Do you lie about yourself online?

I probably lie less online than I do IRL :p
I'm very antisocial, so when around new people I have to be all friendly, which is not me. On the internet, I can be my people-hating self without fear. Ok, ok. Not a people hater exactly, but I dont like big groups of people or meeting new people.

When I was really young and playing MMOs (EverQuest) I lied about my age a lot. I told them I was in college when I was really in middle school. I did it initially because I was a decent player and didn't want to be typecast as a "little kid". Of course problems arose when I developed real friendships with people based on lies I'd told.

I'm glad to be a grown up and able to tell the truth about myself now :)

No I don't since I don't like making lies about myself (I'm somewhat honest to a certain degrees). Sure there no way they can find out most of the time but I feel they do see through it.

I will in a joking manner, but if the topic being discussed is conducted in a serious tone, no, I don't usually lie about myself.

Nah, I'm a pretty honest person, and there's no point in trying to impress strangers I don't really give a shit about. Of course, in any hypothetical question threads, I'll respond as if I could actually make my ideal choice.

It's possible I may have done. I tended to lie about my age (I used to find that people listened to you less if you were under eighteen), and things developed from there. I guess I used to be more afraid of letting my identity out online.

Generally no, since I don't see the point. Sure people cannot validate what you say and have to take you at your word and so you can be anything, but that axe swings both ways. I can claim to be a neurosurgeon to "win" a debate, but what is the point? No one can validate it.

If someone asks specifics about my life and I am comfortable giving them, I usually will. Since people are generally spread out and posting from all over the place, I don't worry about anything coming back to me.

I've also given out my address to wannabe Internet tough guys in the past, secure in the knowledge that no one was actually going to actually go to where I lived. The second that I did, they made their excuses to not do anything about it and that was that.

Sometimes I pretend to be a guy.

Because people online can be such asses to anyone that announces they're a girl.

As I've grown older and more secure about what I am I've done it less and less during that transition into being an adult. I am still in contact with somebody I met online when I was about 12 or 13 and I eventually had to go back and talk about everything i'd said just for my own peace of mind to explain why I was insecure enough to be dishonest about this or that fact, since young boys have a special kind of stupid sometimes.

I lied about having my first girlfriend because I was afraid of being 'late to the party' so to speak, and hated so many things about myself that at the time I felt like i'd never have a relationship despite only just reaching the point where hormones were coming in to the equation. I lied about my weight at the time during puberty when I was heaviest, I lied about my age to people to be accepted, I lied about all sorts of things and none of them make me proud (as you can see, most of them are typical teenager nonsense worries about girls, appearance and achievements and proficiency at this or that subject or part of my life).

It's one of those things you look back on and face palm a little, internet being what it is it doesn't tend to hurt anybody when you move between communities every so often and the ones you do stick with don't remember most of it and are sympathetic because they watched you progress over time.

I probably still unconsciously stretch the truth about things which make me insecure. There's also that same compulsive urge to want to seem more intelligent than I am, that everybody has.

I don't lie, whether on the internet or in real life. There's no reason to. I'm not trying to impress anybody, nor do I need to. Not to mention, when I previously lied, it hurt far too many people far too harshly than I would ever intend.

I'm sincere about everything I say. And while that can not be validated on the internet, I suppose my word is all I can offer.

I lie about everything.

All day, every day.

In fact, I'm lying right now.
Don't mess with paradoxes, you'll rip a hole in the universe.
I imagined that said in a really blasé manner, like a simple passing comment, and it really made me lol.

OT: Nope, where would it get me?

I tell people about 3 times a week on average about the dangers of paradoxes, so excuse me if I seem a little blasé :p

I'm a terrible liar. I even leave one or two things out that I have done or seen because to me they seem too farfetched for anyone to believe. Things that really you'd have to have been there to see yourself. So, no.
^ This. To avoid being called a liar, I sometimes downplay how crazy some things really were, but more often than not I just don't bother posting at all - I write something up, look at it and say "Nope. That is going to get flamed to all hell" and then click away to elsewhere.

I once made an extra account on a forum so I could argue with myself. Why? Because my just posting my oppinions on something (all of them), tended to make people flame me because I was being "Inconclusive".

I often, well, let's just say stretch the truth to make my point. But I don't outright lie.

No.. I dont lie about myself... But I tell lies about you every chance i get ;)

In all seriousness. I do lie, but only in the context that I refuse to put real information about myself online for multiple reasons. Outside of keeping ones true identity concealed for the good of the internet, I see no real reason to lie online or off. Even when it hurts peoples feelings

I see no reason to lie to a bunch of strangers that have not the slightest affect on my life. I have no one to impress, much less random nobodies on the internet (No offense). I just stay honest. Lying isn't worth it, because the bullshit always comes to light. Eventually, anyway.
