Do you hate playing as female charaters?

I play games.
Some of those games doesn't have a gender, some you can only play male/female, and some where you can choose.
When I can, I like to alternate randomly depending on mood and factors.
I often try to portray myself, (or at least my idealiz..I mean Ultimate form.) or that of my soul's other half (As I see it.)

Also I'm not sure what JRPG's you've been playing, generally the main character is male. I mean, there are plenty of female JRPG characters, and a few main characters.

My friend, I dont really play JRPG but i know lot about it. it might be my most hated genre but i respect those who like them.
i just dont like pink fairy land and animu style thing that most JRPG based on.

At least pink fairy land provides an alternative to brown desert land.

Now, we have to be fair, there's also brown generic middle eastern city, generic brown and green jungle, generic grey concrete military base. If we are really lucky we might get a generic looking office building.

(before anyone jumps on me, I am kidding, and I hope the OP is too because anyone calling JRPGs pink fairy land whilst simultaneously claiming to know a lot about them, is either lying or deliberately trying to piss other people off)

It shows! Hardly any JRPGs have female protagonists and most of those that do are games that let you choose. There are a couple of games with none-optional female leads like Persona 2: Eternal Punishment or Final Fantasy XIII (mostly the third one, since the first was an ensemble and the second had two leads of about equal importance) but they're in the extreme minority, possibly even more so than in our western AAA games.

I play PC FPS like Stalker. that game was mindblowing.

No, not at all. I tend to not thing as much of a protagonists gender as their general personality and behaviour. Male, female matters little to me in general.

Not really, in fact I actually regret making a male human thief in Guild Wars 2 when I had a go as a female Charr thief instead since she look cooler and more charming dialogues. Also when I change my Sylvari gender from male to female, she was far more appealing that way.

I think there's something very fascinating about well written female characters. You think of a "strong" female character, you don't get a good one, you get a strong independant woman character. And those are just horrible and cliche'd.

I played as a woman in Dragon Age: Origins and II, I'll probably play a male in Inquisitions because I've seen so much hip-swaying booty that I see it whenever I close my eyes.

No, I don't have a problem with it. Rather, I actually prefer it.

I did want to try a second playthrough of the Mass Effect trilogy as a female, but unfortunately the voice actress is cringe-worthy, so that didn't happen.

While I wouldn't go so far as to say cringe-worthy I really don't get the fuss over Jennifer Hales performance as female Shepard.The general consensus seems to be that she gives a much superior performance than Mark Meer.I did a playthrough as a female to see what it was like and my reaction was "meh I prefer Male Shep"

Yeah, I found the warm reception to her surprising. She reminds me of Michelle Rodriguez - trying as hard as possible to be as badass as possible, and as a result sounding really forced and fake. Mark Meer sounded a lot more natural to my ears, which is why I vastly prefer the male Shepard.

It's not that surprising, Hale is an established voice actress whilst meer was relatively new when ME came out. Hale got more recognition because she has kind of a fan base that enjoys a lot of her work and follows it from game to game.

As for ME, whilst I though Meer was fine, I found his delivery of renegade lines to be stilted and corny whilst Hale seemed to have more energy in her work, overall I find the two to be good, but Hales performance was more appealing, although Meer got better in the later games, his performance in ME 1 seemed noticeably worse than the later games.

Ah right, I wasn't aware of that, and didn't really care enough to look it up. So thanks for the info brother.

But eh, I can see why Meer's performance wouldn't be seen as amazing, since it isn't. But it did sound pretty natural and well delivered to my ears. Perhaps not as suitable for some military commander who is meant to be charismatic, but for just a human character, I thought he delivered it very competantly. I don't know why female Shepard's voice acting sounds so forced, but it just does to me for some reason. When I listen to her speak in conversation, I just can't shake the vision of some actress in a recording studio putting on as grim a face as possible while speaking into a microphone. haha

Nope. I happily play any game, regardless of what gender the main character is.
Fuck, one of my favourite games has you play as a floating shovel, watering can or packet of seeds for all of it.

Although I will say that this thread has given me a hankering to play FF VII and VIII again.

If it's a game with a character creation like Mass Effect, I play male, but if it's a game with predesigned characters like Borderlands I play female.
