I think a lot of it is real hate that has turned into friendly joking over the generations. I bet if you asked an American in 1812 if they like Canadians or the British they would tell you to eat a dick.

I am kinda sad though, I can't drop the free healthcare jokes anymore. At least I still have my bacon.

Alright, read most of this thread, big monster quote-fest coming up. I'm Canadian, btw, from Vancouver.

I have never known anyone to hate Canadians, what is there to hate? Some Canadians go to my college and they seem to fit in fine. In fact, I didn't even know one of them was Canadian until they told me. The only show I have seen that makes fun of Canadians is south park, but then it's a stupid show that makes fun of everyone so I wouldn't take it personally.
South Park, "Blame Canada". How is it that SO MANY American youths would base their view of a country off one song from a decent-tier cartoon? It's not even that great of a song. I guess I get the joke with those two singers that have weird heads, saying that we're backwards and whatnot, but still...

I don't hate Canadians, but I'm from Wisconsin.
Hm. I used to have a girlfriend from WI. Her ex and his friends were so pissed that she dumped him for me that I got death-threats, not for dating her, but for being Canadian, lol. He said he would come to Canada and kill me... had quite a few lols at that.

I also think it's funny how when Canadians are referring to a place in the US, they'll say "Oh, I went to Maine/California/Vegas/Orlando" etc., but when Americans refer to any place in Canada, it's just "we went to Canada". Come on, I know all 50 states and most big cities, and so do many people here. Try to keep up, Americans. We're the 2nd-biggest country in the world and although the middle 3 provinces (AB, SK, MB--bonus points if you're American and know what those abbreviations are) are pretty much just flatlands with nothing, the rest of the country is quite varied in culture, language, and geography.

One of my greatest friends is Canadian, I have nothing against them, other than their bacon being ham.
I've actually always wondered why in the US, ham/back bacon is referred to as Canadian bacon. Up here, we call it ham, and we have regular bacon. If you want a good example of Canadians cooking with bacon, watch any Epic Meal Time episode.

Much like the so-called gingers, I don't think anyone had actual negative feelings about canadians until South Park ripped on them.

Oh well.
Yeah, as mentioned before, never did get that.

How could America hate our hat?
I mean, I guess I get the joke, but I don't see what's funny aboot it. Yes, on a typical map, Canada is displayed north of the US. Maybe if I was to follow this logic, I could say that Canada is the "brain" of North America, while the US thinks with its stomach and Mexico thinks with its crotch?

I find myself slightly offended, being a Canadian in this thread. I find it very strange how many people in America think of Canada as the "little brother" country. Considering how much America seems to value the outcomes of wars you'd think they would remember what role Canada has played in the two world wars... beyond that I believe our politics are quite a bit more sensible than our southern friends. In any case, yes I do get milk in bags and spell things with "u" in them... so there you go.
I feel pretty much the same way. Canada, for its size, has contributed a great deal to Allied war efforts in the past, and is just now pulling out of the Middle East. In WW1, Canadians captured certain German fortifications that Britain/France couldn't; Canadian troops were then referred to as "Storm Troopers", which, yes, is where George Lucas got that name.

Whenever I'm in the US (and I have been there a lot, considering part of my business is there and many relatives from there) I feel sort of... weird. I always feel slightly uneasy, as if I can feel the paranoia in the air that's always talked about on news networks about politics, guns, whatever. Sure, these things happen in Canada too, but I feel way more comfortable and at peace when I'm here again. And it's just the US, because I don't get that feeling when in Europe or Asia.

Also, milk in bags IS ONLY IN EASTERN CANADA. Namely Quebec. And as much as I hate how French Canadians consider themselves superior to Anglophones, I love what their culture does to infuse our country with a completely distinct and vibrant community. If you're American, travel to Calgary and then to Montreal, and tell me what was more interesting. (On a side note, I was pretty glad that the Bloc Quebecois just got pwned in the last election).

I bet other people have probably asked you this (even in this same thread), but where are the Canadians you've heard say "Abouoot" from? Because I've lived in B.C. all my life and never heard anyone say it in any way other than "Abowt"... that is aside from people doing impressions of Canadian accents.

I don't get the "cops that ride around on horses" idea. RCMP look like this:

They only use horses in riot situations which is the same thing as in the U.S.A..
I agree, I've never heard anyone saying aboot except for Newfies or Americans mocking us. Plus, what's up with how nasally American newscasters speak? It's like they're always sick or something.

And as for police, well, for one, the RCMP isn't in every municipality; major cities usually have their own police forces, for example, the Vancouver Police Dept. And I don't get this stuff about Mounties. The only times RCMP ever wear the red uniform with that hat is for ceremonial purposes.

Anyway, yeah. I like most Americans, but it seems like a couple retarded ones start a trend and then people think it's funny to follow it. Meh.

Oh yeah, btw, EA's main offices are in Vancouver and Edmonton, and Ubisoft Montreal has churned out a few great games as well.

You may have to go back up and reread my original post since there is a lot of quoted stuff here, but I only said what I had seen on south park not that any American actually basis there beliefs on the show. Also if you feel mistreated as the butt of another countries jokes think about how Americans feel with the present day stereotypes, and blatant bigotry even here on the escapist. Again I can only speak for myself, and tell you of my observations as an American, and I can say honestly that I have never heard of Americans hating Canadians.

