A play-by-post game here would be interesting, though I'd like a delay of two weeks for the same reason as Fenixius. We can use that delay to set the stuff up. Who's going to DM it?
Who indeed?

Hm. Your forum profile says you're in Australia, so if you're in GMT+8... then you're probably in the same city as me. Not a lot of people I know on the internet come from places in this state that aren't Perth. By which I mean I know one, and he lives in Perth now.

Anyway, a play-by-post would be interesting. I've not played a lot of DnD, but know how the D20 system works. We'd have to pick a good night to play... preferably after the exams I have in 2 weeks?
Ah, a fellow inhabitant of the most isolated city in the world. Are you taking uni or high school exams?

Now I can never get 4 edition because the best race is being taken out. GNOME DRUID 4 LIFE!
The monster manual will probably have rules for playing Gnomes as a PC race.
As far as Druids go... They are no more! My two favorite classes were taken out for 4th edition, and now I find myself remiss to upgrade.
But the trees, who will defend the trees!??!

They're not "taken out" they're just not base classes anymore, meaning we'll find them in PHB2 or other supplements. So we won't have the Druid, Bard, Sorcerer, or Barbarian right off the bat, but in another month or so. Things aren't "gone," just moved around a bit. I'm a huge Sorcerer fan myself, so I wasn't too happy at first when I discovered it wasn't in the PHB. However, they're tweaking the spellcasting ability for Sorcerers so they're more uncontrollable, more like wild mages, and I'm really not too sure how i feel about that, lol.

Does the updated Warlock seem too powerful to anyone else, or just me?
So all its all wizards, fighters, and rogues now? Great, an Oblivion clone...

The 8 Base Classes in the PHB (as far as I know) are:
Cleric
Fighter
Paladin
Ranger
Rogue
Wizard
Warlord
Warlock

Classes promised to be in supplemental books (and are therefore still available for use, just not as soon as the others):
Barbarian
Bard
Druid
Monk
Psions
Sorcerer
Swordmage

Here's where my information is coming from. [http://www.enworld.org/index.php?page=4e#rules]

Oh god, Psions. Really, they promised they'd still be in? Damn. Never did like 'em.

And that source is an interesting read. I'm actually getting pretty amped up about 4th.

Druids WILL still be a part of the game, but not in Players Handbook #1. They've promised that every class in the existing PH1 is going to be in 4th, but not all will be in 4th's PH1.

University. And since you're in this city with me, you might recognize the name, or possibly even go there, so I'll tell you that I'm at Curtin University of Technology.

Well, I know I'm not qualified to do it. Never DM'd before in my life. Only played as a PC once or twice, either. So while I'd have to register an expression of interest in a play-by-post, I couldn't volunteer to DM.

One of my good friends got his career in theater started because we made him try out for a play, he was so involved in his character/DMing

He was a great actor, fantastic DM. The mood was always set with him.

I hate DM's

always killing me for trying to break the game... or stab everyone in the back... or blow up the world...

if i cant be evil then its not worth playing!

"ok, so you've got the crystal, good job guys! man, that was intense" says the DM, after a battle with a dragon for the crystal we needed to complete this particular adventure.

"i throw it in the lava" Says Ultrajoes bluff-tastic archer

"ok, so we- ... ... what?"

"i take the crystal and chuck it in the lava"

"WHY?"

"im evil, i have to"

"but... but, its the only way to get into the (whatver it was, it was quite a while ago) and besides, your Good! it says so on your character sheet!"

"ive been lying, thats what makes me so evil"

"ill stop you!" says the fighter

"I convince you that it is for the greater good" says the uber-bluffing ultrajoe

"i fucking hate you"

And so the group was convinced that i should toss away the only way to save the world, i then go on to convince the goblin that what he really wants to do is set off a huge mother-fudging bomb.

Bluff is awesome. SO. DAMN. AWESOME.

They killed my character after that, now my ultra-bluffing bard sings merry songs and starts bar-fights while the rest do the actual adventure... or convincing the populace to hunt down my buddies... or bluffing my way into evil lairs and warning everyone.

Yeah, bluff rocks.

You'd be surprised how fun a rousing game of 'Dont let Ultrajoe Frak you over' is... until i pull out Splodey mcsplode

my gnome jihadist...

it goes like this, Splodey will spend all his resources building a damn huge bomb, and your job is to stop him! and if you choose not to play... then he plays anyway!! its like Counterstrike but instead of winning you just delay the inevitable!

All right, here's a list of things we need to get started with a PbP game:
1) A place to play it. We just need to agree on which one to use.
2) A DM. On the one hand, I would love to DM something like this; on the other hand, my schedule for the summer is a bit...broken. As in there's three weeks that I might not be able to access the Internet, and one week that I definately won't. So I probably shouldn't be the DM.

Have I missed anything?

I'm interested in a PbP game of whatever (As long as I have a chance to learn/relearn the rules somewhere along the line). I just hope I get to level up from drowning a Wizard's Familiar again... and I'm allowed to call my badger Tarquin. Again.

Well, there's this site that's already been recommended, called Myth Weavers.
http://www.myth-weavers.com/
I also remember Necroswanson offering to DM a game on the Order of the Stick- technically Ginat in the Playground- forums (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/). Maybe we could convince him to run our little shindig?
I don't think you've missed much else, Zemalac, except tangential stuff. Like, for example, how are we doing the rolls? Honour system? Some kind of randomiser the whole group can use at once? Other?

I would play if I could, but my friends never played and I couldn't exactly do it alone. Recently though we were gonna play Call of Cthulu(?) but I slept right through it because I was a bit sick.

Either of these sites looks good. Myth Weavers seems to have some attached generators, though.

As for rolls, isn't that mostly the DM's job? I realize that rolling for an attack is a good physical experience in the game, but it's not strictly nessecary that you roll the die yourself.

Giant in the Playground looks better to me. I'll volunteer to DM. I've only done it once, but everyone had a wonderful time. I'll bow out to anyone more enthusiastic, of course.

EDIT: I use http://www.d20srd.org/ for most of my needs. They have a die roller and encounter calculator, which is extremely handy.

Awesome. We have a DM.
As for the forum, unless we want a vote we should probably just go with GitP- since Lar has volunteered for DM we should be extra nice to her, plus I like the look better.
Oh, and can we agree to stick with, if not simply the base triad of books, then at least NOT psionics? Man, I hate them.

Agreed!! That way everyone will be on the same page.
