Do you judge people by their spelling?

Yes I do. I could try to be morally superiour and claim that I don't, because I know it's terrible to do. But I do it. Not even subconciously, I catch myself thinking that somebody is an idiot purely because of a blatant disregard to spelling and grammar. I would never completely dismiss an arguement on the grounds of the spelling, but I would dismiss the person who made the arguement.

Unfortunately, I do judge people for poor grammar, even though I know I shouldn't. I definitely don't dismiss them entirely until I've read the whole post, though. If the context of the comment, and the spelling are both ridiculous, then I dismiss them as an idiot.

I'm normally pretty fine with misspellings, because that happens sometimes. But if It goes like.. "hey man super cool vid. I luv it so much will you subscribe to me?" really, really makes me question how old the person typing is.

It's not that I dismiss them has an idiot or a moron with no intellectual worth. It's more that I find it harder to focus on what they are saying, as my brain tends to begin to home in on the mistakes.
It's really more my problem then theirs.
Also, I am fully aware that for most people English is not a first language. I have a huge respect for those that learn it, usually so very well. When I was in a clan, we had members from all over Europe and I was always impressed with the level of English, both spoken and written. Especially from the Dutch members who had better command of my language then most of the members from the UK.

I judge their ability to use the language, which is often an indicator of intelligence and whatnot.
If it's really bad I assume trolling and ignore.

If they write like a teenage chav texting I buy a shotgun. It's the humane thing to do.

I'm a lot more lenient if they specify that English is a second/third language. I sure as hell can't speak their language well, if at all.

I do, but only when people type like this, "Immm lik3 s000000000000 aw3sum!" You can do that by smashing your face against the keyboard and it would make more sense.

No. Not everyone's first language is English, and to assume so would be plain arrogance on my part. No doubt if I were to post in Spanish or Italian I'd make umpteen spelling/grammar mistakes, so I feel no need to pick other people up on their lapses in English.

However, 'Lolspeak' makes me see red.

It doesn't really bother me, I admit that I am a terrible speller at times and if it wasn't for spell check I'd spell a lot of words wrong.

The occasional typo or if someone mistakes their, they're or there, no I don't. Everyone makes a mistake every so often and sometimes there is a legitimate excuse, such as dyslexia or otherwise.


When people start using "u" instead of you or words/numbers/incoherent short forms, then yes, I dismiss them entirely. I'll also completely ignore them if every other word is misspelled or something. If you're too lazy to write properly or use spellcheck, I'm too lazy to read what you write.

I find the online world to be rather pleasant... When I ignore all the leet speakers. Ones that use the shift key as much as an Asian women uses her turn signal ( Teehee, stereotype. ) and ones that use it... On every other letter. -_-

I do, even more so when its a native english speaker mistaking those simple words like they're and their. I mean even I could distinct then when I was on the third grade (and english is technically my third language), people who constantly mix those words makes me think that their complete idiots unless I know that they're native language is something else.

If they're dyslexic then I don't mind as much, but if someone is deliberately messaging me on the internet, with a keyboard, in text language, I'm going to class them as a lower level of humanity.

If someone just generally has trouble, ok. If they're just too lazy to bother or learn then it's going to annoy me.

to some degree,in the same way I judge the people I see in the street:it's always open to assessment upon getting to know them...and I expect nothing less from them,all things being fair.
occasionally a little tyop will make an appearance in my own varied posts,and I quite often play around with inventing words or slightly odd ways of saying/typing stuff,prime example would be when I throw around the word 'lawls'.
