Since this was done on BC2 I'm not too bothered. And since snipers have been nerfed to high hell now, I think it might be worth a buy...not for story mind, that's just S.S.D.G.

And Xyphon, can I assume you only play Rush mode on BFBC2? It might just be moi, but Conquest mode doesn't feel as linear as Rush does.

Also, looking at trailers, etc. I'm starting to think BF3 is just BF2 with boomy on the buildings...
No, I play conquest. I had my fill of Rush during the beta.

I'm not saying they ARE linear, I'm saying they FEEL that way to me.

For instance, if I wanted to, I could swim around the entire island, effectively bypassing everyone and attack from virtually anywhere in 1943.

In BC 2 playing Heavy Metal, the biggest map in the game, it feels like you're still going in a straight line. You can only hoof it over a certain portion of the mountain before you hit the boundry line. Because the map is still effectively one line, you can only come in from a single direction.

This makes me sad.

Not because the decision was dumb, but because now the game looks like it might actually be lots of fun on the PC which sucks because I have already decided not to buy any EA games for the PC so long as EA tries to shove this piece of shit thing called Origin down my throat.
Retail copies are your friend.

I never understood the sudden resistance to retail copies. The only thing Steam offers that is any better than driving to the store is sales. Outside of that, after buying the game, you have to then wait hours on end for it download. You know, far longer than it would've taken to drive to the store, buy the disc and just install it.

OT: Why are some people acting shocked? This is the same if not more players than you've gotten in recent CoD iterations on consoles.
That is not true for everyone.

I got 100/100mbits internet which actually makes it faster for me to buy something on steam and download it, then going to a shop.

After a long BFBC2 session mate, I can kind of see where you're coming from. There really aren't a whole lot of ways to rush some of these maps, which seems to become more apparent when you're on a low-populated server or a high-ticket server (not sure if it was legal, but I once played on a 250 ticket infantry only server). Still, I'm not sure if I even need to buy BF3; I have the complete BF2 collection and I know I can get the game to recognise the HOTAS getup my mate lent me today. Here comes the whirlybird, soon as I can get punkbuster to work.

Now I find myself wishing my DVD drive didn't shrapnel my 1943 disc...

If MAG can have up to 256 players in the same game on a PS3, and Battlefield games sell on the promise of their large-scale multiplayer (something which they helped to INVENT), then I don't see why the developers didn't focus on, I dunno, lowering graphical quality to make room for additional players?

But nah, they're scared of people whining about texture differences.
Pretty much. But then, why would they downgrade the visuals and do 256 player maps if MAG already has those?

At least here, they're doing (comparatively) large-scale battles with prettier graphics, which at least isn't just a cloned MAG.

Can't tell if trolling or fanboy.

OT: I didn't really expect anything different. There's no way the xbox/ps3 could handle it if the developers themselves claim that the computer that can run the game on max settings doesn't exist yet. Even though I've already pre-ordered for the PC, it'll be interesting to see how the console versions turn out.
