Gender identit is a part of identity, but it doesn't automatically show up online.

I don't really care for the most part. Though I'm always annoyed by those "look at me, I 'm a girl! Tee hee!" posters.

It's simply been carried over from the old stereotype that nerds/geeks are only male. Sure it may not be true anymore, however the vast majority of people who participate in sites like this are male. That's just the way it is. To your questions:

Is your opinion of individuals in the anonymous mass of web users influenced by their gender?
Yes the same as it is IRL. Why wouldn't it be? It's the same as how talking to a person of different race can bring a different perspective to certain issues.
Do you automatically pay more attention to posts made by members of the opposite sex (or whichever gender it is you're interested in)?
Sadly yes I do. Hey, we're only human.
Do you look for methods to make them pay more attention to you?
Nay
Do you pour scorn on them for chromosomal differences?
Nay
Are you more complimentary towards them?
No more than towards males. If you say something helpful and intelligent I'll compliment you, but if you say something idiotic etc. I won't hesitate to mention that either. Doesn't matter what gender you are.

It's annoying, I always have to get by tits out -_-

But seriously to awnser your questions...
Is your opinion of individuals in the anonymous mass of web users influenced by their gender?

Yes and no, it can help to know someones gemder to see where they're coming from on certain disscusions, bust mostly it doesn't matter.

Do you automatically pay more attention to posts made by members of the opposite sex (or whichever gender it is you're interested in)?
No, almost all post I read and comment on could be done by any sex and I wouldn't know or care.

Do you look for methods to make them pay more attention to you?
Lol, no.

Do you pour scorn on them for chromosomal differences?
No.

Do you take the view that, given the anonymity of the internet, the gender of anyone you're communicating with is largely irrelevant?
It's not irrelevent, it can help to see where they're coming from.

It doesnt, but to some of the more naive people, it matters. Yes its a fun joke when people bring up "hah there are no girls on the internet", but some people do take it farther than that. To me its no surprise anymore

I like girls online. They're generally less of a douchebag compared to guys. Though I always assume everyone online is male unless proven otherwise.
Though I have to admit, I take advantage of this...different treatment back when I was playing RPGs. I found that if I made my character female, males would be more willing to party and give me items, and females aren't generally bitchy.
So yes, gender does matter. But only because we are all human.

Being a girl myself and often posting on game-related boards, I find that most posters are alright, but you get your occasional sexist idiots and people with "Hilarious" kitchen jokes.

And no, I do not treat males online any differently then I'd treat females.

Depends on the context, just like in real life. If you're gathering a party in a game, of course not, only their skills are relevant then, but if you're going to a dating site then the gender of those you seek to interact with will understandably matter to most people.

Since contexts where gender is really a relevant parameter are rare though, for the most part it doesn't matter.

You can't even catch cooties over a wi-fi network!
I'm not taking any chances!

Ive drawn a line straight down this desk and no girl is allowed to cross it! Im not getting no cooties!
Can I have your share of cooties? Just send those girls over, this direction and I'll arrange tea, coffee, pastries and some incense.
