Same here. I don't really mind hipsters as long as they don't act all superior and shit. But then again that isn't really exclusive to hipsters, thats just being an obnoxious, conceited douchebag.

As for the whole "hipster" thing in general, the definition of a "hipster" can actually pretty loose, vague, inconsistent and can kinda fit anyone. Going through this thread, I've seen a bit of considerable proof of that. Plus, some of the qualifications for what make someone a hipster are pretty fucking stupid. Like for example, the whole plaid shirt argument I seem to hear. What the hell is wrong with plaid or checkered patterns? I can understand the distaste with skinny jeans but those aren't by definition "hipster" either. Just something that randomly got tacked on when a sudden influx of people took on the look. Oh and this:

Nope, but I happen to fulfil one or two criteria without trying. I tend to listen to music that's fairly obscure. Not because it's obscure, though. I wish those bands would get more coverage, because they deserve it a lot more than what's on the radio.

And I dress smart-casual sometimes.

Generally I'm called a hipster by two people: a friend, who's just messing around because of where I live; and a co-worker because I often wear plaid shirts with nerdy t-shirts.

This same co-worker goes out of his way to wear obscure band t-shirts raving about all things Radiohead and go out of his way to "not give a shit" about his appearance, which I've begun pointing out is easily 50% more hipster per volume.

Sometimes because of my music tastes, but I don't think that's what makes a hipster. I listen to that music because I like it, not because no one else has heard of it. I also don't make it seem like I'm superior for listening to it.

Nope. Most of the music isn't popular, not because it's obscure, but because it's 15-20 years old (though admittedly, some of it was obscure even then.)

I don't like most things that are mainstream, so I sometimes call myself a hipster. Although the reason for not liking them is not that they are mainstream.

These things include but is not limited to:
Listening to music
Drinking alcohol
Watching soccer(I fucking hate soccer)

I agree. I've also never understood when people act like Hipsters "don't care how they dress" most hipsters I've ever seen put more effort into looking like they don't care than someone who actually does care.

Here's how to dress like you don't care

Step 1. Grab yesterdays pair of crumpled jeans from the floor and put them on
Step 2. Put on first t-shirt you find in dresser, regardless of what it actually says

You're done.

I follow those steps religiously. When people compliment me on my shirt, I have to look down to see which one I'm wearing.

Im not entirely sure what a hipster is to be honest......
but I fit some things that supposedly qualify people as 'hipster'

-I like gourmet Coffee
-I listen mostly to obscure music
-I search buy retro games every time i go to a convention
-I like to experiment in the kitchen and consider myself a pretty decent cook
-I am a college student and between the ages of 18-21
-I consider myself to be uncool and don't really care....
-I usually wear ruined jeans (I dont buy pants very often), a game or band T-shirt and a good quality hoodie (I use it as a substitute for a winter coat, so it's wind/water resistant).
-I speak in a way that makes people think I'm "trying to sound smart" (I don't do this intentionally)
-I have a tendency to use ironic humor.

But again... I'm not entirely sure on what constitutes as 'hipster'

And it doesn't seem very productive to hate on hipsters anyway; they WANT normal people to hate them because it makes them feel special. Think of them as real-world trolls.

All the friggin' time. I seem to like things most other people don't even know exists. I've accepted it though, and I like introducing people to these things, altough the ever so common "HHHIIIIIPPPSTTEEERRRRR" can be annoying at times.

Then again, most hipsters I've seen do the cardigan thing and wear skinny jeans with shirts that either have ironic self-effacing statements or is a mash of various colors. (For the life of me I don't get how purple, yellow and black can be put on a shirt and someone will think that it looks good.)

purple and yellow are opposite to each other on the colour wheel. they are complementary colours. When complementary colours are pared together the cool colour ( in this case purple) will add more of a pop to the warm colour(yellow) and the black goes with anything.

I iron my shirts, I have my suits drycleaned, I get my hair cut every month by a barber (not a stylist, not a hairdresser, and not my friend that dropped out of cosmetic school. But a trained, certified, honest to God barber damnit), and I shine my shoes. For all that it costs me less in a month than what these people pay to look like crap. I look as corporate as any man possibly can be and I like that look.

I'm an accountant that plays video games, watchs MLP, I've been buying new music from an LP specialty store for years, but because of the way I look and act I've set myself apart.

So no, I have never been called a hipster.

No. I've never been called a Hipster. A majority of people where I live, tend to go by look alone. So anyone dressed like this, is called a Hipster. Probably more noticeable then anything else, since we don't really have a lot of Hipsters. I'd say there are more 'Greasers' and 'Emos', then anything else here. It's a small town. I'd bet there are quite a few in some of the bigger cities, but, I don't really feel like hunting for Hipsters.

I do like a lot of Indie bands but it kinda ends there. I would never wear skinny jeans or those fake glasses. There are some `Hipsters` in the city I go to school. But I never heard anyone being called one.
