Fish = meat

Egg = Not meat

What thread comes next? Are asparagus heads meat since the word 'head' is included? Maybe potatos are meat, 'cos they have eyes!
I was thinking the same thing.
No offense to the OP, but this is just an incredibly retarded question. Like Jessica Simpson retarded.

Nope. Eggs are not meat.

No, eggs aren't fertilized, and are actually just a single cell that would be discarded anyways, much like a human female ovulating. This cell is not part of a muscle (what meat is. Mind you, bones, for example, are part of an animal, but are not meat.)

The ostrich egg is the worlds largest cell by the way.

More like eating menstruation, actually. And yes, I did just burn that image into your mind.
I hate you so much right now.

It's not really meat, but it's the equivelent of eating sperm.
Really? You know sperm comes from males right? The egg comes from females, and this is the internet you really should know this stuff already.
They're both reproductive cells. Yes, ones the male reproductive cell and the other is the female reproductive cell, congratulations. They have their differences yes. I'm stating that eating one gamete could be the equivelent of eating another gamete.

Actually it is more akin to eating menstrual expulsions.

Eggs are classed as dairy because they are animal product, like milk. Or at least that's what I was told as a child.
Someone either lied to you or didn't know what dairy products are.

Eggs are a form of meat for which no animals die to produce. Of course, animals are still "enslaved," so vegans are still opposed to it naturally.

I'm surpised that Vegans don't consider raising vegatables to be a form of enslaving animals. All those poor earthworms are struggling to help you produce those crops.
Oh come on now, there isn't any need to be like that.

While I eat eggs and dairy I do realise that they've been selectively bred over hundreds to thousands of years to produce an over abundance of unfertilsed eggs and milk to the degree that it detriments their ability to survive in the wild. There is nothing illogical about having a problem with that, it's just a subjective matter of how you feel about such things.

I would say that eggs do not count as meat, I would say that they are in a totally different category altogether.

If it makes you feel any better, it isn't exactly like eating menstruation. Menstruation, after all, comes after ovulation, and I don't think hens have uteri, so there shouldn't be any blood involved.

The egg yoke was once in it's development a single cell, but develops into the yolk. The albumen that surrounds the yolk is mostly water and about 15% by volume protein.

The developed and laid egg is not the same as sperm. The protein, fat, and vitamin content is not the same, one reproductive cell is mobile, one develops into a yolk and is surrounded by a clear fluid. I am not seeing how this comparison of your's stacks up.

Technically you are eating chicken ovums. Unless you buy free range eggs, then you may indeed get a fetus.

I think you mean eating period.
Unless you are eating the chicken's uterine lining, this is also not true.

And by the way, gross.

Jonluw said:

No again. Who did you people get your "Birds and Bees" talk from? The ovum that comes out during menstruation is so tiny you wouldn't even be able to find it.

Alright, that's it. I now declare sex education to be defunct.

There isn't really a good analog to the chicken egg and the human development cycle. They use two different types of reproduction, internal, where the mother feeds the baby continuously, and external, where a yolk is included with the egg to feed the young as is develops.

Also, you people are obsessed with this. All I have to say about that is... dude.

Note that I said "more like" I am aware that it is not the same as eating menstruation, I even corrected myself earlier in this thread. The human equivalent would be to eat a woman's "egg" or ovum that is expelled upon not being fertilized. Saying it was more like eating menstruation was more to gross people out.

Edit: Also, I was told in school that the human ovum is just barely visible to the naked eye.
