I cant stand. they are mostly based on anime and i hate anime to death. they are too girly, pink, has fantasy setting in fairy land. and etc etc

plus there turn based gameplay is so outdated.

so do u hate JRPG?
Outdated for whom? I like turn based combat . Speak for yourself .

I love Jrpgs . I like the stories , and they are entertaining to play . They are all different one from another .

Wrpgs i can't stand . They are ALL too tolkien . That would be a generalisation , if it wasn't true . I'm bored to death with the Human/dwarf/elf thing . And just adding more races does not make it different . It's the same thing . So boring .

Thats why i like Jrpgs. They are all unique and different than one another .

Some of the best games out there are JRPGs. It's silly shun the entire genre because you see some that are "too anime".

EDIT:
Also, this:

But in a... good way. I think.

Generally, I'm not the biggest fan of them, but I love the Persona series to death. I really like anime, but JRPGs tend to draw from a set pool of cliches that no one ever adds to and promptly beats them to death. Anime has proven itself as a way to tell fantastic and innovative stories, I'd like to see more JRPGs break from the mold and take some cues from better animes.

Turn-based gameplay can make or break a game depending on how well it's done. I'd actually like to see more of it in modern games. Persona 3-4 showed me how excellent it can be if done right.

And you might want to have considered something a little less inflammatory for a thread topic than asking whether people hate JRPGs or not...

Some JRPGs are good. Some are bad. That's I feel about that.

Recent JRPGS I can't really stand. They just seem too melodramatic for my liking. Don't get me wrong I enjoy a dramatic story, but only to a point. Too much drama is a very bad thing in my opinion and recent JRPGS seem to have a lot of that.

Of course there are exceptions. Resonance of Fate is a pretty good JRPG and that's because in my opinion it finds that right balance of drama and lightheartedness. And White Knight Chronicles was pretty much a throwback to the classic JRPG formula.

I still have a soft spot for JRPGs of yesteryear though, and I hear the Persona series is pretty darn good. I should probably check that out.

I hate JRPGs for the same reason I hate first person shooters and cover based shooters. Because for every good one that has depth and personality, you have fifteen others that are shat out pieces of marketing filth that have no soul. JRPGs are the basic formula for the Japanese, the safe formula that they know will make money.

That said? Even if that weren't the case I wouldn't be much of a fan, I dislike the tropes and common character threads associated with JRPGS. I also dislike Romantic Comedies, but I refuse to say I hate them as an entire genre because while as I said above about them being easy? There are others made with artistic value and soul. So no, I don't hate them, i'm just not the audience.

That said? Speaking as a nonfan of JRPGs, Septerra Core was oarsome.

...And I /still/ think Final Fantasy is the Madden / Modern Warfare/ Battlefield of the JRPG market. Also? I didn't like Final Fantasy 7.

Though the NES and SNES are where most of the good ones are. The only ones I can get into these days are the Atlus JRPGs.

And turn based combat doesn't faze me. I've played enough turn-based startegy games on PC to get used to the idea.

I prefer color to brown. I prefer sunshine to dark sewers. I don't like anime but you can have a colorful, bright game without using anime.

Turn based gameplay isn't outdated, it's just a different style. When you say outdated, you make it seem like there were no real time RPG's in the past. They were being sold side by side, you could buy Final Fantasy II and Secret of Mana at the same time, for example.

I've always been more into games with strategy, fore-thought, story, characters or atmosphere. So RPGs Japanese or Western tend to be my thing.

I hate the modern JRPGs where there is too much telling and no enough showing.

Dragon Quest III is my favorite JRPG because you create a party of characters and explore the world that is given to you. There is no character development in your own party, because back then gamers got to use their imaginations to personify their party, and I adored that.

No, but I do dislike turn based combat, hence why I have never been able to enjoy one.

Okay that's not quite true. There was one and only one I actually did enjoy very much which was Jade Cocoon. Mainly because you could create your own creatures in that game which made the turn based combat enjoyable because I could see my creations in action.

*sees a JRPG thread by a monkey who can't write'

How droll.

*moves along, all the while enjoying great games like Persona and such*

Captcha says 'top notch'. Indeed, I believe JRPGs are so.

I love JRPGs.

A group of friends and I are in the process of making one, which we hope to put on Steam someday when it's done. And it WILL be awesome, assuming we can get the graphics part down well enough.

Turn based isn't outdated. POORLY DONE turn based combat is outdated.

See, turn based combat done right (As in it doesn't drag out these long-ass animations, for example) has the enormous advantage of letting the player set the pace of battle. If they're super confident, they can finish each turn in less than 30 seconds and blast through the battle rather fast. Or, if they really need to think about what strategy to use, they can take five minutes per turn if they want.

It's a great thing.

I wish they'd make some traditional JRPGs for PC, there are next to none. Give me a game like FFIII and I'll be happy but nooooooooooooo, any JRPG game has to be "different and in the end usually shit.

It's not like the market is flooded with them, since this gen started there have been next to none.
Oh god, yes. I really do wish that some JRPGs would come out for PC. Lately my random desire to occasionally play a JRPG is the only reason my console still sees any use.

OT: Well that's a pretty simple question. No, I don't hate JRPGs. Typically I find them as a nice game to relax with and enjoy a hopefully well-written story.

Also, it's quite a surprise to see someone on The Escapist profess such a hilariously weird thing as "they are too girly, pink,"

Well, it made me chuckle a little bit.

Anyway, as a non-facetious answer, I do like JRPGs but I'm not as engaged by the menu driven combat as I used to be. I tend to like ones that have active combat like Star Ocean or something a bit more chewy like SRPGs.

Traditional menu driven ones I still like to play, but I prefer them on handhelds these days, they're not enough to be my main source of entertainment any more.

No I do not, and no I'm not going to argue about it.

JRPG's annoy the crap out of me, no idea why they just do.

I dislike many things that are associated with JRPGs. The way the story is played out, poor executed roundbased mechanics, aesthetics... In too many cases I felt that I contribute jack to the story and are just the guy who fights monster in the dreams of the protagonists while they bore themselfs to death on the way from a to b.

But hate? I love the Pokemon games, I enjoyed Recettear and FF 13-2 (and FF X-2). Why should I hate it if I can just support the few JRPGs I actually like?
Wait you dislike many things in jrpgs but like ffx-2 and ffxiii-2 ? What really? I don't understand . What did those games do better than any other jrpg out there . Iv'e played those ( and hated them ) and cannot see what those two games have done better than any other game out these . Arguebly they have done things much worst.
