Longer, funnier, more complex and more Glados? Why is there even a question to something like this? This is like asking, do you want more Jello? There is ALWAYS room for it. Even need a sequel. Pffft. Of course it does.

Didn't Gabe say that Portal 2 is the greatest game Valve has made to date?

Pretty sure he said that in some interview.
Read the damn OP next time, I did NOT put P2's quality in question. It happens all the time. They make a good game, then they decide the best way to make money is to brutaly slaughter it with a barrage sequels.

Portal didn't NEED a sequel per se, but that doesn't mean that the sequel won't end up being one of the best things that ever happened (And it looks like it will be, if only by introducing Wheatley to the world).

At first I thought the same. I thought that the complex nature of the puzzles, yet easy to learn mechanics, along with the brilliant writing just made it perfect, had no need for improvement, besides maybe a few more levels.

When I saw the E3 Trailers for gameplay, though. I realized just how much more creative and complex and fun to play the portal puzzles could be. That and I had faith in how the story could take place, yet not suddenly become a full narrative. That's never Valve's case, anyway.

After all, when I first saw Star Wars as a kid, I was enamored and thought that even though I was excited for more, I didn't think it could be topped; but I remember watching EmpireSB with my Dad... and yea. Things thought of as masterpieces can be outdone- definitely

Original Portal ended in a cliffhanger. Why there would be no need for sequel? And more importantly, did you even played it?

Jeez dude, I had read your comment, and I had no impression as to your say on it's quality.

I just figured there's no reason to question whether it needs to be made or not. That's why I posted a slightly sarcastic comment. Valve doesn't release bad games, and I'm pretty certain that they said they were going to continue the portal series not long after it's original release.

No need to get angry with me.

Ok, I'm going to use this little blog [http://hyperboleandahalf.blogspot.com/2010/03/pie-verus-cake-scientific-approach.html] for my point. The fact that it involves cake is only the added irony bonus.

Portal = cake.
Portal 2 = pie.

Portal was short and sweet, like cake. By how Portal 2 has been represented it will be fairly long, but awesome throughout-- like pie.

Is a sequel necessary? No, but it is more than welcome.

I'd find it hilarious at this point if they decided to add pie, but from what they've said-- they don't want another meme like "the cake is a lie" on their hands. I don't blame them.

I would of said Portal doesn't need a sequel, just a longer experience. But seeing what Valve are doing with Portal 2, I will change the answer to OH GOD YES!

To be honest, no. It's like Bioshock it didn't NEED a sequel, however unlike Bioshock this game seems like it's going to be more than just fan service.

Have you seen the trailers?

If they can make it 10x longer and better then yes there is need for a sequel!
As per GLADoS's mentality, Aperture Science is less a case of Why [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scientific_method] than Why Not [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ForScience]?
It only makes sense.

Protip: A sequel doesn't change the original in any way. If it doesn't live up, the original isn't ruined.
But it could be so awesome.
So fuck yes a sequel is needed. Besides, the original was way too short, so there's a lot they can do.

Chalk up another yes, especially because I want to see what Aperture Science has to do with HL storyline. From the end of episode 2, it was mentioned and it has got me interested.

If they can keep the new 10-hour experience at the same quality of the previous 2-hour one, then I'm all for it.

Lets be honest, games are fun until you get burned out on them.

Portal has a ways to go before people get burned out on it.

It doesn't NEED one, but if one gets made anyway, why not be happy about itOHMYGOD IT'S GONNA BE SO AWESOME!!! xD

All seriousness aside, I love portal's gameplay and story, They'll have a hard time fething either up too bad from what the trailers show :D

Then again, that'll only encourage them to try and refute my thesis :D
What this guy said.
