This is why I'm dl/buying as much nostalgic TV shows/movies from my youth as possible. Whenever my kid wants to watch TV, I'll just pop in the disc, hell, I'll even throw in commercials to make it seem realistic.

However, I have seen some really funny episodes of Chowder.
Like when they spend all of Grandma's (or whoever's in charge) money and run out of money to even budget the cartoon itself. It cuts to the actual actors in the recording studio screaming in horror as they realize they have to work for money now. Then there's a montage of them doing a carwash to raise enough funds. At the end of the episode they get the cartoon back up and running with their money but are caught anyway by Grandma.
I laughed.

Hahahahaha "the experiences of my youth are superior to the experiences of the current youth" - just consider how adult your perspective is, before ye judge :p

Kids these days, eh?

I don't think childrens' programs are crap. At the very most, I think that technology is more accessible and there is more demand for more shows, so essentially children and parents need to be more selective in what they watch.

You could argue that 'back in the day' when animation was some kind of mystical art that few people knew and cartooning was srs bsness, the quality was higher because there was nothing to compare it to. But then again, there are some horrible, horrible cartoons no matter what time period you look up - so it's just a matter of perspective.

Personally, the only thing I dislike about modern day cartoons versus the older ones I watched is that the modern ones seem so angular and minimally detailed. It's just the current style I suppose, but I like my 80s/90s detail and non CGI-ness :D

Kids these days don't know quality. You could argue that times change, but then you'd be admitting that you've never seen this shit.

Most common joke:
"Oh hey we need to get some CHICKS!"
"Yeah but my mom grounded me for (insert stupid act of vandalism)"
*laugh track*
that is the ONLY FUCKING JOKE.
That's a joke? Coulda fooled me.

The only redeeming shows on the Disney Channel these days are Phineas and Ferb (watch that show for 10 minutes, you'd be amazed how addictive it is) Kim Possible (DON'T JUDGE ME!!!) and American Dragon: Jake Long.

For everyone to know, I'm 23.

But Adult Swim has mostly crap these days anyway. Squidbillies, Mighty Boosh, FUCKING ANYTHING WITH TIM AND ERIC, Drinky Crow... whatever happened to good shows like Outlaw Star or Witch Hunter Robin?
I will have to disagree with you on The Mighty Boosh, I've been a fan since their Radio 4 show. Though I accept the sense of humour isn't for everyone... maybe it doesn't translate well across the Atlantic...

I used to love Disney... The brilliant movies, the laugh out loud shows, the stereotypical characters... Now it's just the last one. Did anyone ever see the show Fillmore? That was a INGENIOUSLY written show. I'm not exaggerating, the jokes and the plot worked on every level and that's the peak of Disney. Now... Hannah Montana? Wizards of Waverly Place? TT__TT
I did watch Fillmore. It might not have been as "epic" as you make it sound, but it was a great show. Fillmore is a clear example that Disney was MUCH better with their animation than their live-action crap.

This just in:

All kids are fucking idiots, I was an idiot, you were an idiot. There are no exceptions to this rule. If your sitting there thinking "I wasn't an idiot I was really mature as a kid" your an even bigger idiot as you missed out on the idiocy of being a kid.

Thus making it so when you grow out of the idiot stage and go into the know it all stage you look at the kids today and complain. Yes their comedy is shit but it's just as shit as ours was when we where kids.

Sorry if any of this came across as offensive but it's the truth.
It is the truth but at least we were less of idiots then the kids today
As told by the know it alls. I'm joking, of course.

Seriously have you ever thought about how stupid you were as a kid. No one really likes to admit it but I used to buy shit I saw in adverts and listen to some terrible music and judge a game based on it's back cover... Fuck I hated being a kid such a fucking twat.
Well when I was a kid, I never bought games (never had much money to my name, ever, but I rented games and always rented lots, I listened to good music, The Beatles, Beastie Boys, Doobie Brothers, whatever was on the radio when I was in the car, and I never bought anything in adverts cause you know, no money
Fair enough, you are pretty much exempt from being an idiotic kid. I didn't have much money but anything I got I spent straight away.
Actually I think when I got money (if ever) I probably spent it on comic books (single issues) every weekend my dad would take my brother and I to the local comic book store and we'd always get comics, Bone, Groo, Spider-Man, the usual

Disney does the same crappy stuff over and over and have been doing that for years, probably decades. So this isn't new news. I didn't watch Disney when I was a kid, I found Nick and CN far superior. Spongebob, Fairly Odd Parents and Ed, Edd n Eddy made my childhood.

