defintiely suspicious. my father had stopped at a drive thru in a bad part of a city he was in, and i guy came over and tried to get him to get out and look at a "home theatre system" in the back of his van, selling it cheap. my dad continually refused, and the guy reached in the window trying to pull the latch on the door open. my dad just grabbed his arm and slammed on the gas.

obviously, people soliciting home theatre systems from the backs of vans in parking lots are not to be trusted.

No, you did the right thing (provided you didn't use 911-that's only for real emergencies). You should be proud of yourself

A few years ago I was offered on numerous occasions a Sony Vaio laptop from a guy (or pair of guys) just driving around in East London.

Was creepy as hell, and I had the same reaction you did, so no you didn't overreact.
