Do you ever go easy on someone new here? For instance when someone new posts a thread that has been done 5 billion times; do you just let it slide or do you drop the 'search' bomb on them?

I let it slide. Everybody makes mistakes. But only if it's a new person, if it's someone who should really have picked up that the thread's been done a lot lately, they get the rage.

I drop the Search bomb. It depends how new they are. If it's post number 1 and they joined today I'll be mean but still welcome them and give them tips on how to avoid the hate.
If they're only relatively new then I'll be as mean as a mean thing on National Mean Day in Meanland.

Meanland's near Greenland, by the way.

I won't lie. I've been a dick to new members before, but I think that we should try to welcome new members and make them feel welcome. (Saying welcome to The Escapist isn't hard)

That said, we have rules. And I think we should stick to them, but when someone new breaks them informing them politely seems to me the best way to get them to follow them.

EDIT: Of course when someone is clearly troll'n then I'd start reporting them.

I've never told anyone to use the search button.
They're usually new, and about 50 billion people have said it before me, so I don't bother.

I´m not exactly a regular in here, but when it comes to newer members, I tend to be more tolerant than towards seniors. However, I still will drop the Search Bomb, because they´ll never learn if their mistakes aren´t pointed out. Constructive criticism and helpful advices work better.

I don't usually find that many copied threads from newbies, but if they've been around a while then I will yell at them a bit and mention the search bar.

You need to be the annoying guy who's always there in the first 5 replies then.

It really depends on the post, if it's somthing thats been posted a lot sure I won't be a jackass but if it's a rude troll post report and move on.

I always let it slide, as I know that a certain captain will drop the bomb anyway.

I let it slide unless I'm the first one to point it out. Just because they're new doesn't mean they shouldn't pay attention and learn the rules. Saying "use the search button" isn't mean, it's informative.

I never drop the search bomb, simply because if you know a thread has already been done... don't read it and accuse people of being stupid. It pisses me off when people do that, also those twats that do the /thread bullshit.

I am rarely ever the first to see a topic (mostly because I browse through the front page rather than the forum proper) so usually when I come across a topic it has already been search bombed.

Don't really care about whether or not its repetitive, unless numerous versions of the same topic pop up within the same day.

Doesn't matter, those threads still get a hundred posts so why would anyone stop?

It's also possible your opinion might change. Like the your favorite band thread. You might say you like this band. But a week later you might find a new favorite band and a new favorite band thread shows up.

No one ever lets what slide? People not using the search button or breaking the rules? I try to myself, there are some crimes that one can not forgive. But they are few and far between. But to be honest, even I've broken these rules before, so I'd be a hypocrite if I didn't forgive other people for it. And I think there are few people here that have can say any different.

I think I'm very easy going.
I don't correct others' spelling (unless they themselves corrected somebody else, because then it's hilarious).
And I don't mind repeat threads (except for the zombie-ones).
I do hate necro-threads but I usually don't bother to express this sentiment.

I think I'm more aggressive towards the Grammar Nazis then the people who make mistakes, especially since most of the latter have English as a second language.
They need training (which comes naturally through posting and reading on a forum such as this).
They don't need scolding.
