Can anyone not do those things if they try?
As far as basic visual representation, I've had moments when my eyes are closed and yet it is as if my eye-lids are transparent because I'm imagining what's in front of me that vividly, usually with a fair degree of accuracy and detail. However, that usually takes a particular mental state to pull off well (usually when I'm just the right kind of tired).
My dreams are vivid and downright artistic at times, even when my normal daily life seems drab or boring. I've realized something - it's impossible to become bored in a dream. You're either fascinated with a dream, or you're in dreamless sleep at any given moment.
My daydreams, unlike my dreams, usually don't emulate reality though - it's more like I'm watching a cartoon or playing a video game - even if I'm in it, it's a stylized representation of me, etc.
