Do you recognize by name or avatar?

Personally, it's the avatar for me, especially GIFs. If you have a funny or odd GIF avatar, I'll probably remember you better.

That being said, all the pony avatars are pretty hard to distinguish from one another.

Has to be the name. Avatars are subject to change if they find something better. Names stay consistant. Which is the oppisite of real life where I remember faces but not name.

Both, but mostly by avatar. Of course, that method fails when someone changes their avatar...

But if someone changes their avatar I notice, but it confuses me.

Depends on who it is, but generally, if I can recognize the avatar, I'll know the name. The reverse is not always true, as people can much more easily and frequently switch an avatar.

Mostly avatar (although I started to remember the member names) however a few people had use the same avatar images so it's best to check the name to double check.

Avatars ? Nope. That's because plenty of avatars are quite generic. They tend to be used widely on different forums or portals by different people, soooooooooo...

Names ? Sure. Some. It's rather hard to forget something like "Angry rain of cheeseburgers".
