The Americans love to have super white blindingly straight teeth when in Britain that looks really fake and laughable. We normally go for just brushing our teeth. Not particularly bad like Ricky Gervais or Austin Powers!

Don't forget about spotted dick. I always found that rather amusing. Currants and custard does sound pretty good though.
It is a really yummy pudding and the cause of sniggers between every 9-30 year old in Britain hahaha

Do all people in the American South bang their cousins?

Answer: Of course not.
Only if they can't catch their sister.

OT: I think it might be an age thing. I've met quite a few Brits, and all the ones around middle age or older ALL have bed teeth. I dated a British girl for a spell and she said that is actually kind of true, back in the day dental care wasn't really a big concern... or so she said.

No. But we all drink tea and eat crumpets. We also wear suits all the time and listen to the queens address every afternoon. Oh and heaven forbid anyone is to utter the words ... "sex" in front of us. Oh I say, pardon my rash language.

NOT ALL IRISH PEOPLE ARE DRUNKS,
Now, I have to take exception to that one... as an Irishman, I can say quite categorically that we actually are all drunks.

(Actually, and on a serious note, as someone working in the alcohol industry, I can also say that the UK & Ireland are HUGE markets for selling alcohol, compared to other countries of similar size, because they do like a drink.)

Finally, my wife's English, had bad teeth, got braces, now fine. Don't all Americans in trailer-parks have bad teeth too? There are estates in England (which will be similar to trailer-parks, I suppose) which are full of can't afford it / can't be bothered levels of bad teeth, for similar reasons as the American Trailer-Parks.

The one difference is that no Brit tends to go to the polished anchorman straight-edge diamond white level of tooth-care, as it looks ridiculous.

Briths and Irish drink beer. That's kids stuff, say I. Finns consume the most hard alcohol in the whole world.

OT: No.

Dental care is very important to Americans because people in films and on television have perfect pearly whites, So good dental hygiene is associated with power and money and general well being.

It mostly started when tooth decay and diseases like scurvy where found to promote heart attacks and lung disease. All the rich people including those on television stated getting better dental care and it continued from there.

So, Its not that all British have bad teeth, Its that Americans have better teeth by the majority.

I personally have poor teeth by American standards, I have a small but noticeable overbite and yellow teeth are hereditary in my family, So I've just never cared.

Actually my teeth are terrible. They look just fine, but I've inherited the most fragile set of chompers from my dads side that I need fillings pretty much whenever I go to the dentist. I've had to start actually cutting stuff like coke out of my diet in an attempt to actually keep my teeth, which is a shame.

You probably know more about your own people than I do, I wasn't really expecting anyone to reply by saying that any of the stereotypes raised were true! My uncle was Irish and he was completely wankered every time I ever met him, I was mid-rant at the time and might have forgotten that.

Also, I think whoever started this ridiculous thread was thinking more about tooth decay than just having crooked teeth like your wife. Living in upper-lower-middle-class Warwickshire I can honestly say that I don't know anyone with major tooth decay. I beleive that the majority of British people are fairly consciencious about their teeth.

While it is true that the council-estate dwelling, beer-swilling, doll-queueing, happy-slapping, street-talking, social-services-tormenting underclass that Britain has developed in recent years probably have generally quite poor personal hygene standards, It is good to remember that they ae not representtive of the whole of Britain, a fact that even I forget sometimes.
