oblivion is currently bettert than fallout 3 cus bethesda sorta missed the fact that mod support is the only thing that keeps thier games afloat after 1 playthrough honestly would you still play oblivion again if there were no easily accessable mods?
The mod tools are coming for Fallout 3. There's no need to worry there.

I couldn't play through Oblivion without mods on the first playthrough, to be honest. With Fallout 3, I at least had 2 playthroughs before I got bored of it.

oblivion is a lot more conveinent is some areas fallout 3 is more conveinent in other areas
i like oblivion's leveling system, lockpicking system, and repair system i also like fallout 3's VATS system and creatable weapons especially the dart gun i have 1 complaint about oblvion is that fire spells travel too slow, and 1 complaint about fallout 3 is that there is rubble and debris everywhere making it very difficult to explore a ruined city
all in all it only matters how the core game plays becuase both games seem to have the same modding capability

I have the heart of an explorer trapped in the body of a pudgy mathematician. I tend to play either Oblivion or Morrowind to the exclusion of almost everything else for about a month at a time; after that, they go back onto the shelf for several months because I have to catch up on the half-dozen or so games I neglected whilst doddering about the countryside.

I installed Oblivion two days ago. The next day I was advised to install mods.. so I checked out a little guide and ended up with Fransesco's whatever-lots-of-goodies-and-good-stuff-mod (note: not actual mod name). Also, I had to put my sound acceleration down a notch, otherwise the game sounds were fooked.

I pity the console Oblivion players.. no mods... ouch. The unofficial patch for Oblivion alone fixed over 1800 bugs.

In any case, I seem to be having fun so far. Despite that they hired about.. 5 voice actors.. and copied them over every single character.. And I can live with the fact that all Orcs sound and basically look human (down to the posh British accent).

The similarities to Fallout 3 (or rather, the other way around), are ..... almost scary.

I have rolled a Dark Elf archer-class-thingy. My trusty bow and my big fat claymore keep anyone at bay. Of course, for those ethereal beings, I have my shiny destruction magic! *poof*
Fran's mod is good, but if you really want to get the best of all worlds, try FCOM.

I've played more Fallout 3 than I have Oblivion, and I bought TES4 a year ago.
Mini-Nukes > Claymores

Yes, but isn't FCOM a hassle to install? And will it still work mid-game? I've been putting quite a few hours into this game and I don't really feel like restarting..

Yeah, I played it for quite a while; it's a wonderful RPG that the Xbox 360 really needed. Hell, I ended up playing it for over 100 hours, I think. Plus I was able to unlock all of the achievements.

Oblivion is really fun...

Until it isn't.

Once you've become bored of it the game is almost impossible to get back into, but you can keep that interest for well over 40+ hours.

Royal pain in the ass, plus you'll have to roll a new character, but it is SO worth it.

All achievements in Oblivion isn't really that hard, just go through the main story and the four guild stories (and the Shivering Isles main story with that one branching part). Not to belittle you or anything as that's quite a time investment, just not nearly what's required for all the achievements in say Mass Effect or Gears of War (neither of which I've gotten all in, although I'm close with Mass Effect).

Yeah, haven't played it for a few months - got a little bored when I finished the main quest, dark brotherhood and thief quests.

This thread needs the obligatory "Post your character screenshot here!" thingy stuff.

Yahtzee was definitely right about the immersion-killing in this game. I've already said things about the awful dialogue and the 5 voices-for-everyone, but there are just.. other things.

Like today, I was on my way to Bruma on horseback. On my way, I got caught off guard by a few bandits.. Even though I had a little "oh crap! bandits!" moment, they were down pretty quickly. I looked around to see if I missed anything, and I saw a black robed woman coming up the path towards me. She hadn't seen me yet, and I thought it would be one of those necromancer bandit types. I thought to myself.. "Ha! This time, I'll be the one ambushing!". I grabbed my bow and watched how my steel arrow penetrated clean through her skull. She dropped immediately.

"Well, that was a bit easy", I thought. After checking her corpse, it turned out I shot Romana Faleria [http://oblivion.wikia.com/wiki/Romana_Faleria]. She is.. or.. was.. the lover of Tertius Favonius. [http://oblivion.wikia.com/wiki/Tertius_Favonius]. Romana had the key of his house on her body, and after checking the wiki that she was just a peasant and nobody important, I could see the possibilities of having such a key.

I traveled to Tertius' house in the Elven Gardens district of the Imperial City, and saw him walking around. He was so happy that he has Romana has his lover. He doesn't even want to look at other women, now that he has found her! .. Well, you better start looking for another one, Tertius. I sneaked into his house with my newly acquired key, looted his possessions: All his gold, all ingredients for my alchemy projects and a couple of plants for my home.

I said hi on my way back to my own house to Tertius.

The thing is.. When I got 'home' I realized that none of this actually mattered. Nobody will give a flying shit about Romana's death, and they probably will never even find out (even though she's lying on a road, north of the City, with a steel arrow through her face) about her death. Tertius won't give a flying shit about his house being looted and that someone broke in with a key to his own house.
