newb=person who recently started to play "the game" and doesn't know much/anything yet.
noob=person who has been playing for quite a while but still sucks and refuses to get better, while persisting on playing.

So, to the tread, is that a trick question?

It strikes me, that some people don't know the difference.

I don't mind noobs at all unless:

A: They at like pros when you're wiping the ass-fault with their ass.

B: They ask questions, you answer, but they keep asking like you don't know what you're talking about.

It depends, if some one is a noob and they know it, they're tolerable. When you're new, you have an excuse.
If they're a noob and they think that they are the best player in the world, I hate them. When you're either not new, or you're new and assume you're a veteran of the game, then you're annoying.

We all have to start somewhere right? in fact, i like helping newbies get the hang of a game.

those who chastise others for not being good at a game they just got is pointless.

On that note, i take the term "noob" as someone who does stupid things, like Using the Grenade launcher and thumper combo in MW2.

"N00bs" are really a double-bladed edge. They're excellent free XP, but when they're on you're team, there's less players to steal your kills but then there's no support fire to give you time to heal or kill the opponent taking advantage of your dim-witted ally. My theory on where the term originates: The first man killed in the insurrection of John Brown's Army was named Dangerfield Newbie.

Depends on their attitude about it. If they're screwing up due to inexperience, I'm patient. If they're screwing up due to inexperience while being total asshats, I resent them.
This, although if they sound under 10 i often have problems being patient.

i understand that people need to start somewhere, and I can say that I've taught a few of my friends out of "n00bdom" and into, what I call "d00ddom" a slightly better player than a n00b. i like teaching them so that others need not deal with the annoyance of a n00b.

*shrug* pretty much everything I was going to say has already been said in this thread, so... I guess I get to put my own unique flavor to it!
I don't mind the guys/girls that suck, don't mic spam, and actually want to improve.
Who I can't stand are mic spammers, and people whose giant egos have convinced them that they don't suck, and that there is nothing wrong with the way they play. What they really need to do is step back and ask for help. AND STOP MIC SPAMMING!!!!!!!!!11 (sorry 'bout that rage there)

I don't use the term noob like it is most popularly used...

To me a noob is either...

A) Some one who has played a game for a while and still does things that are idiotic... Which most of the time they'll be likely to call me a hacker or cry.. Or BOTH

B) some one who has played the game for a little while and instantly feel the need to tell ME how to play the game when chances are I've played a lot longer than them...

So yah those 2 types are annoying to me..

These 2 things would be fixable by simply

In Example A, the person would ask questions and not be so afraid of their ego being hurt by doing so. I honestly don't know what happened on the internet that made people afraid to ask questions to make themselves better! I'll answer them, heck I've written tutorials for certain things in the past! A person who's able to man up and ask what they did wrong in a certain situation is a good person in my book...

and for example B, Well... Yah there's the mute button for that...

New players on the other hand? Nah.. I like to teach people, it actually helps me learn more about the game in the end... New players aren't noobs to me, they are... *cough* New players!

In a way, yes, but then I remember that at one point we were all n00bs, so I try to do my best to ignore them or help them.

Generally its their attitude, if they ask for help then ill provide, but i dislike medics that do nothing but glue themselves to the one heavy

The noobs that will parrot the same question constantly when they can take all of 2 seconds to google the answer.

Noob: How do I get the bow for the sniper?
Noob: How do I get the bow for the sniper?
Noob: How do I get the bow for the sniper?
Noob: How do I get the bow for the sniper?
Noob: How do I get the bow for the sniper?
Noob: How do I get the bow for the sniper?
Noob: How do I get the bow for the sniper?
Noob: How do I get the bow for the sniper?
Snot: You can start by not pasting that in TF2 and paste it in google.
*short pause*

Noobs don't really annoy me unless they are incompetent. If a noob gets killed often because of another player while they were working to complete the objective, then they're okay. If a noob gets killed because they were screwing around during a game match like demolition in Modern Warfare 2 because they were pretending to be a sniper on the opposite side of the map, then they deserve to have a noob tube shuved down their throats.