My other, and bigger, problem with Disney is the way it destroys m sister's sense of pride and ambition. As a young girl, she wanted to be a dancer or songwriter. Little has changed to this day, except how she plans on going about her dream. As a little girl she was always trying to write her own stuff, and she dabbled constantly in various instruments like guitar and piano. She was hungry for the knowledge necessary to reach her lofty goal, but that is now gone. In imitation of her hero, Miley Cyrus, she has taken to dancing about in rather embarrassing clothing, doing nothing but covering "Best of Both Worlds" while whining about "that stupid piano she hates so much." My sister no longer wants to work hard and get better at what she does; she hopes to be picked up off the street by Disney, get hyped up whether she has talent or not, and then rake the profits and inevitable movie/TV show deals following.
The media in general does that to pretty much everyone.

The only show I can tolerate from disney every now and again is Phineas and Ferb. Only sometimes though, Dr. duphinsmertz or however you spell it makes that show pretty funny on occasion. If it wasn't for him I wouldn't watch it at all. On a semi related note WTF is the deal with all these stupid reality/sitcom type shows on nick, disney, and cartoon network? I'm 20 just for the record. Fillmore was a decent watch back when I lived in Florida. They don't show it where I live now.

My respect for Disney comes simply from the fact they are translating and releasing (very very well i might add) studio ghibli films.

My hatred stems from Hannah montanna and all that other crap i see dribbling from them...

Is it damaging to kids? Not really. the crap i watched as a kid isn't much better. Going back and watching some of those shows the only thing i can still stand is Alpha A 2o, which was just about comic books, movies and video games and Worst Witch. Pokemon is pretty stupid (now) as well and honestly i would be hard pressed they weren't trying to brainwash people. During the series EVERYONE at my school played it non stop. Everyone who had the cash owned the cards. Digimon... Well they tried really hard.... But no pokemons for them. Monster rancher... actually isn't that bad still...

I'm not fucked up... badly... Well not by anything I watched on tv. My parents made sure of that. Yeah the stuff i see come out of the disney channel makes my brain hurt but I'm not a dead eyed child (20) so... Its not really for me. As well some of there shows are okay.

Children affected by it will grow out of it if raised properly. Think of it as advanced Darwinism.

Disney used to be a good channel to watch, now it has a lot of...weird shows, I would even argue that they are more on the weird side of things then the Cartoon Network shows. Is it ruining the generation? I don't think so. We have lots of musicians and the internet for that. You figure half the worlds 11-14 year olds are on MySpace faking their age, learning about drugs and sex and alcohol. Disney doesn't have anything on that.
Hmm...

I don't know... that dancing elephants bit in Dumbo looked like how I'm told an acid trip looks like.

Don't really know about the other two though.

But I DO know that Disney has put up racial propaganda before. There was one cartoon (which they have done everything in their power... and obviously failed... to hide) that depicted two female centaurs. One was white and one was black. The white one was fair, and gentle, while the black one was drenched in stereotypes and was acting like a servant to the white centaur. Umm... try googling the words "evil disney" to see what I'm talking about.
I may have went a bit far there, but the internet and social networking websites are much worse then anything you can show on TV besides porn. Sad but it's true. I have read about that incident from Disney though, well it was 1 but it was still pretty substantial... I thought they were making shows that depicted good things these days? I haven't watched TV in a few days, but I'll take a couple hours to see what Disney shows. Whenever my cousins watch it, it's usually something about aliens, or high schoolers or sub human creatures on adventures. :/
Well if by "good" you mean "constantly telling the same bloody story which was pretty fucking samey to begin with making both Disney and this sentence competitors for a prize in Pointless Repetition"... or perhaps by "good" you mean "taking classic tales and myths and completely pillaging and raping them beyond all recognition". If that's what you meant by "good", then... yeah... I guess that word does fit Disney after all.

For an example of the latter, watch Disney's "Hercules" and then read the original myth. Both are vastly different, and in fact, have nothing to do with each other... and quite frankly what they did with Zeus, Hera, and the Titans is unforgivable.

For an example of the former, then watch any Disney film... that Disney actually made themselves... Pixar and Touchstone don't count. Anyway, watch one Disney film and compare it to... pretty much any other Disney film. Strip away the cosmetic differences, and every Disney film follows an almost identical plot.

This reminds me of a conversation I had with a friend a while back
I said something along the lines of: "Remember when Animaniacs was still airing?"
-my little brother walks up-
"Who?"

Saddening, I know. There's just too much garbage on TV nowadays.

I never really watched the Disney channel when I was a kid, but it is depressing to see Nickelodeon with a bunch of generic tween comedies, and that Cartoon Network has gotten so disconnected with itself that it actually has reality TV. Or at least it is when compared with what my generation had on these channels. Rugrats, Angry Beavers, Aaah!!! Real Monsters, Ren & Stimpy, Animaniacs, Dexters Lab, Johnny Bravo, Powerpuff Girls, and a whole bunch of others made up the golden age of children's programming. Kids these days aren't being given anywhere near the same quality as what we had.
