Do you ever get called a hipster?

Because you don't like something that's popular? Not disliking it BECAUSE it's popular, but just something being popular and you genuinely don't like it.

That's been happening to me a lot lately (even more so since I got my new glasses which are admittedly slightly hipsterish in appearance)

Does anyone else ever find themselves in this scenario?

Once, I was crossing the street somewhere other than a crosswalk and some people said "Ohhhh, look at the hipster!"

I take offense to that. Hipsters are usually retro ironic self-aware dbags who all need to die. I'm just more of a misanthropic asshole, there's a big difference!

I agree. I've also never understood when people act like Hipsters "don't care how they dress" most hipsters I've ever seen put more effort into looking like they don't care than someone who actually does care.

Here's how to dress like you don't care

Step 1. Grab yesterdays pair of crumpled jeans from the floor and put them on
Step 2. Put on first t-shirt you find in dresser, regardless of what it actually says

You're done.

The hipsters in NYC go out of their way to find trendy clothes and such. My sister's ex spent over 100 dollars on jeans that were WAY too tight for him.

On a side note, Step 1 and 2 are actually how I get dressed every day.

Nobody has been nutted by me recently, so no I've not been called a hipster.

Also, I'm far too scruffy to even be compared to one.

@strain42

If that's how you dress like a hipster then I guess I am. I just throw on jeans and a shirt, every so often throwing on a hoodie or long-sleeve collared shirt if it's cold.

Then again, most hipsters I've seen do the cardigan thing and wear skinny jeans with shirts that either have ironic self-effacing statements or is a mash of various colors. (For the life of me I don't get how purple, yellow and black can be put on a shirt and someone will think that it looks good.)

To me the appearance is a part of it, the most telling sign of a hipster is the attitude. Most hipsters are those guys on Youtube who will proclaim that they liked indie artist before anyone else, and then complain how she's gone "Too mainstream" since actually getting paid for her talent.

Occasionally, but mainly I listen to 'goth' or 'mosher' music, which surprises me because I love Dance music and Grime music.

That's the proper way to dress like you don't care, which isn't how to dress like a hipster lol Sorry, I think I worded that wrong. That's my mistake.

I guess the dividing line comes from intent, if you're dressing like you don't care because you're trying to make some sort of ironic statement or if you just honestly throw something on because you have a class in twenty minutes. Or like wearing comfy clothes 24/7. Or if you're awesome *smug self-satisfied look*

Nah, I don't have the money to dress like a hipster. The only real irony about them is that they spend ridiculous amounts of cash to look like they've been shopping at a Goodwill. Hipster is just becoming the new annoying subculture to hate. Before this it was "goth" and "emo". Eventually all the people who love feeling superior to others for no reason will move on to a different dumb trend and we will start hating that dumb trend.

Once that I can think of, it was because I said I don?t like Twilight. I didn?t bring it up, I was invited to see it at the movies.
Edit: I lie, I was also called hipster by the same person for not liking Glee. She is the only who really uses that term.

I don't really even know what a hipster is, and have never heard anyone use the term.

I very rarely get called anything. Helps that I don't have much contact with people, and when I do, they are generally more interested in something else than appearances.

I don't exactly dress and look like a normal person (I guess), since I like making clothes for myself, and that's how I've always dressed.

Also, the only pieces of clothing I spend money on and buy relatively expensive are hats and shoes (both things I can't make. Well, I'm not good at making hats). Although considering that I don't buy either that often, and prefer quality, I probably actually use very little money on that considering how long I use them for.

Not really people usually just call me Twat or Fag for disliking popular things.

I have a friend who gets called "Hipster" all the time because he dresses like one and has similar taste in music.

Apparently I'm a hipster to some people because I prefer rock and jazz related genres to rap and club music (notice I don't actually dislike rap and club music, they are just not my favorite, so I'm a hipster... yeah)

Also, because I said I'll "probably" get MW3, rather than salivating over it and constantly panting over how I'll pay full price on day one for the Extra-Special-Super-Pricey Blow-Job Edition, and then only emerge from my room after playing it solidly for 3 months. (Again, I don't dislike CoD. I'll probably get it, and probably enjoy it too. But just because I'm not mad about it to some people I'm a smug hipster who only like indie or retro games, which are naturally crap of course because they are "not CoD")

I swear I don't think I've ever seen a proper, full on hipster in the flesh before. I know people who have some slightly 'hipsterish' traits, but no-one that actually fits the stereotype in anything more than minor details.

So you only nut people when they call you a hipster. What do you do the rest of the time, punch them in the face?!

OT: No... I've never been called a hipster or a chav or any otherwise derogatory term of a subclass of society or youth culture.

Thank heaven for that... I guess.
