Do You Like Relic Entertainment?

I own all of the Dawn of war games and expansions, I also own Company of heroes and space marines. I think they are all good games and I do like Relic. They are probably one of my favorite developers as I think they do an excellent job of 40K games. The original Dawn of war is still one of my all time favorite RTS games.

I will probably continue to like them unless something horrible happens, like EA buying them out.

I really like them. They make quality games, they support them well and they have a reasonable amount of community contact/involvement given the small size of the studio.

I really wish THQ didn't get so cut-throat with their budget though.

They have great ideas on where to take RTS genre and both CoH and DoW proved it. Sadly they never were great at the unit balance front, which hindered the possibility of their games becoming serious competitive titles. They just never seemed to be able to fit into the void after BW/WC3, and when SC2 came out they pretty much got buried.
Not to mention that DoW2 matchmaking was crippled by use of GFWL.

If not the fact that it's THQ still holding the Warhammer license I'd wish for Relic to be taken by some other company that would provide them with better financial backing.

Retribution doesn't use GWFL to let you know.

OT: I do like them overall but their games have been somewhat lacking in content lately so lets hope the next ones have a bit more bang for their buck.

If my memory isn't failing me I believe they said they are bringing base building back to DOW III, so there is that to look forward to!

Yes they did say they were and while I liked the DoW 2 style as it had a great focus on units I won't be crying about changing back.

I know. but by the time Retribution came out the multiplayer was pretty much dead. It took them too much time to really sort it out properly after already having issues back in DoW times with GameSpy.

That is fair enough I was just pointing it out in case you didn't know(I didn't see why you wouldn't but just in case) as if you liked the multiplayer a lot you would be missing out.

I like Relic! I'd like them a lot more if they hadn't trashed the Homeworld universe during Homeworld 2, where they screwed over the Bentusi, left out the Turanic Raiders and Taiidan, never mentioned what happened to the Kadeshi, and brought in a really lame villain.

I can't say I'm familiar with their non Warhammer 40K titles but for what it's worth everything I've played has been either Great or flawed but still enjoyable.

Soulstorm was made by iron lore and not made by relic.

Why would I not like them? Almost every game they've made is great, though they have not quite reached the position of 'can do no wrong', but they probably are as close as one can get.

Well, considering that I enjoyed their games far more, especially Company of Heroes, than Blizzard's own games, wich are seriously overrated, then yes, they rock. I haven't played Space Marine yet, but still their strategy titles are certainly awesome.

I enjoy Relic games. They almost always need touch-ups but it does have that kind of flawed charm that makes movies like the original Star Wars (pre-special edition) so memorable. I think if they put a bit more extra effort into it, they'd have some great games.

My friend and I were discussing how much more awesome Space Marine might have been if some of the elements of Transformers: War for Cybertron were added to it and vice versa, how single player would be much more fun if it stopped trying to tell some other character's story and let you create your own with his own personality (and your own choice of endings based on his actions/personality). I had a lot of fun with Space Marine's multiplayer from the sheer amount of customization options available so if that were implemented better into single-player that would have improved the experience for me dramatically.

Dawn Of War 2: I'll draw them into the fire of my heavy gun setup and block their exit with my melee, so I can go back with my bait and have them shoot too, while I capture other parts of the map with my scouts and I construct my heavy units.

You severely misunderstand SC2 if you think it's just deathball and 1Aing.

OT: I LOVE relic. Homeworld is literally the best game I have ever played. Cataclysm/2 weren't quite as good but still certainly worthwhile. DoW series is pretty decent but I'm not a huge fan and CoH is a solid and interesting RTS too. Only wish they made more non-40K stuff.

I really enjoy Relic's work. They make solid games that stay true to the universe it's set in ie: Warhammer 40k while still being very enjoyable. It's refreshing really.

I've never played a game by them, so I really can't comment too much on them.

Although, I knew a guy in college that is a huge Space Marine fan, so there's that.

Better? Not sure. SC2 has a lot of depth that you only can really notice after watching several pro tournaments. It's much more of "easy to get into, hard to master" game.

DoW2 on the other hand is much more complex from the start up, with heavy emphasis on territory control, slower pace and more tactical decisions throughout whole game rather than just "what build to go for".

Problem always was balance and matchmaking, before Retribution it was simply broken to the point a lot of people who wanted to establish some sort of community gave up on it. Some heroes were simply too powerful (Apothecary was stupidly strong early on, Ravener tunnels were sort of I WIN button, Mekboy/Tech turret turtling). By Retribution release there was simply not enough people playing the game to provide base for any sort of pro-scene.

The fact they removed base building also was part of cause many of original DoW scene didn't switch over. To make it worse SC2 beta started just before Chaos Rising was out and the attention moved towards Blizzard's product instead.

I used to like Relic a lot, and I would like them again if they would make more diverse games instead of just being "Games workshop; video-game division."

If they made another Homeworld, or Company of Heroes, I would love it, but it seems they are going to be stuck on milking the warhammer tit for a while yet.

There are rumors that their next game is going to be Company of Heroes 2. I really hope it is, since I loved the first one.

Ultramarines don't have personalities. That's why they're the posterboys. They're so completely bland and uninteresting that you can throw them just about anywhere. They're the Bella of 40k, existing purely for self-insertion fantasy.