We don't HATE Canada at all, we just stereotype Canadians like we do all nationalities. Sure, we will complain about Bieber, but we'd say that to whatever country he came from. We'll make fun of your accent, and maple syrup, hockey, and all that jazz, but that's just our nature. It's all just stereotyping, most of us just use it as a joke. Whenever you hear someone poke fun at a Canadian by ending a sentence with "eh?" take it as a joke. Play along a little, it's all in good fun.
Please don't act as if your a Representative of America as I do none of those things.

Nope.

Americans only hate Mexicans. And that's because they all secretly want to be racist and this is the first time in a while where it is socially acceptable to be.
No, No, No, this is not true, please no one believe this. It is absolutely not socially acceptable to be a racist against any people in America by the greater majority.
People loose their jobs and are social shunned for even mild generalizations. I'm an American and I have Mexican neighbors that I like better than the white college kids that live down the street.

Listening to mob rule is a guaranteed ticket to stupid ville. Love it when people ask these kinds of questions, here is an example. "Like to know if all Americans see Germans as hate mongering nazis."

I don't care about Canadians at all, but I would like to point out that of the many times I've been to Canada for various reasons, I've encountered a fair amount of condescension and rudeness from the people there because of my nationality. I think most Americans don't have a problem with Canadians, and vice-versa, but for the ones that really truly dislike each other, it's definitely a cycle of "Canadian is condescending, so American treats them like elitists, so Canadian call them rude, so American calls them wimps, so Canadian..." etc. There is a small amount of prejudice on both sides and for the few people it affects, they play off each other. But those people are the same people who just find things to dislike in other cultures in general; most American/Canadian relations are totally benign.

Absolutely not.
We just like to poke fun at them. Canadians are just one of those things that are inherently funny and no one really knows why anymore.
But Canada is pretty cool.

Do Canadians hate Americans? I think the jokes are just jokes. I'm American and I don't hate Canadians. I view them as sort of like a cousin country to ours, being just north over the border.

Friendly ribbing.

Also, it's actually "Canadaland." It's just shortened to Canada for printing purposes.

And honestly, I was grifted by the most polite and articulate vagrant in Toronto. Top notch criminals up north.

I've noticed that Americans tend to stereotype us alot, though we do it and equal amount to them. Mostly Canadians don't mind because most of the stereotypes are true...I say "eh" in almost every sentence, occasionally pronounce about as aboot and I like maple syrup and beer...I've also hunted, cut down a tree in a plaid shirt and ridden on a sled so therefore I am the canadian stereotype (minus an igloor and a polar bear).

That's more over in Quebec with the French Canadians.
I'm from Quebec and let me tell you, EVERYONE hates French Canadians for the most part, EVERYONE. Other Canadians, other Quebecers, even other french people. See there seems to be a small line between two groups of french canadians. French Canadians who are trying to be English and French Seperatists (or at least this is what I've observed living in Montreal, I could be wrong and there could be very normal francophone canadians but I've never met any).
Well Quebec is a special part of Canada, I dont know why French Canadians think their hated most people I know dont mind them though as an Ontarian I have been told to claim to be from manitoba if I ever travel the country

Oh, why is it that there are 2 whole continents of America but only the USA gets the title of America?
That has always bugged me...
*sigh* Okay this always irritates me. I've heard a few people even use this to criticize our collective intelligence by a claiming that we're somehow ignorant that we are on the continent of North America. Yes, I'm American, so say what you want about me, but I'll make it very simple: My country is known in short as America because we are the only nation in both North and South America, with the word "America" in our name. It's just the way it turned out. People from Canada call themselves Canadian, people form Mexico are Mexican, People from Brazil are Brazilian, ect. What would you prefer we call ourselves? United Statesians? That sounds ridiculous. It'd be just as silly as asking someone from England or Scotland to call themselves United Kingdomians. We just happen to have the partial name of the continent in our country's name and American makes the most sense in regards for a term of nationality. I could even go into the historical reason for the name of my country but that's too much typing and off topic.

OT: No, I don't hate Canada, why would I? That doesn't make much sense. Now, I have met some very vocal Canadians who spew absolute hatred towards the U.S., but I'm sure I could find their counterparts here if I searched. Hell I'm conservative leaning in my political views and I harbor no ill will towards Canada; most conservatives actually don't. A few obnoxious load-mouths don't speak for everyone, but then again, this is usually the case in any scenario.

ADD ON: This was pretty funny, and right here on this very website. [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/comics/critical-miss/8513-Critical-Miss-Y-Ddraig-Cach]

But 90% percent of Canadians hate America. I'm not kidding either. Americans: Don't like Canada because Canada does NOT like you. They think you are all idiot, illiterate pigs that always make fun of us.
They're jokes, just like saying all Canadians drink maple syrup and say aboot, etc. etc... Do you seriously think that? That's retarded.

Edit: Also marijuana is basically legal here. So good times for all. Plus universal care, decent economy, nice people, and all that.
