Let me ask another question. Lets say, for a moment, that I'm right, and that these vtubers are sex workers.

Why does everyone assume that that's a bad thing, or an insult?
It does not matter if you're right or not. You or I don't know their daily lives or trials they go through. It comes off as an insult, because you are assuming you know everything about them and only have vague surface level, wild mass guessing theories based off of nothing, but your wild imagination. fOx, I know you have your little special hate boner for thing anime, but quit trying to act like a know-it-all, because you don't know dick. And odds are the people doing these, don't give a shit about your asinine opinion either. If you can't figure that out, than you must be that oblivious. I have nothing left to say.

Oh, I'd say he knows dick quite well.

What happened to not assuming to know people?

fOx knows some stuff, but he acts like he knows everything. But guess what?, I am ending this conversation here, because I am not derailing this thread making it about someone else who has no business being on it in the first place. Do not bother carrying this discussion on private messaging as I will ignore it. I don't care how you or fOx feel about that.

lol, bro, how is it incel shit? I admire the hustle. If these women can make money by pandering to silly "nice guy" otaku, while making it with their normal, socially well adjusted himbo boyfriends, then good for them.

My criticism is for the people who say that their view of women was rescued by a group of women who specifically make their living by pandering to masses of otaku homebodies. Like, of course their nice, it's how they make a living.
While not a big fan of them (as in watching them regularly or really much) I can see the appeal particularly with some of them in the whole them being a character not real way. Like yeh some women Twitch streamers who spend all day in just chatting pretending to be there for the donors or there to listen or whatever as they do Yoga without a sports bra on under their top. But I think it kind of deserves more credit to create some insane persona like being a literal demon or a shark girl or an AI on a space station and keep the act running without dropping character much.

I mean they could just sit on webcam chatting and watching youtube video like some on Twitch do and collect money from the thirsty people but they at least try to put on a show instead.

seriously, it's like some people's only experiance with women is getting angry at internet feminists.
Actually they're funny to deal with normally and often easily dealt with by sending pictures of Red Sonja to them until they rage quit and leave you alone.

There's something creepy about this. It reminds me of ASMR where the speaker is one second away from slitting my throat. I look at that little cat girl thing and expect she's standing right behind me with my dog's severed head, or she's about to crawl through my monitor.

I mean, you realize these women are just pandering to anime otaku, before getting railed by some hung 22 year old football star. They don't actually care about their audience, and honestly, they probably have a completely different personality in real life. I wouldn't base your faith in women, or lack thereof, on jack off material and smut.
Let me ask another question. Lets say, for a moment, that I'm right, and that these vtubers are sex workers.

I feel like I've found the problem here. You lot are so sex negative, that any statement connected to people enjoying sex is seen as some kind of innate insult. This seems like a uniquely American perspective.

There is nothing wrong with a person enjoying an active sexual life. Quite the opposite, it is healthy and normal, as long as everyone consents.
I love that these comments are in the SAME thread. You start your involvement in this entire thread, basically shaming the OP being interested in these vtubers, declaring all of them as being just out for otaku cuck money, while "banging a football player", and then turn around and try and accuse the rest of the thread of being "sex negative", while declaring the vtubers content to be nothing but jack off material and smut.

Is it still against the site rules to refer to someone as that thing that lives under a bridge and just comes out to be an annoyance to people? Because holy shit is this such a GLARING example of internet "that thing that lives under a bridge and just comes out to be an annoyance to people" behavior.

I actually find the fact that you use mulder as your avatar very fitting, because that character is an obnoxious shitbag.

Let's be real, none of you would have given a shit if not for the anime avatars.
I mean it got my attention yeah, because I'm used to it being real people down in that corner. The first time I saw something like this it was labeled "an A.I. plays video games" and the whole premise of their show being that it's an actual "A.I" (it's not of course, but that's her character for the show), experiencing the world through video games and social media. And frankly, yeah it can be pretty funny.

I also watch a lot of let's players who don't show their faces on camera at all, so I think the idea that none of us would give a shit otherwise is a bit off. If someone like nyanners wasn't on screen, but still behaved like she does, I'd probably watch it as much as I do now, which is occasionally I'll click on one, watch for a few minutes, and then go to something else. I can't really watch any livestream game sessions from start to finish without getting bored personally, though a few of them I've been able to stick through it.

I mostly find them interesting for the cultural confusion with pronunciation, meaning, etc, as well as watching the mocap software make their faces go quite bizarre when they do stuff.

To be fair I don’t think many of the Vtubers in question would be making content at all if not for the anime avatars due to how sourly female streamers tend to get treated.

That depends on the Streamer I'd say.

Never watched a vtuber for more than a minute, so I may be talking absolute nonsense. I dislike that cheap Live2d animation you see in mobile games. The performative aspect is limited to how many expressions your facerig has. It adds something, but it's still a gimmick.

Then there's the fact that none them are genuine people. These are performers playing a fictional character with fictional personality traits written for a specific demographic. I doubt the rise of vtubers was from natural growth and genuine user created content, but from big advertising dollars from talent agencies. This is idol territory, and I have a low opinion of the idol industry.

I don't have any issue with porn or sex work. Or liking those things. I very specifically criticized the idea that vtubers somehow reinvigerated someone's view of women. Implying that they had a negative view of women before. But because some women pandered to him in return for money, now he has a positive view of women.

My criticism is very specific, and yet all of you keep trying to reframe my statements in order to make them easier to argue against.

Also, mulder has hot man buns, accept it.

I dunno the view they want to entertain rather than taking the easier route could be seen as restoring some peoples faith. It's possibly about percentages where a number of prominent female streamers were happy to do the bare minimum and live off simps then suddenly in come Vtubers and the perception is "Ah there are people really wanting to play games and entertain still who can also find success."

I don't think you've actually watched any of them and are basing all this off of assumptions.

This is the channel of one of Hololive's talents, Ninomae Ina'nis. She has a whole Cthulhu theme to her but right from the get go from her debut she's had absolutely no character outside of making jokes. As an example.

It's just a drawing stream with her talking about things. Just as with people, everyone is different and everyone does things differently. Different people will lean harder into their character than others or even not at all. You're doing the same thing as f0x, "It's women streaming therefore they must be harlots trying to seduce men into giving them money because they can't actually have any talent in anything if they're using anime avatars (THE HORROR)! You guys are so sexist for participating in this. These women should shut up an go back to the kitchen while men continue to do these things."

Like... Do I have to pull out my entire fucking subscription list of people that show or don't show their faces that are men and women and have done this same shit for YEARS without people talking about that like this?

For you @Bartholen and those that enjoy vtubers. Something keep you all happy and in a good or better mood.

Yes, that's Calli, she's the one I talked about earlier that hit the top of the rap charts a while back.

Personally, I'm very much a "whatever makes you happy" type of guy, so it's nice that you found a stress reliever (especially for this year because, holy shit...). I don't really have a problem with vtubers in general either, outside of them being very much in the uncanny valley for me. The lip sync is just...not good, and they also tend to make the default expression an open o-face, which is a little weird. I would actually prefer if they just went to more pronounced mouth flapping when they talked, because even if it doesn't really match up, it could still be funny in a reverse American dub of Godzilla type way.
