Do american's dislike canadians?

From what I gather, it seems to only be some sort of joking love/hate relationship, like a lot of the commonwealth countries have. I believe this trope is relevant:

Though, I will say I don't quite get the accent thing. Maybe its because im on the literal other side of the world, but I can't tell the difference between your (silly) accents. But hey, it could just be me. I couldn't tell you a New Zealander out from a crowd or anything.

Serious Face: I've been to Canada and everyone I met was friendly enough. I've got a friend in my weight lifting class who's Canadian and hes a pretty cool guy. He beats seals and doesn't afraid of anything(i kid i kid). I like Canada as a country and their people haven't given me any reason to dislike them. Though I heard Quebec is full of assholes......

I don't see anything wrong with Canadians...
it is a bit strange that a few words are pronounced so differently('about' and 'sorry' come to mind)
But I that it's more of a joke when Americans show any Canadian hate.

Oh, why is it that there are 2 whole continents of America but only the USA gets the title of America?
That has always bugged me...

I figured because it would be rediculous to call them united states of americian or united statian the countries name just doesn't translate well that way.

I'm a real fan of FarfromSubtle on Youtube and they're Canadians. Making fun of neighbors is just a joke for most people as I'm sure Canadians do it all the time to us.

I do find it funny that some Canadians pronounce Dr. Seuss as "Dr. Zeus."

Canada doesn't have anything for us TO hate that much. So happens I like alot of the acting talent that comes from Canada, especially those on the humor line-up.

Ya we Canadians do have a lot of comedians. It's either crack jokes or go crazy from the cold

OT: I haven't heard of any genuine hate against us Canucks. Mostly it's the standard bickering that two long-standing allies tend to have (cripes it's like Canada and America are an old married couple)

So its not that whats going on in the media is all together negative its that the only perception alot of people have is only just that the little jokes and stereotypes that get thrown around about us and I get the impression it leads to dislike and wrongful impressions whether people relize it out right or not.

Again those who take it to heart are the vocal ignorant minority. I'm sure it's not only our country, but it turns out that ignorance is just easy to be loud about, you don't have to spend time critically thinking about what you hear, you just reply with semi-relevant idiocy. Dealing with the ignorant is really a task too, so most of us just shut up and ignore their ranting so as to preserve our precious sanity.

Someone else in this thread mentioned South Park, and I'm going to use those to frame what I'm talking about.

South Park the movie, despite the popular "Blame Canada" song, was really not anti-canadian, if anything it was about how parents have a tendency to overreact and fail to take responsibility. In the show and the movie, with the exception of maybe Chef, the children are always more intelligent and mature than the adults. However the whole joke/undertones went over some people's heads and they heard the words but not the message, so we get a bunch of ignorant people... half protesting on behalf of Canada, the other half deciding "what has Canada ever done for us!" because they're fools who are unable to grasp that goings on in the world effect them as much as what happens in their own immediate surroundings. These are of course the same small handful of people who unironically adopted "America! F**k YEAH!" as though that movie wasn't a criticism of just about everyone in the US of pretty much any political affiliation.

In my experience, Cañadians(<-internet joke) are cool. I mean, they're usually nice, good at gaming, and one Canadian, in particular, is kinda the star of my hometown's pro hockey team. This guy, whose first name reminds me of a certain city in Australia, and whose last name reminds me of a singer from the 50's, whose first name was 'Bing' or something...

But yeah, IMO Canadians are cool.

I find myself slightly offended, being a Canadian in this thread. I find it very strange how many people in America think of Canada as the "little brother" country. Considering how much America seems to value the outcomes of wars you'd think they would remember what role Canada has played in the two world wars... beyond that I believe our politics are quite a bit more sensible than our southern friends. In any case, yes I do get milk in bags and spell things with "u" in them... so there you go.

I always thought we Americans take things a bit too seriously, but some of the Canadian responses in this thread have changed that perception.

People from Canada are nicer than the people here in New York, I have never had a problem with them and tend to like Canada more than America sometimes.
