I can get through the game with 0 kills and 6 KOs, tops. Every time you say "Mirror's Edge forces you to do combat", a kitten is killed with a sledgehammer.
OT: NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED. NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED.
JUST START PUMPING IT DIRECTLY INTO MY VEEEEEEEEEEEEEIIIIIIIINS.
I didn't say that it "Forces you to do combat", I said it constantly insists on it, putting you in situations that are just kind of absurd. Also, I didn't kill anyone and directly avoid it. I accidentally knocked someone off a building once.. I haven't even fired a gun because I think it's stupid that you can even acquire them.
Anyway, they call the non-lethal takedowns "combat" in the game, so I was using their term.
I don't think they should avoid it completely in the next one, but I think it needs to be refined and made a little more sensible. The game shines when you're actually on the run. It really pumps up the atmosphere, and you only have to deal with someone in your way a few times. When it gets silly is when they're like.. Okay, now go into this warehouse full of bad guys, directly into it.
They also need to improve the "combat" animations, so you don't wait for the "red flash". It should be immediately after you stun them or catch them off-guard that you can disarm them, regardless if there is a flash or not. Relying on your ability to remain fluid and fast, nothing more. You don't stand directly in front of them, wait for them to stop shooting and then make a canned-animation butt stroke that you have to counter. Why can't I just kick the gun out of his hands after I knocked him to the ground? Why can't I yank the gun away while he is keeled over huffing air after a punch to the nuts?
All in all, I feel like the over-prevelance of combat interrupts the flow of the game.
