Do you remember when Sonic and Mario were rivals?

Do you remember when you actually had to find items to heal, instead of regenerating?

Do you remember when you got drunk and hit that pedestrian with your car and kept going?

Pepperidge Farms remembers. But Pepperidge Farms isn't gonna keep it to themselves for nothing. Maybe you buy some of those cookies, maybe this whole thing just disappears.

Do you remember standing in line FOREVER, to get in to see a small flick called Star Wars?

Do you remember when it was called Star Wars, and not Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope?

Do you remember seeing the the Star Wars trailer when it first came out? You know, the one WITHOUT John Williams music?

Do you remember when I had that nightmare about getting hunted through a department store by Big Bird from Sesame Street? Seriously, used to be a recurring thing - the other one I used to get as a very young child was a nightmare where I'd be watching Sesame Street and suddenly Big Bird would turn around and start looking at me from the tv, then growl (like a dog), then I'd wake up a very scared little kiddie.

OT: Not that long ago (was in my 20s at the time), but do you remember when computer roleplaying games were about trying to recreate the gaming experience of Pen-n-Paper rpgs? That was Fallout's stated aim (the original, not the Bethesda reboot) - it was actually going to run on the GURPS ruleset until they had a problem with licencing.

Do you remember when you ran out of batteries with your gameboy and there were no other full batteries on the house, and the closest store was closed?

Do you remember when there were no crappy games? Oh wait, there were crappy games. Only that we enjoyed them anyways, lol.

Do you remember when the Fable franchise could be taken seriously?

*I tell ya buddy, those were the good old days, those were the good old days. The years go by, but the memory stays, and those were the good old days.* Cookie for song.

A topic for all you gramps and grannies out there! Every sentence must begin with "Do you remember when.." (unless commenting someone else), and refering to gaming. Share you memories!

Do you remember when Monkey Island came on floppy-disks?
Do you remember when we still had healthmeters?

I tell you..Those were the days.
Do you remember when if a game had more than three sounds it was an impressive technical feat?

I tell you... those were the days.

Do you remember having to connect to a local BBS on a 9600 Baud modem to play multiplayer games?

Do you remember the first time you faced a Baron of Hell in Doom and had to run for your life because you were out of shotgun shells?

Do you remember the first time you got that fickle IPX working on the local lan, fired up Doom and saw "....Found a node!"

Do you remember lan parties where people would bring pcs that didn't even have NICs in them and more time was spent getting them on the network than playing games?

Or the first time in a Quake game that was hosted on the fastest PC in the room, the P166 with 20 MB of ram and being amazed that 16 people could play at once?

How about Atari 2600 marathons because there was no such thing as "Save game"

:D

Do you remember when the community on the internet was still reasonably civil? That's all gone to hell now...
LLOL. Yeah, I remember. It was just me and that other guy, getting along fine, then he went and said some silly things... about my mum.

Do you remember playing with a Joystick? And ruining them with Winter/California/Summer Games?
*snip*
I had a friend that always won those games. He could kill a joystick in under 8 hours. It was amazing.

Do you remember Amiga vs Atari?

Ninjaed on joysticks *snip*
Atari, all the way. The amiga was just a glorified console. With bonus load times. Now we have X-box.

Yes, you were.

Most importantly, do you remember the third word in the seventh line of page 53 of the Manual?
No, sir, I do not. I had a fucking list of those passwords, with associated (low quality) photocopies.
(Whomever stole my manual has Karma coming. I'm hoping Karma is wearing it's hob-nailed boots.)

Do you remember when having a 32Mb PS2 memory card made you a tech-head?

Do you remember buying food for Ultima 1 (abadasha-look, I can't remember, okay?) on an Apple IIE? In the public library? Sounds like Cluedo.
Do you remember when people played Cluedo?

Do you remember when gaming wasn't Politically Correct (almost said PC) and we could get games like Manhunt and Carmeggedon?

I tell you.. Those were the days.

Do you remember when two moving white lines, a non-moving white line, and a moving square on a black background was bleeding edge technology?

Do you remember when a "portable" computer was the size of a large briefcase?

Do you remember when getting a bug in the computer was meant literally? As in a moth or something had flown inside and shorted out a vacuum tube or two. Do you remember vacuum tubes?

Remember shareware? Remember spawn copies?
Look how greedy game companies are now.
