Achievements seem to be popular these days, especially on this forum where posters earn badges. I was just thinking about how game developers get to set achievements for us to get us to play games the way they want us to and to show us things we can do in their games. My problem with this is that it only works one way. Why can't we set achievements for game developers to get them to make games the way that we want? After all, it's the only language they understand!

I'll set a few achievements but would like to hear anybody else's.

Achievement: Easy to learn, hard to master. I have learnt how to play the game and I'm still enjoying playing it because there is more to the game than learning the controls and a few cheap tricks. I might actually play some your game more than once and keep it long enough to play again.

Achievement: Cut to the chase. The game has cut-scenes and dialogues but you actually let me get to the action fairly quickly if I'm not interested or have seen it before. I can skip cut-scenes. Your cut-scene may have been masking loading but when I clicked start it ended and gave me a loading screen to let me know the score. You don't trap me in any inescapable rooms while some characters are talking to me. You don't lock me in into a tram ride when I want to play.

Achievement: I paid for the game and can experience the content. I don't have to play boring modes in your game to unlock content to play in the modes I want to play. Thanks!

You COULD send these to them, but they'd be ignored.

I personally don't like achievements, because I think they ruin the game. Some people only play games to get their OCD fix of achieving these, and games should be about the gaming experience in my view,

Ignoring customers is easy but passing on the chance to earn some worthless token of achievement is hard to resist. This is my plan.

No point.

70% of developers these days can't even complete the 'Not crap' achievement.

Those suck too. If you need achievements to make you play a game / experiment with it. You're not a real gamer.

Hmmmm... I'm honestly not to sure about how the system would work, if at all. It's a nice idea for novelty value though.

I hate PS3's just as much. I still think Achievements / Trophys / Whatevers suck.

My system isn't like any of those others so you will love it. Since the system is for developers we can give them one of our "virtual brass stars" for not using the Trophies / Achievements or whatever in their games.

Well achievement whores do piss me off a bit, and those games that give excessive achievements (example: In Eat Lead you get an achievement for pausing the game. WTF??) I don't think that achievements ruin games, I think achievement whores do.

How about the CONSISTENT FRAMERATE achievement?

As for achievement whores well we are monsters created by the devs. They give us an achievement that requires 1 million xp. To get 1 mil you need to play online where 1 kill equals 7 xp. Do the math.

What a nice sense of flaming and trolling going throughout this.

Storyteller: Create a believable and compelling story in your game- 50G.

Better, Faster, Stronger: Use old game mechanics in new and exciting ways-25G

Down, but not out: Are an old developer once respected but now hated-10G

The Master: Make a good Sonic game-1000G
We have good Sonic games already, Sonic 1 2 3 and Knuckles, I guess you mean make a good 3D sonic game.

I'm going to respond to both of these quotes the same way: Achievements are good for extending replay value. I tend to go for them once I've already beaten the game once or twice, they actually give me a reason to go back. If it gets too much farther than that, that's when a problem develops.

As for the "developer achievements"... I got nothin'.

Thank you, I have a pretty big problem with achievements cause I can't start enjoying a game and playing it the way I want until I get every single achievement/unlockable. If there were no achievements I could start enjoying a game as soon as I open it.

I have played them but I ignore the achievements. Especially after I got nothing for setting the whole enemy team on fire.

Didn't see any in Mass Effect though.
