Do you hate playing as female charaters?

So my friends, do you dislike games where we play as female characters? i dont play games where we play as female characters. i refuse to play such games. Prefer playing as male characters.

what about you?

do you....have a reason for that?

I mean I tend to gravitate towards books with female protagonist only because I've been inundated with male driven media most of my life...but I can't see why it would be as issue the other way around

While I wouldn't go so far as to say cringe-worthy I really don't get the fuss over Jennifer Hales performance as female Shepard.The general consensus seems to be that she gives a much superior performance than Mark Meer.I did a playthrough as a female to see what it was like and my reaction was "meh I prefer Male Shep"

Yeah, I found the warm reception to her surprising. She reminds me of Michelle Rodriguez - trying as hard as possible to be as badass as possible, and as a result sounding really forced and fake. Mark Meer sounded a lot more natural to my ears, which is why I vastly prefer the male Shepard.

I can sort of get what your saying about femshep ...though listening to Hales's other stuff she is by no means "bad" (in fact I'd say she's VERY good), thats not to say femshep was bad, she wasn't (again as I sounded much more natural/human) also the fact that to me while people love shepard he/she just kinda seems....to be there, you couldn't really sum up their likes/dislikes/personality without coming across as generic, a lot of the attachment comes from the imagination of the player

Its because majority of Real Hardcore games have badass male protagonists. most of Girly games like JRPGs have female protagonists.

Nope. I happily play any game, regardless of what gender the main character is.
Fuck, one of my favourite games has you play as a floating shovel, watering can or packet of seeds for all of it.

Although I will say that this thread has given me a hankering to play FF VII and VIII again.

That's fair enough.There's a big difference between caring that the main character is a certain gender though and flat out refusing to play a game because the main character is a certain gender which is what the OP seems to do

I don't generally play female characters if I have a choice in a game, but I certainly want women to be able to choose the gender of their character, if it can be set up like that. If I can play what I want, then others should be catered to as well. EDIT: Though I usually don't get what I want either, because giant mutant spiders are hard to 'relate' to or something.

Borderlands has been a great example of a rugged, psychotic shooter where you can play as a badass of either sex, and the next game will have more female playables than male (well, claptrap is male I guess, but jeez... pay me no mind, I'm still upset that it wasn't a playable Skag).

Still no psycho female miners to kill though, which is frustrating, but no matter. It's why I loved Saint's Row 2 and Skyrim- it was an even mash-up across the board, and gender meant nothing when everyone has a gun or an axe!

I prefer to play as female protagonists, and if given the option to play as either gender in a game, I'll almost always pick the fairer sex. Dunno why.

That's a lie, and I'm calling you out on it. You've played plenty of games where you play as females.

The only reason you're stating that you refuse to play females is because there's recently been a lot of popular topics about sexism in games, so you're trying to come out with an "edgy" opinion to try and aggravate the really annoying portion of the community.

Male, female, trans, cis, gay, bi, I'll play them all. Lately I've been playing a lot of females since I used to play male 99% of the time when given the choice. Quite frankly I'm kinda bored of playing male characters right now, mixing it up is a lot of fun.

I was hoping that Persona 5 would have a female protagonist (not as an option, as the one choice) but my hopes were dashed. Oh well, it will still be great hopefully. Maybe they'll do a P3 Portable with it and add a female lead in a later remake.

I always play as a female character if I can, it's a nice change from the constant short brown haired white dude we see in about 90% of games and female characters can be just as well written as male characters. (I'm also partial to Jennifer Hale)

There are only 2 reasons I give a shit about the sex of the character I play.
1) Male and Females have different stats bonuses.
2) I find the appearance of the character revolting.

I all depends on the type of game. MMO's I tend to solely pick female avatars. Single player games where you can pick and choose your gender I tend to stick to male ones, though it doesn't matter most of the time as often with such games, the playable character isn't really the main character and merely a tool to further or explore the stories of the other characters. Such characters tend to be mutes, devoid of personality and even a name of their own, other then what you give them. Single player games with actual developed characters I could not care what gender they are.

Tomb Raider 2013 features a female protagonist. A female protagonist who gets punctured in the abdomen, shrugs off multiple bullets, arrows, and explosives, fights wolfs with a knife, takes down an army of bad guys, and goes swimming in stagnant water and rivers of blood, -- and you're saying this game is "girly" just because it has a female protagonist?

And the answer, at least from me, would be "no".
I've played characters that weren't even human, so any human character would only slightly differ from my real me in comparison, irregardless of race, orientation or gender.

Doesn't really make much of a difference to me. All that matters is that the game is good. I don't mind having some gender variety in games. It's especially interresting when I play games with an anime art style, because you get to bet on a character's gender before the story spells it out for you.

If you have the option to play as either gender and it makes absolutely no difference experience-wise save for a few dialog options, then usually I tend to gravitate more towards playing as a female. Examples that come to mind include recent Bethesda open-world RPGs, Pokemon games, Killing Floor, etc.

If a game's story revolves around playing as a female, I tend not to favor it quite as much, since it's rarely engaging in a positive way mostly through poor design.

Playing as a female character, I have no problem with intrinsically - playing as a scripted-personality female character... well, I just haven't really found a good example.

What??? Hell no! I love a good female character. Truthfully I don't really care as long as I can enjoy the game.
Sometimes I play as a female character on purpose when given a choice though, just to mix things up.

I was born human and, male so any game that gives me the chance to be anything but is a game whose offer I take up. Granted there have been a lot of instances where I chose to remain male, I'll gladly play a game with a female protagonist or, create a secondary character who is female. I haven't noticed many games at all where it changes the play-style though...it's either a choice between looking at a flat-ass for 4 - 60 hours or, looking at a slightly more round, slightly heart-shaped ass for that same general time-table.

Then there's Saint's Row 2 wherein you can be both or neither which was absolutely fantastic. I disliked how in 3 they turned that slider into a binary choice though...
