Sorry if this has been done before, I swear I used the search function.
Also sorry if it's a bit of an inane question, but it just popped into the old noggin

When casually surfing the forums here, reading the posts, are you ever drawn to read, or ignore a post, based on the person's avatar?

I admit I am a bit, I'm less likely to read something if the user has an anime-based avatar or an overly pixellated old game character.

Does this make me a FREAK!?

Share your thoughts, on both my freakdome, and on whether avatars matter to you too.

I know one user who has indeed gone Gonzo, and speaks (types?) with more meaning and knowledge than most, and still has no avatar. His signs posts
--Alex P.
I beleive, but im unsure if thats his username.
So, while it may make for a 'trademark' of sorts, it does not warrant total popularity

I actually do, and to this day seek a good avatar. Anything I use I see as bad compared to everyone elses. Woe is me.

Depending on their avatar? Usually not but sometimes I wonder what?s the point in ignoring someone over what their avatar is. It?s their choice. Usually I judge someone by their grammar, spelling sometimes even etiquette.

To finish this post off, the Pink Panther doing graffiti? You can?t judge. :)

Why do you consider your avatar bad?
That little guy is awesome.

Anyway, no i do not skip peoples posts if they have any kind of avatar. I actually don't pay attention to peoples avatars too much.

Freak? Nah.

I also tend to ignore people who use those annoying Xbox avatars. No creativity at all.
Hmmmm I'm detecting something there :D

I shall change my avatar soon, it's due it anyway since I don't even actually have an xbox any more!

Definitely a freak, based on judging people by their avatar (kinda like judging someone based on appearance in real life), and the whole god's cousin business. One of these days, the big guy's gonna strike you with lightning for blasphemy (off the topic I know, but you've wound me up based on several posts)

And as the earlier comment suggests, I think judging someone based on their avatar is pointless.

I remember people by their avatar instead of their name, it's a lot easier that way.
Don't really care what kind of avatar it is tho.

Avatars don't that matter much, but they do provide distinguishability and a good recognition of the regular users.

For example, Ultrajoe's blue helmet-dude, Labyrinth's side-shot, NewClassic's robotic theme... I could go on forever.

My avatar is an interpretation of my RP character, "Lord Krunk", who made his big appearance in the Darth Mobius has Been Kidnapped By Ninjas thread. It was drawn by The Iron Ninja in paint, and I am grateful to him for it. I might keep this avatar for the rest of my time here.

NO! BRING BACK iBEAT!
Fine, fine! Geez...

I might resurrect iBeat soon, should I decide to. Mind you, few users will know/remember what iBeat was, nor what it looked like.

I remember some posters names, but I mostly remember avatars - which is why I get confused when certain people keep changing theirs!

So even if it's just a character from a movie, is that better than nothing? Cos i thought avatars like mine made me look childish

What arcstone said, except I don't totally ignore them. I look down on them somewhat. I pay more attention to avatars that are funny, or have something I can recognize that's awesome. For example, Captain Falcon.

I mostly just use it as a quick form of visual identification.

Also, people without avatars slightly irk me. It makes the page look... sloppy.

Avatars are a bit of fun, but you eventually end up identifying the person by them. If I ever saw say... Max the Reaper in real life I would get a shock when he wasn't that guy from Greenday, same with Nivag when he used to be Homestarrunner. You start thinking of that person by their avatar... it just happens because that's what you associate them with.

No way, an childish avatar would be a lolcat or something

(deep apologies to anybody who does, in fact, have a lolcat as their avatar)
