I am liking this topic. People just making fun and laughing at the stereotypes of classical fantasy (token races, guys steroided to oblivion, ultra fan-service).

Maybe that is the intention of the game. Friends killing and looting shit; laughing at the absurdity of it all. Classical brawlers were always like this.

That was the point of this game. That was ALWAYS the point of this game.

You know what I love about this game: It's helping people to question things once again! I missed times like these. Now, one thing that really shocks me is the fact that people are questioning the game, first, because of how the art style of the female characters is so absurd. Well, we had two games with Joe Madureira in the head of the art team. We had Soul Calibur games since the Dreamcast, we had DOA an Ninja Gaiden. But now, now it's extreme? OK. About the races, well, I think that's western pop culture fault. Orcs Must Die had a Warrior, a Elf and a Dwarf as guardians. And their roles? Big human guardian is a warrior, slim, tall elf is an archer, small dwarf carry bombs and a hammer. Dragon Age? Dwarves can't use magic. Hell, Witcher follows the same route! So, they used a shortcut: Human can be other things, elves are slim archers, dwarves are made of hammers, bombs and beards!
If that is bad, if that is strange, if that is not funny, this is just how the pop culture works. That needs to change first.

Shit, everyone knows by now that the game tries to ape on past tropes and stereotypes, and people STILL complain/make hee-larrious jokes about how racist and sexist it is.

This just in guys! The well-known mystery novel Ten Little Niggers had a RACIST TITLE!

Do we judge by appearances, or by intention? You might say intention is hard to discern, but it's blindingly obvious that the devs were very aware of what they were doing here.
Evidently you're taking this about 100% more seriously than any rational person should, but I'm fascinated by the idea that knowingly making something sexist/racist somehow excuses the fact it's sexist/racist.

I bet a dwarf raised by elves would act like an elf.

and how would that Elf act, MR. RACIST?

Wow. Now Dragon's Crown is racist. Guess I'll go get my popcorn...

Anyway, sometimes it really feels like people are eagerly looking for little details to complain about in games. That's not really a problem when you're (supposedly) just making fun of it, but then there are those that just have to consider it a big deal.
Personally, I'm kind of happy about it. First of all, it distracts from the boobage discussion. Second of all, it reinforces the idea that the designers were just lovingly drawing from traditional fantasy commonalities. I remember seeing the exact same apparent racism in Dungeons and Dragons: Shadow Over Mystara. Since there aren't any elves or dwarves to complain about it, we just accept it.

But I am a "white dude". What do I have to fear from combating people in verbal debate who are trying to defend me?
Would they not just let me win/help me win the argument? ;D

When has an elf in a fantasy world had a profession anything other than the one who kills things with arrows? Same goes with the dwarf and axeing stuff into oblivion.
You might want to look up R. A. Salvatore's dark elf Drizzt Do'Urden. He is proficient with a bow, but his main mastery is that with a sword, such as scimitars. Though, if you do read his history, you'll come to know he is the youngest son of a weapon master. So he is proficient with most weapons and tactics.

OT: I remember Golden Axe so well. The human warrior was the physical damage dealer, the female warrior had the strongest magic attack and the dwarf was a decent all-around axe wielding badass. Too bad everything's become so...sooooooo...

Childish? Dunno if that's the right word to use but, if it isn't, it comes close.

I don't get it. I haven't played the game but isn't the dwarf another warrior and the elf the typical... dunno... ranged warrior, or rogue?

Good point. Has anyone addressed the horrifying racism in this game before now?
Enlighten me. Why is it racist? Because it can't be the dwarf who is doing magic?
Dude, it's because the rest of the characters are identified by their profession, not their race.
Exactly.

They should be called The Archer and The Berserker. But instead they went racist.
Archer I get, but we already have the Assazon...er Amazon for Berserker. Dwarf should have been The Grappler.

Actually [http://www.cracked.com/blog/5-popular-jokes-that-only-make-people-want-to-punch-you/] Dragon's Crown isn't racist at all ... it's just anthropocentric.

I'm actually kind'a disappointed we have a wizard and an amazon. I would have thought a better roster would have been a cleric and a thief/rogue, maybe even a paladin instead of the Fighter.

Amazon, Fighter and Dwarf are all just redundant versions of each other. The elf is at least a hybrid.
Wait, I thought the Fighter (Armored dude with an inexplicably tiny head) was really a Paladin? Although in a large sense, in that game ALL the PC's are fighters, it's how they do it that sets them apart. The Elf shoots things with her bow ('cause that's how elves do) and the Dwarf chops stuff with his Axe. Wait again, the Amazon's weapon's a Poleaxe. I gotta figure out the logistics of this.

So, Fighter, Sorceress, Wizard... Elf and Dwarf. Well, the game was made by Humans, and seeing the way they treat women, they have a lot of issues to work through!

...I don't get it. I should care about racism towards mythical races that don't actually exist, because...?
I honestly don't see this as a racism issue. I think this fall more one the lines of cliche tropes and concepts withing the so called "fantasy" genre.

To be fair, it would be too much for video game makers to be making points on a matter so... Idk... so meta. In literary circles the subject has been approached with more focus but remember that literature is a medium with hundreds of years of history, development and academic study behind it... video games are not.

The stereo type of the warrior - mage - priest and the elf - dwarf - orc will, some day, be debated as video game makers start challenging the "traditional" take on the "fantasy" genre in games.

The funniest thing about this comic is the fighters body. Honestly, it looks like someone attached a melon to King Kong's shoulders.

I can't handle all the political correctness! I need to just stop opening anything that has anything to do with Dragon's Crown.
