I get moderately annoyed, not really angry. I get angry if people interrupt me. Interestingly enough, when I'm rambling is the only time they don't tell me to shut up.

I'll be in mid conversation with my roommate (usally one he started) while were watching tv and if somthing comes up he wants to hear, rather than pausing he loudly tells me to shut up, basically stating that anything i have to say couldn't be as important as whats on tv

it takes every ounce of self control to keep from smacking him.

so in short yes it does make me angry when i'm told to shut up.

Well, yeah. Anything so flagrantly disrespectful is bound to piss me off.
I often heed it, though. I fume, but I fume silently. If someone is telling me to shut up, it's probably because I'm saying something stupid or being horribly annoying again or whatever.

Nope. I tend to laugh and then tell them to suck...

Yeah i'm going to leave it there. I should point out that the only people who tell me to shut up are my friends so its all a joke really.

Depends on the tone. I tend to ramble and at times can talk about stuff in detail and people just completely lose me in my monologue. So I just say to people to tell me to shut up if I do that, and it work - most of the time :)

Simple question, but one I've not seen asked before.

Do you get angry when told to "shut up"?

I'll be honest, I get downright enraged when told to shut up.
Because some other person's gibberish is so much more relevant than mine?
Don't make me laugh so hard my soul could almost feel it.
Maybe you just talk too much.

Well, if someone asks me to be quiet in a somewhat civil manner, I'm fine with it. If someone says "shut up", then yes, I get very agitated. I see the phrase as being immature, rude, and very reflective of a person's qualities.

Nope. I'm usually very quiet apart from a snarky comment here, or a question there.

The only times I'm really talking a lot is giving directions (what to do in a video game, how to build something, answer questions) and if I'm intentionally annoying someone, the latter for which being told to shut up in part of the intended reaction.

Nomally I'm not bothered by it, except for these situations...

Yes, yes I do. I can be quite indignant if I'm told to shut up so someone else can speak utter crap that I was halfway through explaining better than they did. Especially if I'm trying to argue a point against them, or against what they're saying and I have indisputable evidence, but I'm told to shut up before I get to it and they then continue talking about the stuff I was disputing.
...and on day where I just fucking hate everything.

Because I'm like a chainsaw. I skin your ass raw. And if my day keeps going this way, I might have to break something tonight.

I get very angry when told to shut up. It's usually coming from a 3rd party butting into a conversation that a friend and I are having. The one I get the most when someone is butting in is "Don't you ever shut up?". I was never one to have a lot of friends back through school and the one group I did have I ended up having a falling out with (very long story). So when I can make a friend or meet someone with interests the same as me, and he/she is truly interested in what I'm talking about, it brings my blood to a boil to have someone rudely mouth off.

Yes, but only because I rarely talk in the first place. It only seems fair that I should to be able to babble any bullshit on the rare cases when I actually do talk.

Ya I am a tad hard headed so I will cool off once I get it though my skull that I might have deserved it. That being said I always do my best to be kind and respectfull when giving opinons and what naught so I do not really get told to shut up.

For about a year, my grandmother ended every conversation with, "Now shut the hell up and get a job!" Being as I couldn't find a job in town, didn't have a drivers liscense (or even an ID) and she did absolutely nothing to help me, ever, it really pissed me off.

All that frustration eventually came to a head; my grandmother had brought us over to do chores for her, which pissed me off because I had been doing chores all day (washing dishes, laundry, mowing the lawn, ect). When we got there, we found out that we were moving around stuff in the basement. My grandmother being a complete control freak, we were moving things around for six hours, her yelling at us the whole time. Three or four times, when I tried to make suggestions, she would say to me, "Shut the fuck up and get a job".

After we'd finished, my sisters and my mother were watching TV with grandmother, while I was sitting in the dining room, resting. Grama yelled at me to get in the living room. I ignored her until she said, "Right Now!"...leading to this.

Myself: OK, here I am.

Grandmother: Good. Now come in-

Myself: Ah-ah-ah...that's not how it goes.

Grandmother: Don't interrupt-

Myself: Tone is better, but still not right.

Grandmother: Come in here and talk to us.

Myself: Yeah I heared you the first time. Now tell me to shut the fuck up.

Grandmother: I'm not going to-

Myself: Tell me to shut the fuck up...

Grandmother(angrily): Shut the fuck up!

Myself: Now tell me to get a job.

Grandmother(angrily): And get a job!

Myself: Good. Conversation over, have fun watching TV.

Grandmother: Wait, no-Get back in here!
I stayed in the dining room, reading from my notepad for the next ten minutes while they stayed in the other room and watched Lifetime. I don't think she ever told me to "Shut the fuck up and get a job" ever again.

Apologies for not saying yes right off the bat.
