizzard as a person.. It's not, It's a collection of people.. different teams work on different projects, each with different goals and idea, They arent just guna take the team that made wow to make Diablo.

That video is so old though. The entire aesthetic has changed since that was released.

No one is saying Tigole is going to be head of design, but when one thing is massively successful, it bleeds through to the rest of a house's projects.

I tried being interested in this game, but to me Blizzard isn't really the company it once was, not to mention that I'm expecting Half-Life 2 Episode 3 (Which I don't really care about either) to be out before Diablo 3.

You probably shouldn't make assumptions by comparing a cinematic trailer to a gameplay-character trailer thing.
And I'm sure Blizzard is sorry that a location that you have no knowledge of isn't grim and slimy but a desert...like Act 2.

Yeah, I agree with you there, it doesn't feel like diablo anymore with the direction they went with the graphics.

Though I'm hoping they make up for that in gameplay and storyline.

I've always loved the end of that video. The big army comes out and the barbarian does a shout, then just kinda effortlessly swings around as you hear things go "tshg". He seems like he doesn't really care that he's surrounded.

OT: No matter what Diablo turns in to, I'll give is a try. The only way I can truly say wether or not I approve of the changes is to wait and play it.

Glad you could compare a fully-finished Cinematic to the Expansion of a very colorful game(D2) to a class intro that has nothing to do with anything much other than the Monk is one bad mother trucker.

We'll see how they turn the "regular" world darker when they release the game and we see the progression into madness like Marius went through.

Anyway, you could say it's all rainbows and unicorns now, but I'd say it's looking good for being maybe 50% done.

One thing we can be sure about is, it will have a Beta.. So of course for the lucky few who do get a beat code. They can find out what the game has changed into.

So yeah, they've said a thousand times the current footage is in the early "chapters" when things are not so corrupted and everything still looks sort of green and pretty. I think its gonna be a great game (if they do it right by the later chapters). Although we are gonna get a torchlight 2 before then. So yeah, i'm sort of becoming more of a fan of torchlight with cool fast, and semi-cheap (price, not quality wise) releases.

Diablo still looks cool, but it was like the best (and only) ten years ago, now its just "one more game" IMO.

I think it looks good, then again I never played either of the other two Diablos. I don't really know much about the other two, so I don't know how much Blizz has changed. I will agree though that they seem to just make minor changes to games and call it a brand new game.

I am really not looking forward to this. As the OP said, It's beginning to look a lot like WoW which is something that I really don't want to pay money for.

My point stands.

My problem isn't with the desert setting, the graphics, or even the animation. My problem is how campy the trailer is. It's like something out of a bad kung-fu movie.
