I always disliked oblivions stat growth system. Between every little adventure I would just sit in town casting mysticisim spells and conjuring things to grind my blades and unarmed skills.

I started playing Oblivion again recently (of course with a lot of mods) and in my opinion its better than Fallout 3. I find i can get far more immersed in Oblivion and the story for the main campaign is like...reading a good book that you can't put down. And some of the mods out now are brilliant, I have over 100 installed which seems pretty standard.

But does anyone still play Oblivion and if so are you a mod fan?
I have to disagree with you because of the fact that you dl mods and do not play vanilla Oblivion. FO3 compared to vanilla Oblivion, I find, is much more fun.

Not me. I found it shallow and mind-meltingly dull compared to what else is out there. Bethesdas unprofessionalism shines in that game with spelling mistakes, floating bushes, water that doesn't quite meet the land, and the most attrocious dialogue I have heard in a game. And why the hell do they keep hiring Wes Johnson to do all the voices?

Really? It does make sense in a way... using your skills to improve them. It did get tedious in some cases, though.

Anyway... obligatory screenshots!

I couldn't play this game without Mods now. Seriously.

Currently Oblivion has so many more mods because the G.E.C.K. hasn't come out yet. Once it does we'll have just as many mods for Fallout as we do for Oblivion.

In the meantime there are still some good mods out there already.

Check it out [http://www.fallout3nexus.com/]

floating bushes and water that doesn't meet land?

What version are you playing? I've never had that problem.

Oh, and I do play Oblivion, but in spurts.

EDIT: and the best thing to happen to Oblivion was Qarl's High-Res Texture Pack; keeps it up to date graphically and all that.

Scary Khajit, Rogue Wolf.. :p

Besides, they all have the same heavy-smokers-voice anyway. Very unattractive.

I play oblivion just for the horrible detection AI. I hit a dark elf in between the eyes with an arrow. He replies, with a totally straight face: "I better cut down on the ale, starting to see things I am." I'm aware that ale can impair judgement, but I think someone would notice if they were hit in the face with an arrow. I have countless laughs every time I play it.

I still do, but i have it on the 360 so no mods. I also thought it had more depth and stuff than fallout 3. But Fallout 3's character models and convo's were less ugly

I've thought about playing Oblivion, but I can't help but think I'll just be dissapointed. I've probably been spoiled by Fallout 3, and I'd be playing it on the 360, meaning no mods.

And the setting looks pretty blah to me. Generic, Tolkien-style fantasy. At least Morrowind was pretty unique with it's giant insects and volcanoes and stuff.

I love Oblivion. The achievements are easy to get and once you've leveled up your spells you get to have a field day with the townspeople.

I've been hooked on Oblivion since it came out, I have it for the xbox so I cant get mods but I have all the DLC (besides horse armor). I've beaten that game so many times I don't even know anymore. The best way to level to pick major skills you don't plan on using, that way you control when you level and you allways get +5 or at least +4. My level 4 right now is master of the mage and fighter guild, at the aid for Bruma part of the main quest, finished the Knights of the Nine quests, and part way threw the theives guild quests. I'm afraid im gonna run out of stuff before I can go to the Shivering Isles.

I haven't played Oblivion yet, but once I get a computer that can handle it I totally will. I just finished Morrowind, and it was tons of fun.

I read a story on GameFAQs about a guy who collected all of Oblivion's biggest weapons, piled them in the middle of the Imperial City, and then cast Frenzy on townspeople from the safety of a rooftop. I have no idea if this would work (I am far too lawful good to do such a thing), but it might make for interesting viewing.

I too still play my PC copy of Oblivion, absolutely love it...
I would never, however, compare Oblivion to Fallout 3.

Why?

I played Fallout and Fallout 2 way back when they were new and spiffy. I suspect that if Interplay was still around to make things shiny Fallout 3 would have been a much, much better game. Then again, that's likely because Interplay was gaming "By the people for the people."

Oh yeah. I've done that too. I threw a ton of super powerful gear into the center of the Imperial Market District and cast an enormous rage spell. I just stood on the sidelines and watched the citizens take out the guards one after another.
