It'll most likely be how Lucas originally planned it, continuing on after the destruction of the Death Star II. However, because they'll try and make it family friendly, they'll most likely take out some of the great things, like the entire story of the Lusankya.

In my opinion, this could at worst make no difference. At best, it could improve things.

Reactions to this news have been pretty extreme, with some saying it's a great thing and other saying it's a terrible thing.
Really, it could go either way- the new movies could be an improvement on the prequels, or they could possibly end up worse. It really all depends on the quality of the film-makers that get involved, so I'd say don't get either too excited or too distressed just yet.
That said, if M. Night Shyamalan is announced to direct Star Wars 7, then the shit has my permission to hit the fan.

This cannot be a bad thing. New Star Wars material hasn't filled me with "Oooo, more Star Wars!" delight in over a decade. Hence, if George announced a new Star Wars 7, or new tv show or something, I'd have absolutely zero hope or anticipation for it. If it was the mess I was expecting, .... actually, this was on the page that led me here, just refer to this:

You see, I can imagine George ignoring all the bile directed at his prequels and edits (for the most part, not undeserved). That's a fact, he continues to edit them even despite how cold a reception they get.

That's either dedicated, but misguided, artistic expression, trying to create a vision that only he seems to be enthused about; a business model to sell the same product again and again with little effort; or a evil, sadistic (and successful) troll, for feeding off the hate of others.

The idea that the property is going to someone else's hands, most likely a team of people under instructions to brainstorm how to sell Star Wars again, well, surely that's only good news for the franchise. After all, I'm sure someone on that team has looked at Star Wars on the internet in the last decade or so and can put the idea that, "Hey, looks like those prequels weren't liked very much. We should figure out why so we can get more people to watch our movie." And if anyone there is interested in the idea of selling to the huge potential but embittered fanbase, they'll be trying to reel them back in with a quality movie. I'm not excited per say, but there is a lot of curiosity, and perhaps even a glimmer of (a new) hope. Am I the first to make that joke? :D

Then again, as some people pointed out, there is "Disneyfication", I think there was another famous franchise that merged with Disney not so long ago. What happened to that Avengers thing anyway? Violence free kiddy-stuff and Mickey Mouse ears from start to finish, right?

ZOMG! STAR WARS HAS BEEN DEAAAADDD!!! DAMN YOU LUCAS!!!!1111!!!!1!!ONE! HAN SHOT FIRST!

You have heard of something called the Expanded Universe? New Jedi Order? Yuzan Vhong war? Empire of the Hand? Darth Plagueis? Ben Solo? Dark Forces: Jedi Knight II: Jei Outcast? Star Wars: Bounty Hunter? Darth Bane? Legacy Era? The surprisingly kick ass TV show? Those things? Its not just the movies and games, ya know...

Han never "Shot First". In the original cut, Greedo Never shot.
I have indeed heard about the EU and read and played too much of its utter drivel. I've taken the liberty to cross out the stuff in your list that isn't worth spending time on.

Here I will now list the Star Wars stuff that's actually any good:

Dark Forces 1+2
TIE Fighter
The Thrawn Trilogy
X-Wing Alliance

Edit: I forgot Knights of The old Republic II

Disneyland belongs to The Empire now!

Quite cute. I've named the Stormtrooper with the drink Snippy and the one with the churo Dan.

I think it's in good hands, I trust Disney. After the mismanagement of the franchise in general, now's the chance for it to make a comeback, to develop a focus in its material. Hopefully this will result in a better quality. Except for what it intends to do with Lucas Arts - to invest more heavily in social and mobile gaming... it will likely change its mind once it gets a better grasp on the portfolio.

The only thing i'm worried about is Disney making episode 7 or any of the future games relating to Star Wars 'kiddie' like. As in, toning down the violence, the disturbing reality of things, and some gore if not any wounds laid down. Instead they may bring in musical scenes with singing, have the camera shift if something happens where they don't want kids to see anything 'bad' and so forth.

So... I still don't know what to make of this.

On the one hand, Lucas wasn't exactly helping out Star Wars, between awful to ok movies, to approving every single book as canon (regardless of whether or not it contradicted existing canon), to effectively making the whole sequence of events in the movies pointless by making the whole Republic vs Empire thing an endless cycle.

On the other hand, Disney planning to make 3 to infinity movies doesn't fill me with a great deal of hope.

Overall... at least Lucas will leave the old movies alone?

will they go into new territories in a far distant future, a sort of reverse-kotor?
that is my (new) hope. it would give them the freedom to create a brand new story arc with out being tied to the main films while still having everything star wars in it

one good thing about this is that, due to Lucas not being involved anymore, you might finally bet a blue ray of the star wars that you used to know

How was there no news of some people dressed like Darth Vader and some Storm Troopers walking around with camera recording them?

Disney put this out themselves. It wasn't just some fans who did it. How could they get a high quality camera into the park anyhow.

No one cared or noticed that Disney was recording a video of Darth Vader getting popcorn? I mean it makes sense that it would be recorded before the announcement of the buyout. Just seems like the internet would have jumped all over these strange sightings in Disneyland is what I'm saying.

Disney owns Lucas. Disney owns Marvel.
