Funny you say that because I know quite a few pc gamers that won't play a game if it's not "pretty". It makes me want to punch them...
yeah, I know about them too
shit's frustrating
Those people are just as annoying as the people who go on about how their choice of console is easy, cheap, and low maintenance then whine about how their game doesn't look good. Wasn't there this whole thing where people whined about how an Alan Wake texture on a car roof was low res? That's stupid.

in my opinion
if they want good realistic graphics, why don't they just go watch a live action movie

games are supposed to be played, too much graphics and low emphasis on gameplay ruins the game

case in point: X-blades and Bionic Commando

Good for DICE...I still find it insulting that they don't say anything about the single player experience...if it comes up short this game isn't for me either.
Well, Battlefield (especially the PC ones) have always been multiplayer-focused. Since this is a return to form for them, it makes sense that they're talking primarily about multiplayer.

I'm perfectly fine with this compromise, they've made the right choice. I can definitely deal with 24 players, not a biggie. Still a lot of people to run, gun, and grenade with.

That's pretty disappointing. I would get BF 3 for the PC, but firstly, everyone I usually play with plays on the Xbox and secondly, my pc would run it, but not do it justice. 24 players seems a bit small to me.

MAG supports 256 players.

Bullshit. Someone is not too good with console programming?

As mentioned earlier in this thread, MAG supports 256 players because it uses dedicated servers. Current gen consoles are nowhere near capable of supporting that many players P2P.

..and P2P is generally a poor choice. Only dedicated servers provide proper FPS competitive experience.

So the same as Battlefield 2 then, so nothing to see here, keep moving.....

To be honest I expected the list of differences to be a longer than just the amount of players each platform can deal with.

I was worried when I saw this thread, then I read the compromises.

Who cares? Us console gamers have had less than 24 players for most games so this is an improvement!

All the console BF games have used Dedicated servers....

That's actually a pretty significant difference from a processing power standpoint. Each additional player has a whole list of things that need to be individually rendered and calculated. That kind of thing adds up and consoles don't have that much power to spare.

The way MAG did it was different though. As far as I'm aware, they run the game much like an MMO would be run, putting almost all of the processing strain on the servers and using clever little things to separate the player population to keep any one area from having more than a console could handle. To keep servers like that running is expensive and usually costs players a subscription fee, not to mention that the game would have to be designed from the ground up to support such a system.

What I got from those quotes was:
Game looks worse = not as fun

Excuse me, but if the battlefield is about teamwork, reducing the team numbers is "dumbing down" the game at it's very roots.

So now either or it is crap, I'm happy because if EA uses punkbuster I ain't buying it on PC.

Well done DICE! To customize the game for each platform is perhaps more resource intensive, but ultimately it also ensures a greater amount of goodwill.
