I hate the Controls of Grand Theft Auto 3 on PS2 and I hate Grand Theft Auto 3 in general.
I remember the lock-on system would just lock-on to the closest person thus it was really hard to actually shoot enemies instead of civilians. Vice City fixed that quite well. Overall, Rockstar games just don't control well even presently.

The Swindle has fucking awful controls. I so much wanted to love it.
That's disappointing as I've watched the Game Maker's Toolkit video [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cUbyNJKsi7E] about it, sounded like a really interesting game.
Oh you fully underestimate how improved controls have gotten.

GTA San Andreas was the epitome of controls.

And I love the Physics of Grand Theft Auto 4 I mean this video showcases the things I miss from GTA 4 in GTA 5:

You say "fact" like it means much in this context. The Sun rising each day is a fact. Man Utd not being at the top of the table right now is a fact. Me sitting here typing away right now is a fact...

"Those cover systems will get you killed" is not a fact. You needed a qualifier of 'sometimes' - but then the exact same thing can be said about input cover systems, ergo the criticism becomes redundant. If you're not keen on this system, fine, but you can't just dismiss it and expect everyone else to share your subjective experience and/or opinion.

Requiring a button to do that removes all those issues. Watch high-level play in any cover shooter like Uncharted or Ghost Recon Future Soldier and you'll see players very sparingly use the cover system.
Having a button also takes up a whole input on a joypad, and those things are a precious commodity. Quite often cover buttons are multi-functional, and those also cause problems. Both have positives [to some], and negatives [to some], and it's also relative to the individual game's design.

I loved not having to jab another button to magically unstick Lara from a surface, and together with the aiming system it built one of the very best 3rdP action titles I've played since--- well, ever, really (certainly in terms of movement and response. TR's frustratingly - bordering on ruinously - easy even on the highest diff, and I feel Lara's perks need to be kept as nerfed as possible to make her as vulnerable as possible. same goes with climbing and falling skills).
If a game is trying to predict what you want to do, it will predict wrong at some point. I don't understand how anyone can say that is not a fact. It's just a matter of when (not if) it predicts wrong in a situation where that wrong prediction gets you killed. TR also tries to automatically choose which shoulder you should aim off of (when in cover or near a wall) and chooses wrong at an alarming rate. Just giving me full control over shoulder switching would fix that issue.

I'm not saying every cover system is perfect, but it can be made perfect. For example, MGS4's cover system perfectly unstuck you from cover the instant you moved the left stick away from cover, something most cover shooters don't do. I played MGS4's online for 4 years and played every week. I never once died because of the cover system and I played at the highest level against the best players. Most cover shooters do have an issue with unsticking so I agree with you there. However, I know that it can be done right as experienced with MGS4. Whereas, I have yet to find a contextual cover system work as flawlessly ever. I don't think I ever will because logically there is no way a game will be able to predict what you want to do without predicting wrong at times. Games, especially shooters, waste buttons all the time. MGS4 allowed more actions than any TPS without the need for a single contextual control. What other TPS lets you lean while shooting in 1st-person or lets you grab an enemy and plant C4 on them?

When you are playing in an online environment against human players, it is far more advantageous to just stand behind a wall vs sticking to it. Being in cover only gets you killed vs human opponents. Now, how am I supposed to stand right up against a wall (not sticking) in a game with a contextual cover system like TR, TLoU, or MGS5 that automatically puts you in cover?

Lara is very OPed in Rise as well. I guess you can just choose not to use the OPed stuff. There is a difficulty that disables health regen in Rise, but it doesn't really make it much harder. It also reminds me how the 'jam on the screen' indication of health needs to just fucking go away. Take a little damage from a fall and you have annoying ass blood spots on your screen until you heal as health regen is disabled. Just give me a health bar.

I'm not a fan at all of Rockstar's controls even now. Merely jumping over a fence feels so mechanical. Aiming has never felt right whether it's newest GTA, RDR, or even Max Payne 3. I am totally for physics-based elements over using canned animations.
