In a action that I can only describe as Bungie level community interaction, Gustav Halling of DICE tweeted the following:

http://twitter.com/#!/gustavhalling/status/78029240041345026

"Did you notice the dinosaur in our E3 #Bf3 demo? =) http://i.imgur.com/xkvwS.png #just4fun"

This linked to the following image:

As you can imagine, 4chan is now ecstatic [http://boards.4chan.org/v/res/97893275] (NSFW, of course)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Long story short:

- person from activision (supposedly) posts on /v/, asking why /v/ despised call of duty so much, and what they could do to improve it;

- /v/ replies by asking for dinosaurs.

- DICE see's this, and puts a toy dinosaur in the e3 trailer.

- DICE tweets a image of said 4chan thread and the dinosaur

- 4chan goes nuts.

That is absolutely hilarious.

Excellent marketing and all, but I just love the fact that this sort of thing happens.

Can you call it derailing a thread when it was never 'on' the rails to begin with?

Absolutely incredible. I don't even play Battlefield but the inclusion of dinosaurs will definitely gain my interest.

I would have loved to have seen that staff meeting.

"Now in last weeks agenda we agreed you'd conduct market research to improve the battlefield franchise. What did you find"
"We need dinosaurs"
"... err"
"Literally not kidding"
"You should probably leave"
"Already packed up my desk"

They have focused on copying Call of Duty in every way that makes Battlefield not be Battlefield for this game and even in their trailers they can't take their eyes away from Call of Duty.

Hooray for small multiplayer maps and a linear campaign. At least they can make a joke about the one difference from CoD they have shown so far.

So good. I want this game now. I'll be driving a tank in the ocean, and then BAM! Pterodactyl will run up and bite my treads off then swim away. Crazy.

I have a feeling this will take after it's predecessors and include huge multi-player maps like in Battlefield 2. Also, am I the only person who likes linear single player in my fps's? I dunno, I feel the two just work well together.

Yep.

More devs need to interact with their consumers and fanbase like this.

I'm adding DICE to the my list of devolpers who listen to their fans.... Bungie, Gearbox, Valve... and Dice.

The battlefield gameplay was so beautiful anyway, after watching it the COD graphics just looked bad.
I don't normally buy fps's but I will definitely buy this.

Please don't insult what they did. This was very nice of them and we want them to do more of this stuff in the future. Calling them dicks for fan service? Uncalled for.

Well, if you think 64 players is small ...

Don't forget Ubisoft, Assassin's Creed 2 was basically the result of everyone being gathered round a big table and told "This is a list of everything people hated about AC1. FIX IT!" and what resulted is probably my favorite single game of all time.

Also Bioware (although some may argue that they listened to the feedback from ME1 a little too well)

OT: Wow, DICE will even try and please 4CHAN!?!? They really must need the money...
